I just can't see them carrying three catchers in the playoffs......I think Vas is the odd man out.

SWI can play other positions besides catching, so I wouldn't count VAZ being left out of the playoffs.

Hard to remove Swi. Vez would be my second choice.

We don't need 12 pitchers.

We went with 3 catchers before Vaz got hurt and we had 12 pitchers then.

What minor league position player is screaming to make the playoff roster?

We have 12 position players now. Add Devers and Vaz and you got 14.

One could argue having 3 second basemen is less needed than 3 catchers.

No way Leon is left off. The staff would walk out on strike.

BTW, if you take Swihart and Vaz's most recent sample sizes, you see this:

Swihart in his last 71 PAs, he's at .800 (1 HR & 8 RBI)

Vazquez in his last 72 PAs, he's at .741 (3 HR & 8 RBI)

With Vaz being a much better defender, it's not a slam-dunk choice.

We have 5 days off between game 162 and the first playoff game. We play 2- sit 1- play 2 sit 1- play 1 (day off after). That's 5 games in 7 consecutive days, but also 5 games in 13 days.

11 pitchers might be more than we need.

14 position players works best, and there's room for everyone.

Loved the decision to pinch hit for Sandy Leon. Swihart played a key offensive role in the 7th and 9th innings. It is time to make him the starting catcher.

Dellin Betances -- LOL. New York sports radio is going to be all over Boone tomorrow for using Britton in the 8th and Betances in the 9th.

Judge still can't swing a bat

He will be back in three weeks. LOL.

Clint Frazier has been out a long time with a concussion. Weird stuff. The Yankees won't be able to trade Frazier in the off-season, he basically has zero trade value until he proves he can play a full season without concussion issues.

The Yankees acquired McCutchen:

2 of them and last night too

He has been getting on base and scoring runs.

He has been hitting with men on base and driving in runs.

He has been very good defensively behind the plate and everywhere he plays.

He may not be the second coming of Buster Posey but I want him on my team.

After this series 12 of the remaining 24 games are against the Yankems, the Astros, and the Guardians.

Good warmup for the playoffs because you will need to beat two of the above to get to the Series. Really don't know how to categorize this team lately. One or two explosive innings after 5 or 6 innings of nothings. Weak starts followed by excellent/terrible BP sessions. Cannot count them out of any game but make you wonder. Huge win with the NYY loss. Keep it rolling.

I still feel this division lead will dwindled to 3 games. This team needs sale back and healthy. They have a brutal September.

dmoney was the guy at the 2004 parade that beaned Pedro with the baseball

I would rather have a Dave Roberts type of guy on the playoff roster than burn two spots on Vazquez AND Leon (I'm assuming Swihart is basically a lock to make the playoff roster).

Swihart is Dave Roberts.

Amazing game which I think turned around--slightly--after Porcello gave up 3 in the 1st, 1 in the 2d, and none in the next three. Cora stopped the bleeding by keeping his starter in the game. Agree with those who say Swihart pinch hitting for Leon--successfully--and then catching is a terrific bonus effect, but me, I still would start Leon because I believe he has a good effect on the staff and that he probably helped Porcello last night.

Look, the players are the ones who wrought this mini-miracle last night after Giolito shut them out for 6 innings on 2 hits and 2 walks. But I can't help thinking Cora's season-long influence has made them capable of these comebacks--which in this case, I say again, began when Cora left Porcello in the game.

Nice to see a great comeback. This team is a lot like me in the sense that they're all fight and no quit. It's the only way to live your life.

Get your facts straight. It was 28-10.

And shouldn't all of you guys know that when you love a team, their performance really doesn't matter that much when you're exposed to them everyday? Plus, I've gotten to know a bunch of them. They're all great guys. And, I was getting paid.

All the pitching in the AL is scattered between 5 clubs. Everybody else has a few young guys working their way up to starting roles and disastrous pens. We had the 29th rated pen in baseball in the Marlins from the NL and the 24th rated pen last night in Chicago. It used to be that if you were the 24-30th rated pens in MLB you could at least pitch some....just not much. Now they can't pitch at all. They are about a step above putting an everyday player out on the mound.

Not sure exactly how this happened. You can see the younger guys trying to work their way into rotations. So they are there. But there is a gap in the talent pool. The only thing I can attribute it to is the vast amount of money that for a time was available for relief arms causing guys for a few years to left turn directly into relief roles instead of continuing to develop. So there are a bunch of guys pitching MLB now that never actually grew into starting roles. The old formula of relief arms coming out of your effort to develop starting pitching sort of went out the window for a period and the result is what we have now, teams that can't field enough starters and relief staffs that are flat awful. In our league, the result is that 5 teams really have all the pitching that matters. Things are a little better in the other league....but not much.

Crazy for what? For having fun in college?

People need to get over themselves.

Most people would argue that I'm not having fun. My dream weekend this time of year is staying in on Saturday night and watching college football while I do homework.
