Yes, still still tied for first in the AL, but, more realistically, 1 of 12 AL teams with a shot at the playoffs. Only Houston is in the cat bird seat. Everyone else has hopes and concerns, and the Sox are no exception.

I believe this is the first Sox team in the John Henry era with such weak hitting and such reliance on the pitching, especially the bullpen.

It's an interesting stat to a point, but how does it compare with other teams? I'd imagine most teams have pretty good records when they score 4+ runs and pretty bad ones when they don't.

Oh s***, the Sox are turning into the Mariners. FML.

In the sizable sample since the Red Sox won the 2013 World Series, the Mariners have a cumulative record of 288-277 while the Sox have a record of 285-278 (excluding the three postseason losses in 2016).:)

Harmony, do you live in Boston and are a Seattle fan or do you just have an affinity for posting here?

I know a few other Seattle fans who live in the area.

I am a Mariner fan living in Oregon but I study the Red Sox the way someone studies a second language. I post at many baseball message boards, but frequently on Red Sox forums, starting in 2006.

Red Sox fans are the coolest. Who wouldn't want to spend time with us?

Yeah, I would agree. I'm too lazy to look at it team by team, but I'm guessing that's the case with any team that has decent pitching.

The Yankees are 33-14 when scoring more than 4 runs and 9-20 when they don't, so their numbers aren't as extreme as ours are.

Sox are 43-0 when scoring more than their opponent.

Now that's just mean. Unfortunately, you also have a point, which is the same as mvp78's and others: so what?

2017:

39-10 (.796) when scoring 4 or more (15-9 /.625 when scoring 4-5 runs)

4-25 (.138) when they score 3 or less (4-13 /.235 when scoring 2-3 runs)

2016:

84-23 (.785) when scoring 4 of more (26-12/.684 when scoring 4-5 runs)

9-40 (.184) when scoring 3 or less (8-27/.229 when scoring 2-3 runs)

It's really about the amount of games we score 0-1 runs:

2016: 1-19 (20 games is 12.3% of our games)

2017: 0-12 (12 games is 15.1% of our games)

Games scoring 2-3 runs:

2016: 8-21 (.276)

2017: 4-13 (.235)

There's not a big difference here in winning percentage.
