I couldn’t be prouder of this team. We took a Houston team that everyone said was vastly superior than us to the limit and effectively home field was the only determinant. We outscored them 22-20 in the series and even beat one of our long time nemeses in the process. I honestly don’t think I’ve enjoyed a season like this in decades. This was the year of low expectations and we end up a game away from the World Series. Hats off to Houston for winning home field and getting back up after the Bronx knocked them down. I hope they win it all.

The future is incredibly bright in the Bronx. This team arrived early and now boasts a formidable lineup of young stars that would make the best teams in baseball jealous. We have a bullpen that will be back for another season of dominance. We have a rotation that is topped with two really good pitchers and a lot of young depth. We are in a good spot, lux tax or no

You should be proud.

Too bad it's one and done!

Third place for your boys next season. Book it.

Expecting Judge, Bird, Sanchez, et al to perform just as well next season as they did this season is a lot like expecting that JBJ, Mookie, and Bogaerts would repeat their awesome 2016 season this year again. In short...very unlikely. The Yankees will be good, but banking on going to the brink of the World Series again is aiming a little high, especially with Tanaka being shaky and CC Sabathia ready to implode at a moment's notice. I would be willing to bet that if Sabathia is on the Yankees next season, he won't be by the end of it. The Yankees have a good young core moving forward, but leave a little room for doubt and, you know, reason. Anyone reading your posts would think you expect a 125-win season next year, and I know you're not the kind of guy who wears rose colored glasses that thick.

Youk, I’ll put up my Hot Stove later. Resting on our laurels isn’t going to happen. That being said, there’s one big difference between the offenses of NYY of 2017 and the sox of 2016. You guys lost your big bopper to retirement and never replaced him leaving a gaping hole that your kids couldn’t replace. As it stands right now, our only projected losses from our lineup are our #8 hitter and our backup DH who started one game in the post season. Our “addition” that you aren’t really seeing in your post is a full season from Bird. You saw in 2015 and in the last few weeks of 2017 what a healthy Bird can do to this lineup. I don’t expect them to stand pat, but the makings of a young, perennially powerful lineup are there. I don’t expect Judge to repeat his 52 HR performance, but one thing he did show is that he can make adjustments on the fly in the post season against the best of the best which will benefit him incredibly well into his sophomore season. We lost a month of Sanchez and 5 months of Bird. Adding those back in should be able to manage the changes I expect to see out of Judge (less power, but I expect him to make better contact and potentially hit for a higher average). For Tanaka, he spent a month and a half lost in the wilderness where he was flying open and couldnt locate his splitter. He was nails outside of that 6 week mark and cemented himself as a major bounce back candidate for next year by being ridiculous in his 3 playoff starts. His bounce back makes his opt out not such a moot point which could be good or bad for us depending on what we use his money for. One other thing that separates the 16 sox and the 17 Yankees is that we also have one of the best farms in baseball with multiple big league ready players. After 16 and the trade for Sale, you were left with Devers and nothing else really. Effectively, I think there’s work to be done, but the building blocks of an incredibly dangerous lineup are still there. The building blocks of a solid rotation with or without Tanaka are there in Severino, Montgomery, and Gray. Our pen will be stupid ridiculous next year as all of our relievers are under contract and some of our minor league or even major league arms (Holder, I’m looking at you) gain further seasoning. It’s a good time to be a Yankee fan

Just hope that Girardi didn't burn out some of those bullpen arms he leaned so hard on. And Betances had some serious issues at the end.

Houston will have to be road warriors against the dodgers. Really hope they take that series. I don't like the dodgers at all.

I am pulling for the Astros, but I would not mind at all if the Dodgers win it all. If the Sox can't win it all, I like to see a World Series with 2 good teams that haven't won it in a while. I'm just glad the Yankees are out.

Baseball is stupid

LOL

I know it stings right now, but Yankees fans should be happy with what your team accomplished this season and with the way the future of your team looks. Congrats to the Yankees fans.

Dombrowski could learn a thing or two from Cashman, who followed Ben's and Theo's blueprints.

Theo's at least.

I never understand why Dan Duquette gets left out on any GM talk here.

Manny, Pedro, Varitek, Lowe, Damon, Wakefield, Youkilis, were all Duquette moves.

