Red Sox prospect Michael Chavis 2 dongs tonight -- exit velocities of 114 mph and 115 mph. Stanton territory. Hit dong last nite too.

It's worth noting Chavis allegedly played hurt all year last year. I'm not saying he's a guy again....but he's someone intriguing

That 2014 draft class has looked better and better as time has gone by.

26th pick Chavis has exploded this year.

33rd pick Kopech had issues early, but bounced back and helped us land Sale.

67th pick Travis battled injuries, but is now a highly ranked Sox prospect.

164th pick Ockimey is still a raw talent, but he has big upside.

Ben caught some flack for this draft, but now...

If Kopech is as good as they say he can be then every single other player could bust and it will still have been one of the better drafts of the past several years.

Very true.

Kopech is showing significant control issues but immense power numbers. I understand the rationale to make him a starter, as he'd be akin to Syndergaard with that kind of power, but if he doesn't harness it, he'll end up a closer. Regardless, Sale is Kopech's ceiling and he is a now player.

He's 21, no rush to turn into a gloried closer yet.

Devers 5 for 5 with a couple of clouts last night? Guess I need to make a trip down to see him.

We might be seeing him in Boston sooner than we expected.

It looks like this could be the year that Devers' numbers really start matching his raw talent. Still, I hope no one has the inkling to rush him to the major leagues the way Moncada was last year. He should be given all the time he needs.

A hint would be for him to be called up to AAA soon, but I trust Sox management to know to do the right thing.

One thing is almost certain, although Devers is not known for great D, even with the vast improvement last year, he's better than anyone we have now on D at 3rd.

Tavarez intrigues me not a great prospect but has been the best hitter in the system last year and this year.

Chris Hatfield‏ @SPChrisHatfield

Holy cow, per @BenBadler on Instagram, the Red Sox are promoting Bryan Mata to Low A Greenville.

Chris Hatfield‏ @SPChrisHatfield

We really like Mata, the @SoxProspects no. 15 prospect. At age 18, this is a VERY aggressive promotion.

Chris Hatfield‏ @SPChrisHatfield

Mata becomes youngest in SAL, 2nd youngest in Low A. He's younger than Espinoza and Raudes were in Greenville last year.

I don't know much about this kid, but all I hear is intriguing. Interested to see what he does in Greenville.

Keeping an eye on my boy in Portland, Jake Cosart, started slow, with a lot of walks, but starting to bring it. 15 innings with 23 BB's is not going to cut it. But has only allowed 6 hits. Jumped 2 leagues last year, and promoted to Portland this year. This is where you see if he has it to be future closer in Boston.

Last year 70 innings with 104 K's, he has the arm.

System is definitely performing better then I thought. It's not as barren as it seemed.

Devers has fallen off a bit. Same with Torres after his promotion. Might behoove some fans to pump the brakes on the kid to see if he can handle Pawtucket before Fenway.

Never.

Chavis hit his 15th HR last night- breaking a record for Salem. He has 50 RBI in 50 games (190 ABs).

Devers went 2 ofr 4 with an HR and a BB.

Swihart was 2 for 3 with a BB & HBP.

Allen Craig reached base 4 times.

Tzu-Wei Lin went 3 for 4 with an HR and 2 doubles.

Not sure what they are waiting for on promoting Devers and Chavis.

I'm sure they have their reasons, but I can't think of any.

I'm guessing further work on their defense.

One thing DD. Is willing to do is promote from Portland, so still guessing we see Devers before September.

Iguess the coaching at Portland may be better suited for bringing along Devers' defense, and with devers staying at Portland, I can see why they don't move Chavis up to Portland.

I'd just like to see, maybe for selfish reasons, how Devers and Chavis hit at a higher level. If the plan is to bring Devers up in September, or earlier if there is an injury, then why not let him face some older pitchers closer in skill level to MLB pitching?
