This is true. The "trade JBJ" seems like it comes up every season, then again in the off season.

But only when he's not hitting..

He should be traded when he is hitting or after a season when he puts up some decent numbers.

Actually I'm all for keeping this outfield intact for as long as possible. ...

I agree, the defense alone makes this outfield outstanding, and even if JBJ doesn't hit (I still think he'll be fine), we know Mookie and Beni will.

I am firmly against trading JBJ.

I am in agreement with all three posts.

These two apparently opposing statements are alas likely to prove compatible.

Nope. Just the logic of resignation: (1) he shouldn't be traded until he starts hitting; (2) he should be kept as long as possible. (There's no conflict--I don't see him ever to return to hitting as he briefly did last year).

I have been one of Jackie's biggest critics. Never really saw what other people have seen in him in the past. But, having said that, I think it is far too easy to get on him now. I think he will come around, he's made me look like an ******* before. Don't trade him.

I get complaining about the offense, but the Sox aren't being held back by the #7 hitter. ..

There is really no mention in this thread of trading Bradley for anything, so is this just about getting rid of home?

Not sure why the OP thinks the Sox are "screwed" if Bradley doesn't hit, either. Especially since he's the one guy who contributes the most without hitting...

Never want to miss one of his hot streaks and as he matures the cold streaks should not last as long.

My feeling on JBJ is that the hitting will come around. He has hit in the past. No reason why he can't do it now. I do feel that improved hitting is necessary to justify putting him out there every day. We all know he is a great defender , but that is not enough. Most , if not all , centerfielders are great defenders. That is why they are out there. You could make a case that JBJ is the best , but the difference is not great enough to compensate for the lack of offense. A couple of days off and some work with Chili Davis should get him going. Patience is a virtue ; a virtue in short supply with Sox fans.

The issue isn't how good the CF's are on other teams. The issue is how good OUR OF is going to be.

Yes, we can move Beni over into CF and put ?? there but then we've weakened two positions defensively, probably in the hope that whomever we pick up to fill LF will put up the equivalent of JBJ's .800+ OPS only won't be streaky when he does it. Does that make any sense?

He could just be a streaky hitter about to enter a red-hot streak.
In a strong lineup like we had last season, the team could weather the slumps and roll when he got hot. Right now, we have no big bopper type of hitter and 3 black holes producing nothing. All of our production is coming from 4 or 5 singles type hitters. When you have a number of black holes, you need the multi run HR once in a while. Edited by a700hitter

No question Bradley in center and Benintendi in left is better defensively than Benintendi in center and Young in left. But how much offense is it worth giving up to get a somewhat improved defense? That is the issue. Anyway , the problem goes away if Jackie starts hitting. I feel confident that he will. My point is that you can't keep putting him out there for his glove alone. You need some production at the plate too. An OPS of .800 would be more than enough for sure.

It looks like JBJ is no longer the starter, and that may not change unless Young stops hitting or someone gets hurt.

Ah! He stopped hitting! 0-3. So obviously he needs to be benched or traded immediately.

Correction! Young just started hitting again. Bench or trade JBJ immediately.

Young 2 hits in his last two ABs. Obviously he's due for an out. Bench him.

JBJ has had some epic slumps. It's a concern to say the least.

Can those really be called 'slumps'? Aren't they more likely the norm? What is not the norm is the incredible month he had last year. But I don't recall he's had anything close to that at any other time in his career.

You don't remember his ridiculous hot streak in August 2015?
