He should have never left. As predicted the day he was hired..,,DD has demolished our Farm. The hope was that the decimation would lead to a parade but that is still TBD.

So the scoreboard remains...Red Sox parades:

Ben = 1

DD = 0

I am 100% in agreement with this.

Sometimes better products don't pan out. In fact that's really the case with most of them. There's a really good chance the Sox deal Swihart and never miss him, much like how they don't miss Owens, Middlebrooks, or Cecchini.

This isn't always a matter of the prospect being mishandled or poorly developed. There are only 750 possible roster spots in MLB. It's a little silly to think they're are 100 players in the minors worthy of earning one every year. ...

IMO, Swihart was mishandled, but I do agree with your overall point of prospects not panning out.

At this moment is Vasquez or Leon the better defensively. I know that V lost some arm strength post-surgery, and that both catchers are better than average defensively. Gotta think one or the other will raise his averages above .210 at some point. And Pedroia will soon offer more offense at second base to make up for poor catcher hitting.

I wonder if the Mets (excess good pitching) is not a good fit for Swihart. They did have two injured catchers earlier... not sure they're back yet, tho.

I have always been 100% on the Vazquez defensive train, but I have to admit that he's been a little underwhelming so far this year. And I'm just talking about his defense. He hasn't been bad, but to date, I think Leon has outperformed him behind the plate. I think Leon is getting more out of the pitchers than Vazquez is.

As of now, I'd give Leon the nod over Vazquez, and that's not an easy thing for me to say.

My God this team is unstoppable if they give this guy a legit look ...I'm talking Legit look at Catcher .Give him the next month of Games ...it would pay off at the tune of a Worldseries title ....Ask his best friend Alex Bregman starting third base for the World Series Champs who the Redsox should be starting at Catcher....he would tell you 100 percent Blake and then the next thing he won't say .....We become the leaders in the clubhouse for. World Series .

Stop Natick. Just stop.

Natick can’t be serious.

Even the most ardent supporters of Blake Swihart are not blind to his shortcomings.

I don't think the state of catching is any worse than it's ever been. Good hitting, good defense catchers have always been a rare species.

What do you think about Catchers in the Class of 1977?

Fisk

Munson

Simmons

Carter

Boone

Stearns

Yeager

Porter

Parrish

Sundberg

Was Bench still catching? Had to look it up caught 135 games that year.

This guy is what Swihart could have been.

Of course if he had chosen college he would have been an infielder most likely.

Swihart is all but sure to be the odd man out when Pedroia comes back. The only other possibility is sending JBJ back to AAA.

That was a good crop, you're right.

Or DL Nunez, another awful player.

We have a player who is at .161/.502/36

There is no more awful a player on this team right now.

JBJ has had incredible hot streaks at the plate over his time with Boston. That's what makes his total inability at the plate now such an enigma. That is also probably why they have tried so hard and long to get him going. No one questions his defense is very good. My patience with him has run out before the FO.

This is true. However based on Cora's comments, I don't think the Sox have any intention on sending him down for Pedroia.

He should be packaged with Vaz and Pom and sent packin ....

I think Vaz needs to be traded ....Keep Sandy as the mentor and start the Swihart Era .

Now, you want to keep Sandy, based on what? His last 17 PAs?

Watch Vaz go 4 for 5, and you'll flip.

Here's a scary thought - what would Natick's posts look like if they did what he suggested and Swihart couldn't get above the Mendoza line either?

Apparently, he's seen him play a couple times and knows for a fact, he can hit way better than Vaz & Leon.

And that his fielding is comparable too because of scouting reports from 2014.

Outside chance that Nunez hits the DL.

The Rangers had interest in Red Sox utilityman Blake Swihart as recently as a week ago, per Cafardo, who notes “that avenue may still be available.” A catcher by trade, Swihart’s out of options and doesn’t seem to have a place on this year’s Red Sox, which led his agent to request a trade earlier this week. Still, Boston’s unsure about parting with the 26-year-old, Cafardo suggests. If the Sox do explore a deal, though, there are other fits besides Texas, as MLBTR’s Steve Adams pointed out Wednesday.

Swihart & Johnson for Bartolo Colon.
