this really shouldnt be a surprise. Jeter is a baby bitch who always got a pass from the NY and national media. an early indication was when he threw a tantrum and refused to move off of SS for the greatest SS to ever play the game.....

I wouldn't call A-Rod the greatest SS to ever play the game since we are basically talking about an admitted PED user, drug addict, a guy whose numbers were significantly inflated due to cheating. There is speculation that A-Rod may have started juicing in high school. To be sure, we know that A-Rod was juicing with the Rangers (that he admits).

But, yeah, I don't have a high opinion of Jeter. Sure, he is a first ballot Hall of Famer, a great player, but he was always stupid -- as dumb as a rock. Jeter never had anything to say, never had the brains to say anything interesting or intelligent. I'm pretty convinced Jeter will run the Marlins into the ground. Thus, he is no John Elway, a HOF player who brought his team to the pinnacle of success as a front office executive.

So... more like Isiah Thomas than Elway?

He already has a contract that guarantees him $295 million over the next 10 years. Those pockets are lined and stuffed.

As for being a houselhold name, he just won MVP. I think that got him some fairly decent PR...

Okay now let's just say that Stanton has no further interest in money ( people feel that way all of the time, right? ).

Let's say that his decision comes down to the livability and status a location can offer.

Why in the world would Stanton chose to live in a mid-western s*** hole like St. Louis when he could live in a world class city?

Oh, I see. Stanton is the stupidest f*** in the world.

So what is it that makes Boston a "world class city"? Or Chicago? I'm interested in knowing, having lived in both.

St. Louis, while not my favorite city, is definitely a baseball town with some of the friendliest fans in the game. And they have an excellent front office that always keeps them competitive. While I have been saying Stanton will head for LA at first chance, he wouldn't be the first player to enjoy being a Cardinal.

Not sure why you brought up money. Regardless of where Stanton plays, he still gets $295mill over 10 years, which was the point. It turns out those dollars are legal tender in every city.

Would he be more marketable in NY? Or LA? I'm not as sure as you. Right now it seems like MLBs most marketable player plays in Washington. The best player in MLB plays just outside of LA and does far fewer national commercials...

Reportedly, the Giants offered Joe Panik, Tyler Beede and Chris Shaw for Stanton and Dee Gordon. Beede did struggle in the PCL, but every pitcher struggles in the PCL.

Gordon is not a salary dump. I'm wondering what the offer would be without him.

Also, is any money going to SF in this scenario?

The report that said Stanton would reject a trade to St. Louis also said the same of Boston...just saying.

I take all of this with a grain of salt until we know something more concrete.

The Stanton and Otani sagas need to end and end quickly.

While usually very little happens befre Thanksgiving, in most seasons at least somethingdoes. Yesterday the big splash news on MLBTR was that some guy named Josh Ravin was traded to the Braves. Talk about click bait!!

Maybe tomorrow they can discuss in-depth details about what JD Martinez has for breakfast or we can get further insight into Jake Arrieta's favorite movies...

LOL. I forgot about I.Thomas. It is virtually impossible to be worse than I.Thomas but I will say that Jeter will be closer to I.Thomas than J.Elway.

I'll predict that the Marlins owner, the guy with the controlling share of the organization, will dump Jeter in a few years when he realizes Jeter doesn't know what he is doing. This will be fun to watch. I feel bad for Marlins fans, though.

The Braves punishment probably had something to do with the hold up as well,

Interesting that the orioles traded international bonus money for a double a pitcher.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, Giancarlo Stanton's representatives have provided the Marlins with a list of teams where he'd accept a trade.

Nothing is confirmed, but Morosi hears that some teams pursuing Stanton believe that the Dodgers are his first choice and he won't accept a trade anywhere until there's some clarity with the situation. Of course, Stanton is from the Los Angeles area. It remains to be seen if the enthusiasm is mutual here, as the Dodgers are already paying the luxury tax. Meanwhile, Stanton has 10 years and $295 million remaining on his contract. Most expect the Marlins will have to pay down some of the contract, but they might not mind doing that with the Dodgers, who have a strong farm system. The Giants and Cardinals have been mentioned most prominently among interested clubs in the early part of the Hot Stove. Nov 27 - 1:41 PM

@ScottLauber

From last week: "Less than 50-50" that Giancarlo Stanton approves trade to #RedSox as long as West Coast options remain. Still, Sox must remain engaged.

Stanton thinks you'd look better in Dodger Blue.

Giancarlo Stanton Trade Rumors: Monday

By Steve Adams | November 27, 2017 at 2:49pm CDT

The Giancarlo Stanton trade saga has been one of the top storylines of the offseason, and there’s no end in sight at the time being. To date, the Cardinals and Giants have reportedly submitted formal offers, while the Dodgers and Red Sox have also been linked to the slugger.

We’ll track today’s developments on the Stanton front right here:

ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports that other clubs have gotten the sense that there’ll be resolution on the Stanton talks one way or another by the time the Winter Meetings kick off on Dec. 10. That is to say, the Marlins will either have traded him by that point or interested parties will have exhausted their patience and begun to explore other possibilities on the trade and free-agent markets. Crasnick also notes that while the Cardinals and Giants are the most oft-cited suitors, there are other clubs that are in active pursuit of Stanton.

Where things stand now, unless something changes, source says Red Sox are an "extreme long shot" for Giancarlo Stanton for a variety of reasons, starting with asking price.

As much as I love Stanton for the Sox, I think we'll see JD Martinez. However, Boras has a long track record of dragging p utouts these negotiations, so JD might not sign so early.

I do prefer Santana, but I am warming up to Martinez. As long as it isn't Hosmer...

Well, Hosmer or More(-of-the-same-)land.

Dave ain't done. If it becomes just about $, I really don't care what he cherry picks. The money is there. You budgetarians might not think so and you might fret and fume about not being able to resign this guy or that guy and I say good for you. If it is just about taking on his contract dollars, then the Sox are still in the game because if JH wants him badly enough, he can afford him.

Plus - he can sign any of our current players that deserve to be reupped. It is not about the money but I bet he is happy knowing that so many of his Talksox followers care so much about he he spends it.

Even budget hawks think DD can spend close to $40M (per year) this winter.

Or Duda. Or Bruce.

And I'd only sign Alonso if I actually thought it would help get Machado next year...

So, your choice is Santana?

If we sign JD without losing an OF'er, is there room for Duda?

It's not that I care how much they spend. I know the money isn't unlimited and therefore don't want it spent foolishly or on short term fixes that require long term commitments.

There is always room for Duda. As long as it's in another clubhouse.

I do like Santana as the better overall player than Martinez. But Martinez is the better fit for Fenway, possibly better than Stanton. The position thing is the biggest drawback...

LOL. I Know he has issues, but his contract is projected to be pretty low and short.

He's not the centerpiece to a winter of moves.

Pretty big drawback, but he does fill the clean-up hole a lot better than Santana.

I think Martinez might be better suited for Fenway than Stanton.

Stanton is like a better version of vintage Matt Kemp at the plate. He hits the ball VERY HARD and sometimes it simply doesn't have any lift. While I don't think Stanton would struggle at Fenway, I do think he'd hit a lot of wall ball singles that would carry out of other parks.

Martinez, on the other hand, can get some lift on his flyballs...
