I'm pretty sure that you posted this because of my comment about someone who interpreted that slide like he did perhaps has never played or taught the game. Yup, I will stand behind that in this instance. I think that there are things about the game of baseball that Harmony does not get because of a lack of fundamental knowledge of the game. I probably should have added teaching the game also. Harmony is wrong not simply because I disagree with him but let me see - how about just about everyone else. If you are really trying to say that I am one of those rare rogues who believes that to understand anything that it helps to have experienced it you are right - guilty as charged.

Pretty sure you might be talking about me here. Condescending is not something I intentionally try to do but when I am repeatedly challenged with respect to one of the few things I consider myself knowledgeable about, it is likely that I'm not backing down from someone like him.

Harmony has his opinion. You are always saying that everyone's opinion matters and that someone's opinion is not wrong just because it doesn't agree with yours.

I don't expect you to back down from your opinion. I certainly am not going to back down from my opinion. But I do think you've been rather condescending in your responses to Harmony, and in your responses to other posters in regards to Harmony, when he has been nothing but respectful in his posts.

********.

If Jacko was trolling as hard as Harmony has been with this Austin thing all of you would be calling for his ban.

I like Jacko. I might call him out on something, mostly because he's a Yankees fan who tends to have overly favorable views towards his team, but I have never and would never call for his ban.

No matter how many times you say it, your opinion of Austin's intent is just that, an opinion. There is no way you can know for sure what his intent was. Only Austin knows that.

Now if you say that you are 100% convinced that it was intentional, I can live with that. But it's still your opinion, not a fact.

Is there really even .001% of a chance his foot veered off the base by almost 2 feet by accident? He was trying to break up the DP.

Yes, I guess it's just an opinion, but to me, it looks like 100% fact.

Was he intending to injure Holt? That, I'm not sure, but he was trying to bvreak up the DP by having his foot hit Holt or cause him to not turn the play.

To me, he intentionally aimed his foot at Holt's legas that was his only way to break up the DP..

I don't disagree with your opinion at all. I really don't. I, too, am convinced that his slide was intentional.

Just semantics.

I do not think that Harmony has been respectful regarding his opinions. It is good when everyone plays nice here but sometimes stuff happens. You are certainly entitled to your opinion as am I. I'm sure that you value mine just about as much as I value yours when it comes to these types of situations.

....is there any thought that just maybe after that standing O that Kelly may turn a corner on his career ? Almost like " Joe your one of ours now " mentality ? Some people turn a corner off a hell of a lot less than 30 million die hard RedSox fans who have your back . Edited by Natick to NC

Lol. I'll let you know if he acts up. But, in general, you couldn't find a better person to talk baseballl with. Although the Yank game jersey he wears every Friday is starting to get to me.

Ya...well... a few years ago I was working with a woman who was a Yankees fan. I lost a bet to her and had to wear one of her Jeter shirt at work all day. Gaaaag.

That's not so bad if you can fool Jessica Alba...

Pitchers throw thousands of pitches. Does that mean every time they hit a batter that it was intentional?

Throwing a baseball as hard as you can 60’6” to a 17” wide box is not the same as sliding into a base. But you know that.

Posted (edited)
Of course there is 'probably' about it.

Look, I'm not trying to say it was an accident or that there was no intent. I am not disagreeing with your opinion on that. I think that his slide was intentional.

But to state that he 100% intentionally went in with spikes up is stating your opinion as a fact, which it's not. It's your opinion.

So, then we can't say for sure if Kelly intentionally hit Austin.

Edit: But the league was certain enough about Kelly's intent that they leveled a 6 game suspension.

I like Harmony too. I disagree with him, but he is entitled to his opinion, which he is arguing and supporting respectfully.

There is no reason for the condescension being directed at him by a couple of posters.

Sure there is. He is trolling this issue like a major douche bag. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that. Of course, we can't know it for sure.

Yup. This is the thinking of the vast majority of people I see and speak with.

Kelly is in a way, the Anti-Price.

It took a brass set for skinny Kelly to tell Austin to come get him if he wanted a piece of him. He is giving away a good 30 lbs to Austin.

His trolling is not random at all!

I'll tell you my friend I almost jumped off my sofa when this happened. Austin walked into an ambush. Kelly knew that he could handle that punk-ass but the punk-ass was too stupid to see that he was getting in over his head. Kelly may look skinny but I have no doubt that he knows how to hurt someone. Not too many would f*** with Kareem Abdul Jabbar as I recall.

Yup. Kelly has a new fan here. I now view the Lackey trade as something a little better than a disaster.

Beyond all this talk what is really cool is that it does seem that this team has an attitude and what Kelly did reinforces the idea that no one should f*** with the Sox.

The Yankees outsize the Red Sox badly in height and tonnage, but our kids did not blink or back down. It was impressive.

Kelly just isn't the kind of guy you screw with in the bar.

That incident made me laugh because all I could think of was Machado's slide and Pdroaia's reaction to it. i don't think that we will see another Pedroia "It wasn't me" situation again. He can help us defensively I think but I just want him to be quiet.

Big difference from last year's incident though. This year they did it right. Last year they didn't do it right at all.

I didn't state it clearly but that is what I meant. In many ways, this is a team that I am enjoying much more than last years version in spite of last years 93 wins.

Nope, even though I never played the game, or taught, or any of the other verbs required to have an opinion, a slide would be a more easily repeatable action that throwing a pitch.
