We might be in for an unhealthy dose of this lineup without JD in it.

I guess this series is good news/bad news. Good part is that it is the White Sox at 20-40. Bad news is we can't field a consistent strong lineup. Hope 5-9 prove it wrong but that is not a championship team. Sale never gets much support anyway and this crew tonight isn't likely to change that trend.

Sale needs to stop the HR's and throw a 7 inning shutout, then Kelly and Kimbrel. Win the first game, sweep the series. Get well JDM, Mookie, Pedey but take your time Pom.

All of us that suffer with back ailments know that a back spasm is indicative of a problem other than the spasm itself. A back spasm is literally the muscles of your back trying to pull the vertebra off a disc or a nerve. The actual issue is more often than not a question of what is causing the vertebra to be pinching either the disc or a nerve, not the back spasm itself. A back spasm is generally an effect, not a cause.

Not surprised this has turned out to be more of an issue than the Sox had hoped. Hopefully it all calms down without requiring anything more than more rest to get the inflammation down and to get the muscles to let go. However a simple day off being enough would have been a surprise.

Benintendi LF, Holt RF, Bogaerts SS, Moreland 1B, Nunez 2B, Devers 3B, Bradley CF, Swihart DH, Leon C.

5-9 is rough.

Poor Sale is pitching without the backing of the big guns.

Sox LH hitting corp has been pretty decent lately with a couple of notable holes. Hopefully they come though tonight.

Sale's Slider has had that floaty little hump right in the middle of it this year. That is maybe the most disconcerting thing about his pitching so far this year.

Interesting theory, but I don't think anyone really knows what causes back pain (spasms). It is probably multifactorial. Regardless, I think JD has back spasms like Pom has biceps tendonitis.

Well back spasm's are muscle spasms. it does not describe anything other than a muscle in spasm. Its not a tendon or a ligament. Its a muscle. Assuming they are telling us the truth in calling it a back spasm there are not a whole lot of reasons for that. There are lots of other back ailments you can have and some of them would case a back spasm. But there just is not a whole lot of range of variable if you have a back spasm.

For one thing the Sox med staff probably has some anti-inflammatory coursing through JD's system. He might want to be out there with that. But I would not want him out there with guys throwing 90+ around his head with that.

Not going to turn this into a medical debate about low back pain...but the causes of it include the paragraph below. The most common cause is "idiopathic", ie they don't have a clue why its happening.

"A back spasm can occur after any type of strain or injury to the soft tissues—the muscles, tendons or ligaments—in the spine. Following the general treatment guidelines below and the recommendations from your doctor or physical therapist will go a long way in relieving your pain, and your back muscles should calm down in a week or so.

The muscles can spasm in response to an underlying anatomic problem

If your back spasm does not get better inal problem 1 to 2 weeks, or it comes and goes over time in the same area of your back, you may have an underlying anatomical problem in your spine. Examples of underlying issues that could cause your back to spasm include:

Facet joint osteoarthritis

Degenerative disc disease

Spinal stenosis

Pain from a herniated disc"

I had a severe one this morning and could bearly walk without pain. Breaking the rules, I took a heavy dose of Aleve, went to the softball field, stretched, warmed up and wound up pitching two games and going 4 for 5. Now in a lot less pain than this morning, but not zero pain. I am heading toward 78 years old. If I can do it why can't a professional medical staff find a way to get a player ready to play? We sure could use his bat tonight.

What are you getting at?

JD was probably due for a day off anyway and instead of catching flack from the media about why he isn't playing tonight he has a phantom injury. JMO.

Except they've pulled him out of a couple of games early recently because of the back issue.

Why hasn't Bogaerts joining the aggressive hitting?

He always looked both ways before crossing the street. He did this ad nauseum in 2017 and seems to have reverted. Loves watching the center cut strike, and then flail at the descending , going outside low breaking ball.

Except that he has already committed (according to OB) to being back in the lineup tomorrow.

He also was a good 2 strike hitter. But he isn't getting fastballs anymore. He can't lay off the s*** in the dirt.
