I'd be on board if Travis had the power profile of a 1b. He doesn't.

i was only saying travis instead of resigning moreland. to me...moreland does not have the power profile of a 1b either. so why bother with him....

FTR my #1 priority is trading for Giancarlo.

my #2 priority is signing JD.

so how are we supposed to figure out when to listen to him and when not to?

the dude is a liar. and that's the thing with liars....it's impossible to ever really trust them.

I think it's all about word choice, similar to BB. Media people rag on BB for his non-answers. That doesn't make BB a liar. It's all in HOW you answer the question.

"We don't have plans to bring Devers up right now" doesn't mean "we are definitely not calling him up."

Also, s*** changes. Sorry shhhhh changes... Unless DD all of a sudden thinks Brentz is a middle of the order bat or starts to feed Swihart massive amounts of roids, they'll have to get someone else with a decent power profile to round out the lineup.

I agree. Moreland is fine, but what's the point, you know?

I think Stanton is out. Their best bet is JD followed by Santana. If they don't get one of those three, I'll be disappointed.

He's not a liar, let's be reasonable.

Don't you know that any written or spoken mistake is now characterized as a lie? People don't understand that a lie is intended to mislead.

how do you reconcile how he says something and then the exact opposite is what happens?

he is either:

A) a liar

or

B) clueless

neither is a very good look for a GM/President of Operations of a MLB Franchise.....

I want my GM to be a good liar

It is needed at times, but there was no need to mislead when he said there would be no surgeries.

Maybe he misspoke.

Maybe he didn't know, which I find hard to believe and would think that's worse than lying when not needed.

Bad or imprecise communication is a possibility. You continually misstate my positions, which are you -- a liar or clueless? LOL!!

I expect the Sox get one of Santana or Martinez. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox sign both....

i totally get BB. his answers (or non answers) dont make him look like a fool. well, except for the time he kind of threw TB12 under the bus with the whole "ask him not me" line.

on the first day of NFL off season if BB is asked who is expected to have off season surgery and he answers "nobody" and 24 hours 3 Patriots players are under the knife i will call him a liar or clueless. i dont think that will happen.

DD on the other hand has proven it over and over again. fool me once....how many times does he need to fool you?

my response wasnt even to you. it was to Bell. so ummm...there's that. also, i am not the GM of one of the highest profile baseball teams on the planet. im a poster on a red sox fan forum. so ummm...there's that.

It's a public forum. You made a comment about the GM on the public forum, so there is that. Second, DD is human just like you. People make mistakes and misstatements. That doesn't make them liars or clueless. So, umm ..there is that.

The surgeries thing was wacky but whatever it was about, he had nothing to gain by it and it's ultimately irrelevant.

Back before the internet we would never even know about something so trivial.

Dear me. As MVP has just said - things change. Wording is important. But you know what you want from a GM? Exactly what Dombroski gives - Not a lot away.

In what world would you want your GM telling every club and agent exactly what he wants? Our price would go through the roof got everything.

A GM isn't there to drip feed you (or any fan) up to date accurate information.

Calling him a liar is hysterical nonsense.

The surgery thing was more amusing to me than anything else...not sure why some people are still so hung up about it. All of the surgeries were known about almost immediately in the following days, so it's not like he was trying to conceal something. Wasn't this right around the time Farrell was fired? Maybe he just didn't give a f*** about Hanley's shoulder that day... He could/should have chosen different wording perhaps, but you know it's a slow winter when we're still talking about this 2 months later. Edited by Jack Flap

It was a miscommunication at best. A lie? To what purpose. He didn't know about Pedroia's knee etc? Really? That's silly too.

I agree people are making way too much about the surgery thing, like they are trying to find fault in Dombrowski.

I don't expect a GM for any team to tip his hand about anything...

Posted
Also, without permission, he can’t talk about anything under HIPAA

Also true.

And frankly, I really don't want his opinion on anything medical...

Posted
He could have been told the exact nature of the surgery and all that comes with it. Without the patient’s say so, he’s not legally allowed to speak about it

He probably could have. There is certainly something in all MLB contracts that gives the team the ability to speak about medical issues...

ain't that the truth!

I'm with you all the way here Jack. Dombrowski has a job that is always open to criticism in this day and age regardless of what he says or does. As is pretty obvious from reading these various threads, he isn't going to be making everybody happy anytime soon. I truly believe that if we win a ring next year there will be people who will find a way to criticize something that he either did or did not do in their estimation. Hey - Ben Cherington ain't walking through that door again anytime soon folks. wink wink(just trying to add some humor - not trying to mess with the hornets nest)

Which would seem to be the one logical explanation for the whole thing.

so i am looking for other options.

A = liar

B = clueless

i never said those were the only choices. they were the choices i proposed.

no one is offering C or D or E or.....

maybe C = doesnt care what he says

D = HIPAA

E = consumed with Farrel firing and forgot about the 3 pending surgeries to his players

F = he has very poor communication skills
