Panic City

We lose two, and the world is ending.

I won't lie.... I was the last one to panic this last week but if we lose today and the Yanks win and are only 2 games behind us with a 4 game series against the Astros I will be sweating big time..... That is way too close for comfort for me especially with how bad the starting pitching has been this last week..... Ugh I hope Porcello brings his A game tonight we really really need it!!!! I know the Astros will be resting some of their players but still.....

What happens if the Yanks and Sox tie with the same record? Who has the tie breaker or how does that work again? I forget....

If we tie, we play a one game playoff in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won the season series, so theyd be home

The sox and yankees would play a tie-breaker game. I wouldn't count on Houston resting many players, there still in the hunt for best record with Cleveland.

i understand your point. i think mine might be being missed. there is only 1 reason he was sent out in a 8-0 game with 99 pitches to pitch the 8th inning. 1 reason. it wasn't a team reason.

I understand your point, but think the 9th inning didn't have to do with anything except pitch count. If he didn't get to 300 by the end of the 8th, I think he would have still not pitched the 9th.

in any other circumstance outside of JF i would 100% agree with you. but we are talking about JF.

"come on skip, i only need 3 more pitches to get the K"

"OK"

A division tie from a playoff readiness point of view is a bad situation, especially for the loser of the playoff. The loser would then host the wild card game on Tuesday (probably against a rested Twins team) and if they win, would have to go to Houston or Cleveland for games 1-2 of the ALDS on Thursday and Friday.

If we tie, which is a humongous if, then both teams will go all out. It will be an issue for playoff readiness for sure, but getting into a guaranteed 3 game bout vs a one and done is huge

Let's say they tie (more than a long shot)

Who do you pitch in that game? your best pitcher or the 2nd best?

take into consideration that the loosing team still need to fight for his life in the WC game

Sale. It would be his turn in the rotation. Some may say he's the 2nd best and not an ace because ummmmm uhhhh because TalkSox?

100% you pitch your #1. and if you lose game 163 then all hands on deck for the playin game.

If the Sox and Yanks wind up tied—and somewhere, you can bet Rob Manfred is praying for this—they would play a one-game tiebreaker in the Bronx to determine the division champion, with the loser most likely winding up as the host of the wild card game.

Some dwell on 3%.

I think there are logical reasons for concern.

-4 out of our 5 starters were bad in their latest start.

-We're banged up.

-We have 4 games with a very good team that may be playing for the best record in the league.

-Yankees have been hot.

I'm not in a panic, I don't panic about the Sox any more. They've won it all for me 3 times and I've got nothing to complain about. Whatever happens, happens.

I just don't think Sox fans should be feeling cozy because a computer program says we're at 95.6%.

Please don't throw the statistics out with the bathwater.

I think historical baseball statistics are excellent. Projections are a whole other story. It's been proven to the nth degree that nobody can predict s***.

It would not be Sale; rotation is Sale (TU), Porcello (W), ERod (TH), Fister (F), Pomernaz (SA), which puts Sale on Sunday. If they have to win, that when he goes next. I believe the plan right now if they have won the division by then ise to skip Sale's start.

Porcello would get the nod in a playoff game because its his turn. Should they lose that, ERod would get the wild-card game against the Twins. Win that and Pomeranz gets game 1 of the ALDS (If Sale has to go Sunday, Pomeranz starts game 1 anyway).

Got that horrible sinking feeling that by the end of the regular season, I'll be like the guy in The Scream, looking at the Sox in the wildcard game.

Positive thinking NS! We are still in a much better position than those evil guys.

Realistically, we are a flawed team by way of our death of good hitters and especially power hitters. We are further flawed by injuries to our key right handed hitters at the crucial point where we are struggling for the pennant. Our strength of starting pitching looks tired and our relief pitching isn't doing it either for the last two games at least. Add to that, our stretch run is against hot teams whille the Yankees are not facing quite the same challenge.

Still we only need to win 2 game of the last 5 while the Yankees lose 1 of their next 5. If that can't happen are we really pennant caliber? I have seen many finishes, good and bad, and hope now for a couple of good pitching performances along with the return of our better hitters so that we can progress.

If we can't accomplish that, then we don't deserve the division. Simple as that.

Just a reminder to all:

We got this!

Now we need at least 1 against Houston and the Yankees need to lose one of their last 4. Sounds doable. If we can split with Houston, then we don't have to watch the Yankee box score.

It was enouraging to see us score 10 runs without either Betts or Nunez active. Did they have a team meeting that we didn't hear about? Looked like a different team tonight. Very encouraging to see Price throwing well and with a 97 mph fastball. Also very encouraging to see Bogey playing so hard and well. Good time for him to extend what seems to have been an offensive streak for him. Both Hanley and Moreland also connected. We need rested pitching to go along with this desperate effort made tonight.
