Maybe the extra time given to GMs to decide on what is right for their teams will allow us to avoid making any free agent mistakes.

We sure could use some good luck with free agents for once.

Pete Abraham reporting the Red Sox are out of the Ohtani sweepstakes.

Imnot' doubting this, but where is all this coming from?

Seattle Mariner fans are freaking out.

Except me ... I remain hopeful.

Best of luck to you! It sounds like you guys are in good position...

Feels like this writing has been on the wall for a little while now.

At least I can be glad that it looks like he's staying out of the AL, and hopeful that his eventual decision will help set some other moves in motion...

I agree. I don't think there was ever much of a chance of the Sox landing Stanton.

This has been an extremely slow moving offseason. It would be nice if something exciting happened.

It does seem to me that Seattle is the type of fit that Ohtani is looking for.

Good luck to your team. Better the Mariners than the Yankees.

I am devastated that we missed out on ohtani. That hurts!

I think we need more pitching and sign Matt Adams to play first base for us, I think Adams swing is custom made for Fenway.

Between price’s elbow and rodriguez’s Knee, we need more pitching, starting pitching. There are some decent arms available, desperate dave needs to go get another stud starter and a couple relievers.

Sources: #Marlins have agreed to general framework of Giancarlo Stanton trades with both #STLCards and #SFGiants; the deals are on hold, while Marlins wait for Stanton to inform them whether he’d accept either trade. @MLB @MLBNetwork

I read in the SF newspaper today that Stanton is holding out waiting for the Dodgers to make a push for him. He grew up near LA (or in it) and would love to play for his hometown team. Fine by me; too rich a contract. We need to make a run at Abreu and/or Santana and get one more decent SP. The rest of any improvement has to be made by the current underperforming players.

@Sean_McAdam

Thornburg gets $2.05 million, same salary as last year.

I wonder if he was thinking that he should get a raise.

he will have to make sacrifices. sadly he may have to forego the Mercedes Gullwing this year.....

times really are tough for some of these guys lol

He will get JD and end up 1 for 3.

I don't think so. Like Kimmi, I didn't think we had much of a shot at getting Stanton. Nor was it ever likely that we would get Ohtani. The JD situation means a big commitment in salary and years and I would also avoid it. I think DD (Decisive Dave) will get something done but it is more likely to be with a Santana or Abreu. Unfortunately, we woulld have to give up a package that to get Abreu. No doubt there will be a lot of complaining if he puts much of our young talent into getting him.

While I think spending large is not the best idea, I think DD wants a big splash and isn't worried about 3 years from now.

As long as Henry is okay with going over the luxury tax by over $25M, I think he'll do it- either with JD and a pitcher or 3-4 mid range FA.

Except for the Abreu part, I very much agree with this post. I'm not opposed to getting Abreu if the price is right, but it doesn't sound like it will be. The same goes with JD Martinez.
