Pedroia plays the game hard. Guys who play like that are more likely to get hurt. The latest is Trout. Poor Marco got hurt without any contact at all. He is out for the year. Body builder Hanley can't play first base because his shoulder still hurts. Some guys are slow healers. Pedroia will be back soon.

He'll just play the 2nd half of the season nursing the injury and playing at replacement level. Great.

Dustin Pedroia is indeed going to the disabled list. Pablo Sandoval is on his way to Chicago. Second opinion for Pedroia still to come.

Damn!

Pedroia comes off as an arrogant douche. Even when he was young and in his prime... now that hes older and declining, it makes it harder to deal with. but this is still a huge loss, now we have two black holes in our infield. Rutledge and Marrero are both every day players now? yikes.

Dubon would be looking good right about now...

That collision was entirely on Abreu. In fact, I suspect it was intended to injury either Pedroia's knee (operated on last off season) or somewhere else--the wrist, as it turns out.

My opinion of Pedroia overall has not changed because I agree with him that Machado's slide was intended to beat the throw--which he almost did--and not to get Pedroia. That showed in Machado's immediate reaction after the slide and in Pedroia's response--he was neither angry nor craving payback. Thus Barnes throwing at Machado was an embarassment. Baltimore hitting Betts was not.

Pedroia scheduled to hold a presser before today's game in order to let Abreu know that any retribution the ChiSox receive the next 2 nights is not him..."it's them" (pointing to the Red Sox clubhouse)........

i know i post a lot of sarcasm so even i'm not sure when i'm serious or not. but quite honestly, i meant this post. this was a game when we needed our best players to step up. Listen, i get it...it's only a game at the end of May. but here's the thing...we have been up and down and mostly playing "flat" all season. we then get some mojo going and rip off 6 W's in a row. we lose the finale at home and then hit the road for a long 10 game trip. game 1 of that trip our $31MM ace is making his first start of the season and yes, we need him to gain confidence. we all know it. so for our "dirt dog" dustin pedroia to stumble over the first baseman in his first AB and then take himself out of the game is PUSSIFICATION. i am fed up with this guy. for year's i thought he was a "team first" player. boy, was the wool being pulled over my eyes. NOT ANYMORE. this is twice in 2 months that he has shown his true colors. we needed that W yesterday. for many reasons. Pedroia needed to be a bitch ass baby dik. for his own selfish reasons.

rant over - for now.

I was not happy with the way Pedroia handled the Machado incident, but he is one of the last players that I would consider a pansy. He is also one of the last players who would readily take himself out of a game over an insignificant injury.

It is always amusing to hear internet posters referring to professional athletes as soft or wusses or whatever words distinguish them from the bad-ass posters themselves.

Would you like to know his numbers since the Machado injury? Yes, of course you would.

312/392/440

Take that!

i was running some 7' rough sewn red oak boards through my planer last night and slipped on some sawdust and banged my funny bone really really really hard. i told my wife i was going to take 10 days off of work to "recover". she called me a pussy so i guess i'll go to work today.....

He can put up ok numbers with a lower body injury. I'm much more concerned about his numbers when he gets hand and wrist injuries. It seems he gets a hand injury every year either diving for a ball or a fluke collision.

He was playing well recently so it's extra frustrating to see him go down when he had just started to heat up.

Didn't he take himself out of the game last week when it was raining due to his knee that was injured in an insignificant manner?

J. D. Pedroia!

Don't sully JD's good name. Unlike Pedroia, JD has postseason heroics that can be shown in a fancy MLB package.

I liked Drew a lot. At the time, I thought his contract was too big. In that big contract, there were 2 seasons where he didn't come close to earning his money. In retrospect and by today's standards, his deal was not at all unreasonable. The only problem that I had with Drew was that I was always fearful when he would grimace that he would miss a month of games. He is still the only player I know who missed a month of games injuring himself on his Home Run trot except for Kendrys Morales who broke his leg stomping on home plate after a game winning GS.

Did he? I'm thinking Farrell took him out.

Didn't Gabe Kapler tear his ACL rounding 2B on someone elses home run? I remember he had a really seriously knee/leg injury and had to be carted off in the middle of a home run trot because he couldn't continue rounding the bases to score.

I think you are right that Kapler did hurt himself on someone else's Home Run, but he was running hard not knowing if the ball was out of the park. That is my recollection. JD was just in a normal Home Run trot.
