Sprained ankle according to the reports.

Is it just me or do baseball players appear fragile as glass? That collision is called 2nd and 8 in the NFL and both players go back to the huddle, in baseball they both leave the game.

Coming out of All-Star Break Yanks play 29 out of next 40 games against Teams under .500

They struggles against them, especially on the road when they don't get a 340 foot homers 3 times a game.

Great!

They do worse vs the bad teams.

Might have a little to do with Helmets and pads, but your point is well taken.

So I take it you give them the advantage in the Play-offs, since all the teams are good? What worries me is just a 1 game Play-off in WC. Anything happens in one game.

Also Yanks have a pretty tough Sept. West Coast trip, and more teams with good records.

Pretty funny Moon.....good point though

Too lazy to look it up....

Q for the board....how long do we have to retain a draftee before we can trade them? A year?

90 days after the World Series. Now they could be included in a trade right now as a "Player to be Named Later"

Just when E Rod seems to be coming around in terms of being efficient, this s*** happens. He can't catch a break. I had him moving up to #2 spot ahead of Porcello and Price. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

Houston made a brilliant move last year acquiring J Verlander. One can always dream....

Where I was going was do our 1st two or three picks have any trade value today? What level player can we get for them? A mediocre reliever? A journeyman 2B? Or does that create too much negativity for future draftees?

Lets look at the records at the end of the year.

1. Probably some.

2. Negativity - not much. Most of the picks (especially high schoolers) are a few years away from the major league radar. It is more important to be in the show in any capacity.

What's changed for Mookie this year? Is it the JD Martinez factor? New approach? .362 is just sick. Despite missing several games, he's 2nd in majors in runs scored. He has more runs than games played.

Who was the ******* that suggested Harper was almost as good? Never mind, that was me.

There is a report that said he hurt his knee. I will attempt to go back and find the link.

Martinez might have helped some. You read about the managerial change (and why Dombrowski did it) and that might have helped.

But the simple answer - Betts is 25 years old, and young guys get better. Betts was 2nd in the MVP as recently as 2016. Heck, he had a downballot MVP caliber year LAST SEASON. (offensively he was still pretty good and had the best defensive season in the league by a solid margin) Really there is not that much magic to Betts, Bogaerts or Benintendi having such wonderful seasons. It's a part of growing up - and in Bogaerts case, being able to properly grip a baseball bat.

I can't be sure but is suspect healthy hands and wrists may play into his numbers being up from last year.

He got whacked a couple of times early last season from what I recall.

And as good as Mookie is I do think he continues to become an even better hitter.

Better health for both him and Bogey might be the major reason.

When it comes to the inept Red Sox medical staff I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a knee, ankle, and wrist....

The news on E-Rod sounds a little grim. He's going to be in a boot for two weeks, then they'll re-evaluate.

Not good at all

All because Swihart was for some reason playing 1B, and doesn't know how to field grounders..
Swihart has gone from not having a role on this team to being a menace -- getting doubled off first base like an amateur after the LFer decoyed him and killing one of our starting pitchers with his inadequacy playing first base.

Swihart didn't pencil himself in at first. And Swi isn't the first player to throw behind a pitcher covering first. He also made a couple good plays and has been hitting.

Who's going to be the second catcher?

The running gaffe was pure comedy though.

We do have Oscar Hernandez down in Pawtucket until Vazquez is ready!

i don’t blame Swihart. I blame Management that has engaged in contortions to retain this very mediocre talent. It has hurt the roster as with today’s short benches, you can’t afford to keep a guy without a role. He didn’t look bad behind the plate in his last start, and I hope that continues to hold true when the opposition starts to force him to make throws and other plays.

He's like the backups backup, with potential. And looks like we needed a third catcher. That is a role right there.

Don't catch me catching you blaming Swi for E-Rods ankle either.
