Yankees fans may be pissed at their manager, but I'm sympathetic. Those 4 runs all came with two outs and fairly suddenly. No time to warm someone up, especially with a 6 run lead and a pretty darn good pitcher on the mound and a struggling JD coming up.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. JD's performance during the first week of the season combined with the large lead might have led a manager to hesitate at warming someone up. On the other hand, loading the bases against a team that has started the season 9-1 should have been a red flag anyways. I still think this is on Boone.

Meh. Tanaka had 2 outs and an 8-2 lead when the grand slam occurred. Absolutely not time to warm someone else. Plus it was Tanaka on the mound with struggling JD coming to the plate.

It has a lot to do with how he looked. He doesn't have his usual velocity and he doesn't have his slider. He uses his slider like most pitchers us their fastball. Once his strike pitch was junked, he was very hittable.

Tanaka also gave up solid singles to JBJ and Holt, a bullet to Mookie, and struggled to throw strikes to Devers and Hanley, wasn't like it came out of nowhere. I would've had someone warming after Mookie ripped that double and he allowed hits to two guys really struggling (Holt/JBJ).

As for Cora, I have to wonder why neither Johnson nor Velazquez has been used. Both should be good long relievers and only one can start against the Orioles.
