Pedroia with the non-repeatable clutch hit for the lead.

The nice thing is, his defense is a repeatable skill.

He has had some trouble but has only given up 2 hits tonight. Far from a bad game. If we keep producing runs like this I will take this play from Porcello any day of the week.

Porcello did not pitch great, but IMO, it was a step in the right direction. He kept the team in the game and went 6 1/3. You want better from him, but can't really complain about that.

Porcello looked more to me like the real Porcello. The play by Pedroia was one of the better ones that I have seen!

Nobody could even imagine Napoli hitting it against Kimbrel.

That's the way hitters need to get to Kimbrel - jump on that first fastball. Kimbrel was due for a blown save, I guess. While we never want to see those, if you're going to blow a save, that's the way to do it. Don't give up the tie, and hope your team comes back to win. It really doesn't feel bad in that case.

Awesome play by Pedroia. He had himself one heck of a game.

While I agree the 5 game winning streak is pretty great, I also think it's a great sign when Kimbrel blows a save and the Sox still win it in the 11th. Plus 6 of the 7 runs came in from singles--2 by Pedey and 1 by Beni.

The Sox have now won 48 games, 2d most in the AL, but last night was only the 7th win when the other team scored 5 or more runs. When the Sox score 4 or more runs, they are now 43-10.

Porcello went 6.1 giving up 3 runs which is, I'm pretty sure, a quality start--against a team that has scored more runs than the Sox have, season to date. In other words, well done, Porcello--and Kimmi who said that's what he had to do.

Tonight Price and tomorrow night Fister, then on to Tampa where we will go with our four best--Sale, Pomeranz, Porcello, and Price--before the ASG break. This year the Rays pitching ain't that great--a surprise--but there hitting is decent--bigger surprise.

Enough of the phony baloney trends, etc. Last night was a terrific team win when the starter was good enough to win but didn't, the closer couldn't close, and we won anyway with dadgum singles, but very timely singles. This was a win to savor.

As sk said so well, generate base runners and the runs will come.

And when they come from singles they will break your heart if you are the opposing team's fans.

I agree.

That play by Pedroia was absolutely nuts. What presence of mind and reflexes.

They replayed it like a million times and deservedly so. Presence of mind, reflexes, and, at the end, a perfect throw he had to make quickly.

And can we please give Moreland some credit for being there and making the tag? Pedey's play was the flashiest but it was a two-pronged great play.

Yes, Moreland deserves credit too.
