guys, we were never ahead or way behind in those games. it wasn't the time to retaliate. Sunday was the PERFECT time. and that's when they attempted to do it.

I don't have a problem with the retaliation coming on Sunday. It's not an issue for me.

They typically give a 6 day suspension so that ERod would have gotten pushed back a few days.

Appeal usually drop 1 day for them. Soometimes with off days he wouldn't missed a start if timed correctly. And that is better than not having the 8th inning guy for 4 games.

Erod tried to plunk him in the leg 3 pitches in a row. he missed. it happens.

I know, how the heck do you missed it 4 times. The message can also be sent throwing behind him while not connecting.

The more I think about this, the more I think there's even more to it than we know so far. I'm thinking that there had been some discussions before this game about how to handle the reprisal, and that Pedroia had disagreed with how Farrell wanted to do it. So when Pedroia acted like he did after the pitch by Barnes it wasn't a spontaneous thing.

That suggests open dissent in the clubhouse and a problem that could linger all season. Not good at all.

I did not like Pedroia's reaction one bit, but I don't think it's going to be a lingering issue. Nor am I overly concerned about leadership issues. Pedroia has always been a leader. Go back to the way he stuck up for Youk with the Bobby V incident. Pedroia messed up. It happens.

I think you guys are reading too much into it.

I've moved on. It's about baseball now. It's water under the bridge.

Yup. I guess the question is whether the team has moved on from it. Time will tell.

If that was the case, his teammates shouldn't be surprised by Pedroia's reaction. Pedroia strikes me as a bluntly honest guy who also wanted to let Machado know that he realizes the spiking was accidental and just part of the game. It kind of fits Pedroia's hard-nosed personality. Being a good teammate isn't always about agreeing with each other as long as you give your all on the field. Pedroia's teammates know he is team first every minute on the field and always gives full effort.

He uttered the words, "it's not me, it's them." He referred to his teammates as 'them'. He will have to live with it.

Yes, letting him know his teammates wanted to do it and not him. They did it against his wishes. Maybe this is controversial, but it fits Pedroias blunt personality. I think he will live with it just fine.

David Ross presented some alternative facts stating that what Pedroia was trying to say was "I didn't tell them to do it, but they have my backs so stop staring at me."

This wouldn't be an issue if Machado wasn't such a baby.

Ross had a very good interpretation of what Pedroia said, IMO. It made me rethink my initial reaction to it.

Also, Ross had some very good insight regarding Pedroia's leadership, for those who were/are concerned about his ability to be a leader.

Ross would know better than any of us.

FTR, after reading Ross' comments and the following tweet, I am fully back on board the Pedroia bandwagon.

Dustin Pedroia, after going 2-for-3 in the first time he has ever batted in the 6-hole: "I'll rake in that spot, too." #RedSox

Pedroia is 6 for 14 with 2 walks in the 4 games since 'the incident'.

Ahem...

6 for 10 since being moved to 6th in the batting order.

0 for 4 when leading off.

I'm over the incident, and I never felt like there were leadership problems. I do wonder if Showalter gets over anything. This will still be a heated series if Showalter has his way me thinks.

Showalter and Machado are made for each other.

What are the odds of a bench-clearing brawl tonight? I'm saying about 25%, which is large when compared with a 'normal' game.

25% for each game? That's like 100% for the series. LOL

LOL No.. that was tonight. It just remains the same @ 25% until it happens! Which, BTW, I think is inevitable sooner or later.

This reminds me of the old Yankees rivalry when they were just itchin' to get at one another. Tampa Bay too.

i hope barnes punches pedroia in the back of the head on "accident" if there is a brawl.....that is if Pedroia actually bothers to come out of the dugout to partake in it. he may just sit in the dugout screaming "its not me, its them" over and over again......

First pitch of the game. Strike down the middle, no swing. Both sides get a warning. :D

my bet tonight = no incident. We looked stupid coming out of Baltimore trying to make some kind of a statement. i have felt that there have been and still are leadership issues with this team.

Hunched over, rocking back and forth with his head in his tiny hands.
