Is there anything this 20-year old rookie can't do? Big time scene, Yankees vs Red Sox. He starts the scoring with a 2-run homer, starts the big with a single, then puts on the finishing touch by leading a double steal!

Is that nise I'm hearing coming from the Sox financial wizards? 15 year minimum----NOW!

700 saw a heck of a game if he stuck around!
If Sanchez got a hit to increase the lead to 7 or 8 to 3, we were going to leave. We stayed and almost everyone else stayed too. What a game! The last 2 games have been so exciting that they could wake the dead.

This kid Devers is unbelievable. He swung at Chapman's 98 mph heater like it was BP and hit a rope. I was talking about this kid's baseball IQ with Spudboy yesterday. His baseball instincts are off the charts for his age or any age. Did the announcers say that he did the 8th inning double steal on his own. He did it the right way. He got such a good jump that there wasn't even a throw. He went in standing. This kid is impressive on TV, but at the game I watch him intently and his instincts and judgment are excellent.

They didn't say if he went on his own. They just noted that Chapman wasn't looking their way at all and if he's not paying attention, it's a good play.

This is the kind of game to lift the spirits of not oly us fans but also the players. They need one like this to come out of the doldrums. Message to Hanram and Young, you guys also have to show up.

I'm sure I couldn't even see one of those pitches. Nor could I hit a golf ball out of Fenway. But, given Chapman's mental breakdown, I'm pretty sure, even at more than 3x Devers' age, I could have made third on that play.

Not the point, if your 50 and could have made it. It matters more that a 20 year old was paying attention, and thinking. Smart wins a lot of games. Should have a stat for this. Edited by OH FOY!

I think the team has talked about running on Chapman in general, and that it's always something to keep in consideration if the situation arises. I'm guessing they did it on their own.

Chapman had one big mental cluster beep in that game. Yankees fans are not pleased with Girardi's bullpen use last night.

Awesome win. Just awesome.

As others mentioned, I think Reed's performance was huge. The Yankees could have put the game out of reach in the 7th. What Reed did to stop the bleeding allowed us to come back and win. Then he shut them down in the 8th. Good to see.

Young has a .975 OPS this month (4th best on the team).

I'm not sure what more we can expect from a 4th OF'er who doesn't play everyday.

HRam seems to get singled out more often than many, but he's been about in the middle of the pack among all Sox hitters all year. Granted, that's not good for a clean-up hitters, but to me that's more on Farrell for leaving him there when others are hitting better.

Here are our numbers by R-L splits

vs RHPs (18+ PAs)

1.080 Devers

1.042 Nunez

.846 Beni

.810 Young (surprise)

.788 Betts

.777 Moreland

.756 Pedey

.755 HRam

.746 Bogey

.710 JBJ

.705 Vaz

.657 Leon

.467 Holt

.412 Marrero

vs LHPs

1.216 Devers

1.003 Travis

.949 Marrero

.932 Pedey

.889 JBJ (surprising)

.830 Vaz

.818 HRam

.806 Betts

.762 Nunez

.714 Leon

.708 Bogey

.641 Moreland

.636 Young (shocking)

.618 Holt

.615 Beni

Looking at these numbers, I see a few things that jump out at me:

1) A Marrero-Lin platoon should replace Holt in September as the second SS, 3B, 2B sub off the bench behind Nunez.

2) Sam Travis might be a nice platoon with HRam/Moreland at 1B vs LHPs.

3) HRam is fine at clean-up vs LHPs, but he should be moved down vs RHPs.

4) Why does Holt get to play so much? It's not his D, and it certainly is not his O!

5) I would not expect the big reverse splits by JBJ and Young to continue- just my opinion.

6) As hot as Beni has been, his splits vs LHPs are very worrisome.

Awesome win last night!!!! Offense definitely bailed us out last night.

Reed "bailed us out" as well.

I think that trade might turn out to be huge.

I was in a bar with friends watching the game, but I couldn't follow it as I wanted, so I'm going to watch it again right now hahaha

An interesting note that I thought was worth sharing: Due to technnical difficulties on the Hartford affiliate for WEEI, I was forced to listen to the 7th inning rally on the Yankees radio network. Not that it was a horrible experience or anything; I actually enjoyed John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. What was interesting to me, though, was that it seemed like Sterling was rooting for the Sox to come back. He used the same exact excited voice for the hits by Benintendi and Moreland as he used for the Yankees rally in the top half of that inning. It was the same kind of voice he uses every time the Yankees win. I thought back to all the times I've heard Joe Castiglione, and how he has two distinct tones, one for a Red Sox scoring play, one for the opponents. I don't know, it just seemed really weird to me that Sterling was so excited for the Red Sox coming back. This is one of the few area where sportscasters are encouraged to be biased, and he isn't.
