you are old school. you are NOT stupid.

That is a compliment and I am taking it. When you are as cranky and irascible as I can be, you got to run with them when you can.lol

2018 - a realistic view of porcello.

2016 Leon handled him beautifully and the sinker has life and movement. The four seamer is high, difficult to hit and gives hitters fits. Important note: a lot of innings pitched in 2016.

2017 Leon does not want Bruce the same success as the year before, but still handles him better than Vazquez. The sinker loses it’s life and movement, causing porcello to give up a ton of meatballs. The four seamer is unpredictable and hitters lay off it waiting for a meatball. He seemed to really struggle early in the year and get better toward the end of the year. Did all the innings from 2016 leave him with a dead arm from April to August?

So my question is: what is a realistic view for 2018 for porcello? What should we expect.

200 Innings 4.50 ERA

forget advanced metrics and stats.

we should still base pitchers value on W-L record only.

we should still base fielders value on errors only.

we should still base a hitters value on batting average only.

MAKE BASEBALL GREAT AGAIN!

or, you know....we can get on board with the fact that it's 2017.....either way.

Batting average only? That's effff'd up. You need to include RBIs too.

Inasnely slow.

Sure Ohtani and Stanton are holding up some signings. But this is ridiculous...

Cubs sign Tyler Chatwood for $38M/3.

Supposedly Stanton will make a decision within the next 3 days.

Chatwood was one of those players who was really not being held up by Ohtani and Stanton, so it's good to see at least one domino fall. It's also sad that on December 7, he's the biggest name to sign so far.

Next week could be very intriguing. I think Stanton will accept the trade to SF. The Cardinals will then go get Jose Abreu (offering something based around either Alcantra or Carson Kelly). The Red Sox will make an offer to JD Martinez. Boras will reject that offer because he does not let his own players sign in December. The Red Sox will then go sign Carlos Santana by the end of next week...

Do you see us having any chance at singing JD & Santana?

MLBTR has us signing both, plus Bryan Shaw.

MLBTR had the Sox signing Morrison, not Santana.

I could see Dombrowski going big after both players. It's certainly possible.

I'd prefer he didn't and went after Manny Machado next year...

Thanks for the correction.

If we are to go after Machado, maybe it makes more sense to go after a 1 year 1Bman and then plan on moving Devers to 1B next year.

1. Bogey SS

2. Betts RF

3. Machado 3B

4. JD Martinez DH

5. Devers 1B

6. Beni LF

7. Pedey 2B

8. JBJ CF

9. Vaz C

Or sign Yonder Alonso, who is Manny Machado's brother-in-law, as a recruiter for Manny and a 1B/DH for a couple seasons, instead of Santana.

If the Sox sign a 1B and Martinez, it's very possible (and sad) that Bradley gets dealt, so the 2018 lineup could be:

C Vazquez

1B Devers

2B Pedroia

3B Machado

SS Bogaerts

LF Martinez

CF Benintendi

RF Betts

DH Alonso

S5Dewey will be by to note his disapproval any moment. ;)

His undying hatred for 35HR Gold Glove winning corner infielders who hit the market before age 30, no doubt.

Machado probably isn't a pleasant person. But I'm not planning on hanging out with him. And if I can survive Rodney Harrison, Randy Moss, Corey Dillon, Chris Nilan and numerous other former villains on my teams, I think I can handle Machado.

It's funny how changing laundry can make a guy more palatable to the fanbase...

Now Notin - I'm not sure here but I might even agree with you although I have to add when all of those unloved guys you mentioned came to play for us I don't think that it was the laundry that had anything to do with their turn arounds. I think that that guy who decides who plays and how much in their case was the big factor. Not sure that Alex Cora is on his wave length just yet.

Sure Belicheck deserves a lot of credit. Except for Nilan.

Really its more a pont of suddenly rooting for guys you used to root against. Remember when we all hated Don Baylor?

oh I still that there is a little more to it than that. Some of those guys had to make big time changes to even get on the field in New England. Talent obviously is one thing and a very important thing but it is safe to say that no matter how good you might have been or might think you are if you are a butt hole you probably won't last too long here. It is about how can you make us better and not about how good you think that you are.

So if Randy Moss became a wonderful human being and scored 22 touchdowns for the Jets, you would have appreciated him?

I never appreciated that ass hole but what do I know I am a lifelong Giants fan. How do you like that one?

Mariners Acquire Dee Gordon

By Jeff Todd | December 7, 2017 at 3:57pm CDT

The Mariners have officially struck a deal with the Marlins to acquire second baseman Dee Gordon. Seattle will also pick up $1MM in international spending capacity. Righty Nick Neidert is going back to Miami along with fellow prospects Christopher Torres and Robert Dugger.

It’s a rather stunning move that was not at all anticipated for a Seattle organization that has highly-paid star Robinson Cano at Gordon’s accustomed position of second base. But the M’s have a plan, it seems: Gordon will move to center field, according to Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio (Twitter link) and as Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto confirms (via Divish, on Twitter).

The Marlins have been working hard to pare salary this winter, and that meant finding a taker for the 29-year-old Gordon’s contract. He’s promised another $38MM through the 2020 season, including a buyout on a $14MM option for 2021, all of which will be assumed by the Mariners. Other players are sure to follow Gordon out of Miami.

J/K

I think the J/K means just kidding. It is ok if you weren't though Notin. I'm ok with that. I'm actually getting attached to some of you strange ones with different points of view then mine. lol For the record - lest we forget - I am old school. Not too good with this new technical stuff.

Truer words were never spoken.

I very much dislike Machado and do not want him on my team, but that said, I'm sure I'd feel much differently if he were actually signed by the Sox.

Is it just the Pedey incident?
