That's all on Marrero... cover the bad and the throw was there..
And it would have been a bang bang play with the runner moving. The play was at first base, but Marrero didn't do his job either.

box score says no errors charged to the Sox, all 3 runs are earned, and that the Orioles hit 2 doubles in the 1st inning and could have had a third.

I'm not sure Sandoval screwed up that tag--it was a very good slide--but I don't understand why he threw to second on the grounder.

Our fielding and base running continues to be mindless. This isn't a function of randomness. It is a function of poor coaching. Farrell needs to go.

Not even close. Its a 3-2 count with 2 outs and runner was moving, why would Pablo even look for 2B there?

Players go to second all the time in that situation. ALL the TIME........... They had him if Marrero was covering.....

Throwing to 2nd is the normal play unless the runner took off on the pitch.

Bottom line is that Pedroia would have covered 2B.

We had 2 bare singles in the first inning, and the Orioles and two doubles and a single that maybe could have been a double.

This ain't all on Sandoval even though I agree he screwed up in the field.

I don't care who made the mistake. There is too much stupidity on the bases and in the field and the blame lies at the feet of Farrell.

I'll agree with you on that one...... I can't remember a more sloppy Sox team. I've never seen one in my life time...

the runner was moving on the pitch, no reason to ever throw to 2b there with a runner running, it was bang bang and davis might've beat throw anyway. go to 1st, its an easy out.. well maybe not easy, it has Pablo.

you can judge it when you get the ball at third....... he threw on target.......... someone should have been there...

I PLAYED baseball. if runner is running on a 3-2 count with two outs and ball Is hit to you, GO TO 1ST, its not a fast runner, there is NO REASON to go to 2b there..

I guess I should trust pablos judgement though, he's a high iq player who doesn't make mental mistakes or errors ever and is signed for the cheap bargain.

Sorry, but I don't agree. Moreland just screwed up, simple as that. You can't teach or coach the ability to make good decisions on the basepaths. As for Sandoval, he is playing in part because the front office wants him to play, plus he made no error and so far has our only extra base hit. As for Marrero, maybe he got too used to playing 3b.

And I am tired about listening about how hard 3B coach Butterball works. Hard work means nothing if it is stupid work. Were his hands up to stop Moreland from making the last out at 3B in the first inning?

Nope. He is looking at the 3B coach who should have both hands held high stopping the runner.

I agree with Butterfield. However, That play was on Moreland, he made a bad read and even put his hands up and smacked his chest to say "my bad". Just a dumb play by him, didn't even look for his coaches to help him.

and how is that not an error on Pablo? really a fielders choice? so a fielder decided to be retarded and doesn't get an error? come on man.

Did they really not give Pablo an error? Baseball doesn't make sense sometimes.

Someone should have yelled first base too. Another failure on that play. It comes back to coaching.

Bang bang play at second, had runner out at 1st by 30 feet. A good tag at 3b = no runs. Pablo = bad carma.

Maybe he ran through the stop sign. I didn't notice that. But you have to be yelling at your guys. "Back back back!" should have been getting screamed by Butterworth. What does he think his role is out there -- to relay all the signs for the plays that we never put on?

Wow...... you played baseball........ I played third for about a decade.... at third you have a great view to see if you can get the guy at second. It might not be the preffered play, but it should be routine. Flip to second....... and out...

HE HAD HIM DEAD. Someone should have been there no matter what.
