If I'm not mistaken, the Guardians and the Yankees play each other next. Win-win for us. That's provided that we win our games, of course.

If the Yankees sweep, that's not a win for us.

What are our Tragic Numbers? :P

Right now, it's 4.

4 straight losses and 4 runs scored this weekend.

That's plenty tragic.

Take 3 of 4 from the MFYs a the end of the month and that should get them the division.

with no Price, we may actually have a shot to go deep into thre playoffs! ;)

Really don't want to face Cleveland what so ever come playoffs. I think we would actually have a good shot at beating Houston. They have really cooled down in the second half of the season and we won our season series against them. But then again with how wildly inconsistent we have been any team could take us out in the playoffs. Hopefully this team turns it on entering playoffs.

No, the Sox have not won their season series against the Astros. They are 2-1 with 4 to play at Fenway the last weekend of the season.

OTOH, they did win the season series from Cleveland 4-3.

All of which means nothing once October rolls around.

Yup, I want nothing to do with Cleveland in the playoffs.

I'll take my chances against Cleveland on the road, than potentially having to win the AL Wild Card game, and then facing the Astros with only one Sale start. We should be rooting for a Cleveland sweep.

I think my signature says it all.

That would be the worst case scenario, but it would still be a mild win. Again, that's provided that we win our games as well. Trust me, I really hope and prefer that the Yankees get swept.

I agree completely with your signature. I never want the Yankees anywhere near the playoffs.

The way I determine who I least want to face in the playoffs is to consider which team would it hurt the most to lose to. That's always the Yankees, so I always hope they get eliminated before we have to face them in the playoffs, even if they might be a lesser opponent on paper.

OTOH, beating them would also bring the most joy over any other team, so there is that.

@PeteAbe

The #RedSox have 31 games left, 14 against the Blue Jays (8), Athletics (3) and Reds (3).

Need to win the easy ones.

We need JBJ and Pedey back to help us do that. It sounds like both will be back during this week so things are looking up.

I'm hoping Pedey can play plus D and continue hitting in the high .700's.

I think JBJ will be fine.

These two returning solves our bench issues instantly.

Yes, playing Holt, Young or Davis hasn't worked out but Pedey does create a problem in that we still need Nunez's bat.

There are a lot of guys on the roster that could use a day off.

Im surprised no talk of Verlander either by Boston or other teams? Might be the one Player who could be the final piece to a banner especially after the last few outings which included a gem vs LA

We did have a lot of days off earlier in the month.

You're right though, some of our players look tired- some banged up.

Obviously not at full speed. But Dustin Pedroia has started running the bases. Good sign for the #RedSox.

More like a job, but whatever.

I'm just saying that there always ways of keeping Nunez in the lineup if he's hitting.

He might be, but you're taking on a lot of money and presumably giving up a prospect or two as well. Not exactly an easy get.

For the Sox, it's not just about blowing past the luxury limit, it's about massive taxes over the next 2-3 years. Verlander is likely to decline further.

Agreed.

We can give Beni, Devers and Moreland some rest vs LHPs and HRam, Betts and Pedey vs RHPs to the point where Nunez plays just about FT.,

Magic Numbers:

Division - 28

Wild Card - 25

That wild card race is literally starting to look wild! Whole bunch of teams battling it out. Can

t take anything for granted. We just have to keep on keepin on - winning.

Posted (edited)

UPDATE.

30 GAMES TO GO.

75-57

Currently we are in 1st place in the division.

FanGraphs odds to win the division: 89.2%

4 Games ahead of MFY (3 in the loss column).

Stick a fork in Tampa and Toronto. Baltimore trying to fight back into the Playin Game mix.

The Wild Card is dumb. Right now, if you're a .500 team in the AL, you're only 2.5 games out of the 2nd spot. Yuck!
