You apparently haven’t been around the past few years. This is my first real optimistic season at the outset in years.

If everyone stays healthy, I think the Yankees roster is built with a better offense, much better bullpen and a deeper rotation. If everyone doesn’t stay healthy, then we have both big league veteran depth and top prospect depth waiting. What’s your depth? Let’s look

C- currently Vazquez is the starter. Leon the backup. Swihart might play in.

1B- Moreland and Hanley to platoon. Travis behind them

2B- Nunez to start. Pedroia should return soon. Behind them is a conglomerate of suck

SS- Bogaerts to start. Nunez can play but only after Pedey returns and is a massive defensive minus. Marrero, Lin and Holt can play but offer nothing offensively

3B- Devers to start, but the same cavalcade of misfits behind him

OF- JD can run out there yet he has been the worst OFer in baseball the past few seasons and gets hurt if you look at him cross eyed. If you choose to keep JD as is (very part time OFer) you’re looking at Holt covering LF and Beni moving to cover CF or RF. If Beni is hurt, Holt to LF.

On the mound, you’re depth is already tested.

Top 5 should be good

Sale

Price

Pom

Porcello

ERod

Beyond them,

Wright hasn’t been good aside from a half season in 2016

Johnson has been AAAA level for awhile

Velasquez is similar to Johnson but worse

Beeks? Bleh!

No real top prospects ready to step in. Retreads ready to pitch. One sided players backing up. Nunez helped your versatility but that’s assuming Pedey comes back strong. If injuries strike both sides, we’ve got far more depth to handle it.

I think I'm one of the only Sox fans here who will concede that the Yanks should be the favorite on paper.

I think we need more X factors to go our way than you do.

It does happen, though.

Man oh man are we ever in for it. Kind of looks like we really stink huh - according to your very careful assessment. Oh well, I just don't think that we are going to be as bad as you want people here to believe. Let the games begin I say.

That’s not what I’m saying. If you told me your rotation will be fully healthy by May 1 and stay healthy thereafter, I’d say your team has a legit shot to be the AL East champs. Your team will make the playoffs.

I understand exactly what you are saying. I think that you understand that the Sox will compete. I just don't agree with your gloomy assessment of all of the but ifs. I think much of what you are saying could be said about any number of ml teams. I'm pretty sure that in your mind I am not seeing the big picture clearly. I think that I am just not from your lens. I would certainly say that the Yanks are small favorites based on what they did during the off season. Sox in my estimation are very close and I do think that we have more depth than you and some others think we have. I'll say it again - Let the games begin.

Every team is one or two injuries away from falling off a cliff (Sorry about this expression, I know some people in the forum is very sensitive with the word "cliff". lol), Jack's post is more about depth than potential. For me the thing that I worry the most is what some people call "the sophomore slump", but is part of life in every young player.

Sophomore slump is a concern, except I think we’ve already seen a bit of adversity for both Judge and Sevy. Not worried about Sanchez at all except on the defensive side. Judge already sucked once. Sevy was terrible for an entire season.

I'm not worried at all about the Sanchino, he's the safest bet of all the young guys. Severino clicked last year, but his delivery has me worried, he's strong as an ox but you never know with the injuries. Judge is the hardest for me to predict, he's a smart and centered guy who has overcome every challenge he has faced so far, but the league will keep making adjustments on him, I hope he can adjust fast enough to keep a similar performance. Bird is in a "make or break" season, let's see if he can stay healthy for a full season, for him is not a matter of talent, if he's healthy he will produce, maybe the best pure hitter in our lineup.

Stanton is not in the same pool of the rest of the guys but he's streaky as hell, if he's on, he might hit 10-15 HR in a month, if not he can suck really bad and not even get a good OBP; he's the wildcard in our lineup, if he performs, he will give the young guys the protection they need, they will try to pitch around him, it will be interesting how Boone will arrange the lineup. Today is nice test, he's placing Judge in the leadoff spot.

I would agree with you: the Yankees have not been a great team over the last several years, and now they have reloaded and should be the favorites to win at least the ALE. That said I think that if our SP performs up to their capabilities we should be right in the chase until the very end.

Look at some Sox numbers over these player's first 3-4 years...

OPS

Betts: .812-.820-.897- .803

Bogey: .660-.776-.802-.746

JBJ: .531- .832- .835- .726

(All three showed a significant drop off after three straight improving seasons. It's more like "Senior slump".)

Pedey:.823- .869- .819

Beni: .835- .776 (1st season was only 118 PAs)

The loss of Papi from the lineup was huge. The kids for the sox hadn’t had to carry the load on their own. The Yanks kids carried the load on their own last yr. We have only added to it

We have yet to see what effect losing Girardi has on the Yankees.

I'm predicting that Aaron Boone is going to be hanged in effigy outside Yankee Stadium the first time the Yankees have a 5 game losing streak.

Aaron Boone calls Judge "Judgey" and Wade "Wader". I already want him gone.

Boone maybe the biggest Tool besides Arod to ever don that jumpsuit.zTruth is the guys a clown show he took wake deep in A pivotal playoff game in extras ...why ???? Ohh it was a grooved 70 mph pitch that hung ....I could have hit a triple there ...That clown will rub that team the wrong way guaranteed .Once they collapse by mid June it will be an absolute poo show .

I'm kind of liking me some Brian Johnson right about now. Come on Jackman let me hear how spring training means nothing or maybe that he just ain't agonna get it done. Like I said, if he is healthy and in a good place we all might be surprised. He knows how to pitch.

He was impressive today, wasn't he. I think he is a very good choice for a depth pitcher. With Wright out for 15 games he is going to have his chance it seems. Perhaps he will win Wright's job.....I was never much of a fan of Wright anyway.

As far as Jacko's post above, I disagree that ST means nothing. It means nothing in the standings, to be sure, but guys who have excelled in ST have won jobs there.

Well, it is ST and it does mean nothing, so there’s that

like I have continually explained to you - we will soon know . let the games begin. now that should be a concept that is easy to understand.

Well I must say it'd be pretty sweet if Boone turns out to be a doofus as a manager.

You seemed to be pretty excited about Judge's spring training numbers - so which is it?

The Yanks had Girardi’s back after his gaffe in Cleveland, but numerous reports around the time they let him go showed a significant rift in the locker room with him. Apparently Girardi was just a grinder all the time and it wore on the young team. This is a new generation of players and having some fun is a big thing to these guys. Boone seems like more of a relaxed guy. It could be an unmitigated disaster. It could be just what the doctor ordered. We don’t know. Boone is a smart baseball guy, though, with a pedigree unmatched in terms of a baseball family/upbringing.

Being manager of the Yankees or the Red Sox is a very tough gig.

Especially since the Skanks got rid of a pretty good manager to bring this guy in.

I think he is already a boob. I also think that he can make the leap to doofus in short order.

Where do you get such nonsense? You must grow it on a roof-top garden or something.

Bird reinjured his surgically repaired foot. I anticipate he will miss some time, albeit the amount he misses is not certain at this point. My anticipation is that Tyler Wade with platoon with Walker and Walker will also platoon with Austin at 1b.

VS Righties

2B- Wade

1B- Walker

VS Lefties

2B- Walker

1B- Austin
