Minor, lefty, vs. ERod, lefty

Minor hasn't lost a start since May and his ERA in June was 2.08. ERod was terrific last time out vs. the Nats, but the Sox own the NL. If ERod has his changeup working (and maybe his slider), the Sox have a shot, but our lineup has struggled against lefties. So here's hoping the good guys can finally pull off a win. Fenway fans need to really get into the game tonight, and a big crowd would sure help.

i love erod tonight.

Win.

He was pretty darn lovable vs. the Nats, but unfortunately I was with family that day and could not watch.

The Red Sox *feel* unstoppable right now. But yeah, a tough lefty is not exactly what the Sox are best against. E-Rod has best be sharp tonight!

With the news that Vazquez needs surgery , 6-8 weeks healing, plus a rehab stint, he will not be available until mid September. Dombroski now has a much tougher situation to sort out. He can only move Swihart if he gets a catcher in return. Maybe a bottom dwelling team like the Marlins would do that for Realmuto, along with some added prospects . Or else it is ride with Blake for better or worse through the end of the year and see what he can do with regular reps. If successful, he may have some off season trade value above his current level. If he fails, then you are looking at a trade throw-in or DFA after the season.

The orioles are dreadful. Hope we have a good series against the rangers.

At 40-51 its not like the Rangers are lighting it up either. They are one of the 7 teams in the AL playing sub-500 ball. Just Godawful baseball.

There are 15 teams - doesn't 7 sub-500 teams seem about right?

Actually no...you could have more teams packed around 500 as opposed to so many well above 500 with others well below 500. The teams below 500 this year are in the main way below 500 and the teams above are way above. The spectrum top to bottom is alarming to say the least.

An even more telling number is the range of difference between the best ERA team pitching stats and the worst ERA team pitching stats in the league. The team ERA pitching stat range is both an indicator of how good the pitching is or how bad the pitching is in the league AND how good or bad the hitting is in the league. The range is greater than it has been in the 21st Century. Usually it is packed in a tighter range of about 1 run or less, top to bottom. This year..... its closer to 1.5 runs...just a monster range top to bottom which tells you that not only is there a big difference between the teams with the best pitching and the worst pitching but a bid difference between the teams with the best hitting and the worst hitting. We see this expressed almost every night as unless we are playing one of the 3-4 other AL teams that are truly competitive with the Sox these games are laughable absurdities for the most part.

They done good, d-money, they done good.

Can't wait to hear Yankee fans take on whether Boone left CC in a batter or two too long!

I think the dirty Birds just won, so that is one of the 4 games the Yankees needed to keep pace with Boston. Thank you Buck Showalter

Screw the fat ass, you can never leave him in too long

Sox have played 6 fewer home games than Yanks despite having played several more games. Let's leave them in the dust. Now's the time.

A confident E-rod can be a wonderful thing. Vaz called a near perfect game last time out for E-rod. Hopefully Sandy was taking notes.

JD playing RF is dumb. FFS Cora.

Agree 100%. If JBJ is going to rest in Fenway it would make more sense to move Beni to CF and let JDM play left.

Cora must love Beni in left--with a lefty pitcher going too. Cannot come up with any other reason.

I suspect Cora is getting frustrated with JBJ. He has not paid attention to the one instruction Cora gave him. But in all honesty, JBJ is incapable of following that particular instruction.

Red Sox 1-6 today , lowest BA is Bogaerts .281, 3 guys over .300 . And of course our .300 utility player , Brock Holt, riding some pine.