Cashman himself stated that he followed Ben's (and Theo's) blueprint the best he could, and that he was very impressed with the job that Ben did. If you recall, he even tried to hire Ben as some type of assistant/consultant right after Ben left the Sox.

Seriously, anyone who thinks that Dombrowski magically took this team from the cellar to first place in one year by adding a couple of players is kidding themselves. The division winning team was largely already in place. They would have won the division either way.

Duquette gets a lot of the credit for 2004, no doubt. He was a good GM in his own right. He's no Theo, though.

Ben messed up some stuff pretty good too. He was no Theo either, that's all I'm really saying.

Weird how things flipped around, Theo with us, and Maddon and Friedman with Tampa, now Theo and Maddon together and Friedman with the Dodgers. Don't underestimate Friedman as a GM. He built a strong team too in LA. He has money now, and good evaluator too.

Yeah the Dodgers have strength at the top now with Friedman, and Dave Roberts too I think.

Back to the Yanks, this is how I see them going forward. They skip on Stanton, don't want to give up Prospects no more. Reason, they can trim pay-roll, and go after the big fish they really want, Harper in a year. All it will cost is 10 Draft spots.

This year they go hard after Otani. That's about it, except maybe resigning CC. Might trade Betances, for something. I wouldn't his stock down now. If he bounces back, see what is going on at Deadline, Prospects maybe again, using Relievers, too boost their farm was smart. Teams get desperate at the Deadline.

Our Sox better get this done within 2 years, reason... Pitching. The Yanks are loaded in the Farm all the way down to their A Teams in the Minors. They have restocked their Farms with quality young arms. That could potentially give us problems for years.

By doing this they will save tons of money.

Next year going to be very interesting year between the Sox and Yanks.

It's because certain people have a boner for monkey man Theo who is close to being a God.

Dan D might have won with Henry as his owner.

I'm not dissing Theo, but Dan was no dummy.

Yes, and also Shoppach who was part of the Coco Crisp trade.

Freedy Sanchez who brought us Jeff Suppan and Brandon Lyons who was part of the Schilling trade.

Nomar, who was traded for O Cab who helped us win in '04 and then brought us comp picks: Ellsbury (his comp pick was Kopech who helped us get Sale) and Lowrie (who brought us Melancon who brought us Holt)

Manny brought us Jason Bay, who got us comp picks that ended up being Workman & Brentz.

Pedro's departure to free agency brought us comp pick Buchholz.

Not all of these moves can be 100% attributed to Dan D- some aren't even 50% attributed to him. Several are just slightly related to his players.

My point is that every GM greatly affects what the next guy does and can do.

To celebrate another end to a Yankee season without a WS ring, I officially declare Smiley-Beni Day 2017. Smiley-Beni Day honors legendary poster/troll smiley-beni, who for years baited Yankee fans on the boston.com Red Sox forum. The day is celebrated every season except when the Yankees win the WS. It has no bearing on Red Sox performance during the same season and is celebrated whether the Red Sox win a World Series or finish in last place.

So please join me in another Smiley-Beni Day celebration. Break out the bunting, enjoy the marching band, and let the fireworks begin!

It is worth highlighting that if the Yankees kept Andrew Miller maybe they have a chance in games 6 and 7 when D.Robertson and Kahnle blow it. In return for Miller, the Yankees acquired two hyped prospects. Cashman has made some good moves, but the Andrew Miller trade haunted the Yankees postseason run. They needed a more dependable bullpen arm to go along with Chapman and didn't have it. the decline of Betances also hurt the Yankees quest.

We scored 1 run in the final 2 games. Miller was the reason we beat the Guardians. You're trolling again

They were only down 1 run when Kahnle came in and blew the game. Keep the game at 1 and the Yankees have a good chance to manufacture a run at some point. Instead, Kahnle gave up 3 runs and the Yankees now had to play for a big inning. The odds of that happening are much less than the odds of manufacturing one run. Kahnle lost the game for the Yankees yesterday. CC officially earned the L, but Kahnle was the real culprit.

That's pretty ridiculous especially since we didn't score. You keep harping on the Miller wagon and it couldn't be more off base. Return to the space under your bridge
