A road win in a NL city with JDM resting has to be of some value. The hitters certainly didn't do much on an off night for Scherzer . Maybe we load up tomorrow and don't need Kelly , Barnes or anybody else.

WIth E-rod pitching his normal 5 innings the SOX will need somebody else.

Maybe the off season work out regime by Holt worked.

Maybe he won't fall off a cliff this summer/fall.

Maybe, maybe...

Ronald Acuna with a two-run job in the top of the 11th vs the Yanks!

Great news if they can make it stand

As of tonight, the SOX have played more road games (46) than any team in the AL.The next closest is 42. The Yankems have played 38.

That can help offset the 4 games not yet played by NYY . As hsrd as it is to maintain a .667 record over a season, neither Sox nor NY are letting up much.

Since the 17-2 opening, the Sox are now 40-27 or .597 which by itself would be a 96 win pace. Yankees had a similar streak later so they remain tightly bunched but light years ahead of other teams except the Astros. ALDS and ALCS may be one for the ages. in the WC play -in game, one team's fans butts will be eating sofa cushions as their 100 win team plays a much weaker record.

The Yankees lose!

Thaaahhhhhhhhhhhh Yankeeeeeeeeeees Looooooooooozzzzzzzzzzzzz!

John Stirling would be the absolute worst next door neighbor and Susan Waldman who i know, would be #2

I don't think ESPN gives a s*** about the MLB.

Their midweek crews are okay. Eduardo Perez (in the booth tonight) does a nice job. I have always enjoyed Herschiser on the Wednesday game. Both offer decent player insights and pick up on little things.

Beni gets the golden sombrero but don't fear he will have a day off tomorrow to ponder his utter futility

He probably could use a day off. He's played in 82 of the 86 games, and at least a couple of the misses were very early in the season.

I don't know if this was Posted but, Pomeranz got shelled in Pawtucket. Yes it was, on another thread. Sorry.

We stole one tonight. How often are you going to see a pitcher drive in three runs? How often off Scherzer?

Stole is the right word. Today I’m just fine with that and the 1 GAME lead and the best record in MLB.

Well done, Porcello. And Betts.

A win, but not exactly encouraging. Lineup stunk again.

I'm concerned about this offense now .I think the All star break will help .

Um, Severino and Scherzer, 2 Cy Young front-runners, could they possibly have had anything to do with it? Holy crap guys.

I may have mentioned this before but it always amuses me that when our opponents don't score it's because our pitching was stellar but when the Sox don't score it's because our hitters suck.

I didn't realize that the game was on NESN last night until later in the game so I watched the first few innings on ESPN. It was heartening to hear those three knowledgeable baseball guys in the booth (not to be confused with The Three Monkeys of the previous night) ...anyway.... to hear them say that maybe Mike Trout ISN'T the best player in baseball right now and that honor may go to Mookie Betts.

Yeah, it may cost a king's ransom to keep him but I'll worry about that when the time comes. Right now I'm going to enjoy watching him play and help the Sox win. After all, it's never a bad idea to have the best player in baseball on your team.

Always try nesn for every game besides Fox Saturday and ESPN Sunday night. Those 2 are exclusive but the other nights you should have both feeds.

Last 30 days Tanner Roark has allowed a .324 BA to Opponents. So should not struggle with the bats tonight.

Fedde is allowing a .345 BA to Opponents last 30 days. .330 for the season.

So, if the bats struggle against these 2, there is a point that the hitters suck, in next 2 days. Although to be fair if Roark is on, he is a better Pitcher, then his numbers are showing.

Right you are. Against really good pitchers like Severino and Scherzer, the best offense is a good defense. Price failed miserably at Yankee Stadium, and Porcello was tough last night at Nationals Park, plus he got that astounding double with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 2d inning.

A win, but not exactly encouraging. Lineup stunk again, and for good measure so did the bullpen. Barnes tried to give up a run, Kelly wanted very much to give up the second dinger--before Cora took him out--and Kimbrel needed like a thousand pitches to get a four out save, maybe to signal Cora he still doesn't like doing windows. He pitches the 9th, and he usually does that pretty well, and he does not care to do anything else.

Porcello did go 6 and give up just 2 and absolutely got the hit of the game.

The lineup didn't do much, but I think you have to credit Scherzer rather than blame the hitters.

The BP was indeed shaky.

I thought it was a great game.

I never joke about Cora, but he does cause me to scratch my head a lot.

Somebody brought up the point about how Cora went out to the mound to talk to and calm Kimbrel, something Cora does not do to often. That was mostly an unnoticed move, which IMO, deserves some credit.
