What a disaster of an inning. Kelly pitched like a pussy.

Looked like he struck out Keirmier to me. That would’ve been out two. Umpire changed the strike zone. Archer & Sale were getting those.

Cora was an infielder, has no experience deciding whether to pull a pitcher, and literally owns this bullpen because he decided who to keep and in what order to use them.

It's still mostly on Kelly, but Cora cannot escape some responsibility.

I agree completely. Kelly s*** the bed, but Cora wasn't very good either managing the pen.

Joe Kelly and Matt are both Gas cans ....I am not feeling good about this bullpen now that smith is trash

It was one game. Kelly was a very good reliever last year.

This game a continuation of last year: Nunez hits and nobody else does (except for Bogarts). Nunez literally carried this team through much of the last part of the season.

And another lost great performance for Sale... also as in several games last year. boo boo

Sox should fire Cora immediately and recognize this guy simply is not ready to manage an MLB team.

Well, not quite. But I think it's OK to say that he didn't help much today. I just get mad when the bullpen, aided by a passive manager, destroyed a very good start by Chris Sale in the first game of the year.

The Rays scored 6 runs on six hits, none of them dingers.

It's a long season, and showing serial distrust of your relievers on Day 1 is a terrible idea. The pitchers sucked today - but it's also not the time to hit the eject button either. 161-1 is still a good season.

BTW: What is the longest streak for a team having an inside-the-park homerun in a game. I guess it's more than the Sox current streak - but it can't be that often.

We can all debate about Cora's managerial decisions, and etc. But point is, we should never lose a game where our starter allows 1 hit and 0 runs, and were up by 4 in the 8th. It is pathetic.

Good and bad in this game.

The good:

1 Bogaerts is hitting

2. Nunez is hitting

3. Dever also hit well

4. Sale pitched well and so did Barnes

The bad:

1. Obvious total lack of control by Kelly and Smith

2. Two base running issues

3. No errors but the infield can lead to fielding adventures.

Won't throw dirt on any hitters with only one game in the books. Did notice hitters were more aggressive than last year.

In all seriousness...Mookie WTF ???? You can't get picked off there .

I realize Sale isn't going 35-0 but we HAVE to win his starts when he pitches well. See, it sounds silly, but that's kinda the point of having an ace pitcher.

If I'm Cora I call Joe and Carson in the office along with Sale and shut the door .

Oh I think today is the "crack a joke, and get back on the horse"

About right. The biggest fault is with Kelly. But, boy, I hate to lose the first game like this. And, in defense of Cora, let's not forget that Smith gave up the 3 run triple as well as a single and a walk. I don't think I would have brought Kimbrel in to pitch in the 8th. Not in the first game of the season.

I have to say this again. Forget what Cora did or didn't do. This one is all on Kelly and Smith. I truly believe the manager cannot be expected to compensate for monumental ineptitude.
