This is kind of a deflection of the issue about ERod - he is not economical with his pitches.

It's kind of like saying "e mails!!!1!" Benghazzi" "What about Obumer?"

Yeah, Price is way overpaid and far less of what we thought we would be seeing. Most are disappointed with his production and concerned about what he can do for this team going forward.

E-Rod needs to improve.

Spare me talk about how the Sox win most of his starts. I know that s***. I want him to be able to pitch deeper into games so the pen never gets taxed by his short outings.

Erod needs to improve?

He just gave up 0 runs in 5-2/3 innings against a major league lineup. You and I will have to agree to disagree here.

Ok...I would like JD to improve too.

I think the issue is that people see his potential as a top of the rotation guy rather than just a #4. He's fine as a #4 (if he can stay healthy), but watching him is very frustrating because his ceiling is #2 and it seems like he'll never get there. I don't think there's anything wrong with looking at a talent that is potentially wasted since he can't keep his pitch totals down. I'm sure his bank account would be happier if he was a #2 as well.

I think much of it has to do with how poorly benni has looked in CF when given the opportunity this year....

We have a winner.

Beni has been much worse in CF than he has been in RF.

JD has been slightly less worse in RF than he has been in CF.

Mookie is Mookie. He's been better in RF, but he's the second best option that we have for a CFer.

I'd say he has pitched like a #3 this year. (fWAR 1.6)

Wasn't ERod pitching at a quicker pace in his last start? It seems to me that he was. I think if he got the sign and threw what the catcher called for, do less thinking, he might have a tendency to nibble less.

Well, we all know he has to do a lot better than 5.2 scoreless innings!

The 5.2 innings don't bother me, per se. What frustrates me is getting ahead 0-2, then rather than attacking the batter and putting him away, the next thing you know, the count is 3-2. I believe it was you who made the comparison to a young Jon Lester. Once Erod learns to pound the zone, he has the stuff to get deeper into games.

I only said 4 because slasher used that in his argument: WHAT ELSE CAN YOU EXPECT OUT OF YOUR #4???

It's not even a quality start!!!!

Fair response and It would be great to get 3 more outs out of him every start.

Price has gotten exactly 1/3 of an out more than erod per start.

For me...I’m less worried about our #4 SP that throws up zeroes into the 6th inning than I am about our $31MM “ace”...

Erod threw up zeroes because of two great plays by Bogaerts and Betts. Combined with a bad hitting Rangers team , except for Beltre, it was a very average start at best. 3-2 counts aplenty, 2 out walks and hit, leaving with 2 on base. 105 pitches for 17 outs. You are right , he is ok as a #4, just don't look for much against a good hitting team. You are also correct, Price is just an older version of the same stuff.
