We can deal with having a healthy starting 5 as of right now. You're a David Price elbow twinge away from having your rotation completely collapse

That's what people said last year.

Red Sox fans don't see it like that. Or at least I don't.

And the sox were clearly ahead of the pack until the Yankees retooled. Guys, you have a full season of JDM and maybe Eduardo Nunez ahead of you. Provided good health, you may see a full season of David Price and Carson Smith. We have full seasons of Sonny Gray, Giancarlo Stanton, Tommy Kahnle, and David Robertson ahead of us plus have swapped in Drury and Walker for Castro and Headley while also starting the year with Bird at full health. A third of our roster has improved and is healthy. Big difference

I love your optimism for your team. Believe it or not we, guess I should I, feel the same about our team.

As you should. We will both make the playoffs. The battle for the ALE will be rough. We both may win 95 plus games. I love it. #rivalryisback

By the way, I’ve never understood the hash tag. But if it’s gonna he used, this is the way to do it

I think that you are right. The health of the starting pitching will have a great deal to do with each team's success. I'm not quite as detailed as some are here but the way I see it is this - most people won't argue that the Yankees lineup from top to bottom looks freakishly good. Ours isn't bad probably right behind them. As far as the starting pitching goes, if everybody stays healthy, I really think that the Red Sox will have as good of a starting core as just about anybody in the game. Two aces at the top does not hurt.

Good luck - it is going to be a fun ride.

Oh s***, watch out for Sonny Gray!!! The most intriguing 4th starter in the league!

Just as a reminder, his numbers got significantly worse after transitioning to the AL East where real teams like the Boston Red Sox play. I'd expect that to continue going forward.

Yanks won't win 90 games this year. Book it.

Aren’t you special

I'm not, but this Red Sox team sure is. It's not every season that you can go BACK TO BACK TO BACK.

Our lineup beats him like a drum.

mvp is referring to Pedroia's actual salary this year (not his AAV).

Yes, but how do you get rid of it all? Nobody is going to trade for Pedey and pay his full salary. DFA'ing him does not take us off the hooks, so once again, HOW?

Yes, his ERA went up to 3.72 and his WHIP up to 1.26 with the Yankees, otherwise known as phenomenal #3 or #4 starter numbers

We retooled, too, in case you didn't notice.

We added JD.

We, essentailly, added Smith and Thornburg.

We will get more PAs from Devers, Nunez and others and none or way less from

.644 Leon (301)

.709 Young (276)

.593 Marrero (188)

.548 Holt (164)

.558 Rutledge (118)

.622 Pablo (108 PAs)

.595 Davis (38)

Yes, we'll have a much better chance with Price staying healthy, but I'm curious why you have more faith in Gray being healthy than Price.

Because Price has an actual tear in his elbow

I'm a fan of Sonny Gray, but he's a huge question mark.

His FIP went from 3.25 to 4.87 with NYY. (His career with OAK was 3.56)

His HR/9 went from 0.9 to1.5.

Price is a question mark, granted, but Gray is a much larger one.

And, what about the 56 year old CC? He had 3 seasons in a row over 4.70 before the last two good years. I guess there's no chance, in your mind, he goes south this year in a major way.

Tanaka?

Your two young guys, Severino and Montgomery, looked really good, and I guess young starters like them never have setbacks or bumps in the road.

All is rosy in NY this year. Nothing can go wrong.

Every poster I read knows we have a ton of "ifs" to make this season special.

We are not even a top 3 favorite to win it all.

I bet jackson thinks the Yanks are top 3.

Gray has been an ace in this league. He was an ace prior to getting hurt in 2016. He was an ace on his return to Oakland. In his time with NYY, he kept his ERA down but had trouble with the homerun ball. I anticipate won't continue as he hasn't been a big HR guy prior to getting hurt in 2016. I have said before that Gray is my dark horse to be either our best or 2nd best starter. He has the stuff to go 200IP. He is in his prime. He is healthy. CC, who knows. 2 yrs in a row he posted sub 4ERAs. He has adapted to his stuff and in kind, his fastball rebounded a bit. Would I be entirely surprised if he throws up a 5+ ERA and is out of the rotation come June, absolutely not. Would I be surprised if he throws up a 3.70ERA in 150IP in 2018, not at all. He's a wild card with the ability to get big league hitters out. But right now, he is healthy. Tanaka is similar to Gray. He's been an ace, he is in his prime and he is healthy. He was nails the second half of 2017 and was lights out in the post season. Also, he is healthy too. I acknowledge the question marks, but I also acknowledge that 4 of our starters are under 30, in their primes and healthy. For you guys, you have two sub 30 pitchers who are currently healthy, and one is coming off an abysmal season (Porcello).

Why is it okay to say Gray and Tanaka were previous aces and leave it at that, but we can't say the same for Porcello & Pom?

We have 4 guys who have pitched like aces for extended times: Sale, Price, Porcello and Pom with ERod being a highly promising pitcher who may finally be over his knee issues.

Speak for yourself Tonto. I have no concern at all about Price's elbow. As much as Jacksonian wants us all to be crapping our pants worrying about it, I'm not. Aint going to happen. Two aces at the top. There is no way the Yankees even really come close to our starting pitchers. I don't buy the ifs factor any more than I would for any team. They all have ifs. This team has got it and the pedal goes to the metal as far as I am concerned.

I mean this as no disrespect it's actually a compliment to CC ....the only and I mean only pitcher I hate see pitch is CC ....he steps up big time against us ....Sonny Gray although talented will get shelled in a full year of AL east ...He's tiny he's had major issues with staying healthy recently ...and his move to our division will not end well .That being said I hope we face sonny a lot .
