Maybe it's just my conspiracy theory, but the timing of it seems a little too convenient. I can't see Price getting a favorable reaction from the crowd tonight. And if Price pitches poorly, it will make things that much worse.

I think this might be the FO's way of trying to somewhat divert the matter. Give it some time to blow over. Give Price some time to get his head on straight. Or, he could very well be feeling the elbow 'bark' again. Who knows?

I love conspiracy theories. I just don't buy into this one. He's been damaged goods all year. It was only a matter of time until it flared up again.

I will actually be relieved if this is a conspiracy theory. That's actually the best case scenario here.

And if has the appearance of a phantom DL stint, the story will fester even longer and the crowd reaction will be even worse.

It's unfathomable that the Sox would willingly do this.

I am hoping it is just a way to get Price out of the limelight for a while. IMO, it wouldn't be a bad idea to give Price 10 days, not only to get away from the controversy, but also to rest his arm, whether it's needed or not.

I think having his next start be away from Fenway would be a good idea.

David Price had an MRI on his pitching elbow Thursday.

You may be right.

I agree. Delaying a start maybe, but there is no way they would DL him over this.

Source: Brian Johnson has been scratched from his scheduled start for Pawtucket today. Presumably, he's Price's replacement.

To clarify an earlier tweet...the fact that Johnson was scratched for PawSox start doesn't necessarily mean he starts for Red Sox tonight.

The Red Sox had an off-day yesterday, so there are different ways they can reconfigure rotation. Porcello is moving up a day to start Friday

you think it might be a phantom DL?

It is devastating news if he goes on DL again. Our offense needs help and losing Price on top of that could send us into a tailspin.

The vortex of suck has already commenced. It should touch down this week in the area of Fenway Park.

We still have two more years in our window! Hooray!!!!!

Source: Red Sox' Brian Johnson in town to see team doctor, shoulder is acting up again but likely will not land on DL.

Wed have to find a way to get him on the 40 man but a guy who is earning a chance right now is Jalen Beeks.

I just have to find a cliff up here to launch myself over. I can't take it anymore. Whatever shall I do? LOL

Could not agree more. He does not have a put away pitch, but he gets hitters out.

f*** David Price

There, I said it. Never lived up to his contract, he could never be counted on for consistent production and now the Eck thing which was embarrassing and ridiculous. And yes I DO think that incident was important.

Assuming no SP trade, have to think Beeks has a good shot to make his debut on Tuesday. Fister's been terrible, Johnson shoulder issues.

It'd be interesting to see how a high contact guy like Beeks would do if given a chance. Lefties have been mashing him in PAW though.

After reading more opinions on the matter, I am recanting my conspiracy theory opinion and agreeing that the elbow inflammation is indeed the reason for the DL stint. Either way, it's still not good, but maybe it's a minor thing and Price just needs to skip a couple of starts.

The timing is suspicious, so it was easy to jump to the conclusion.

Price opting out after next year is the best-case scenario for everyone involved at this point, and fooling around with fake injuries would only hurt that cause further. Both Price and the team should know this.

We need Price to be right for the remainder of the season. I hope he can be that pitcher for us. I don't like his recent behavior, but unlike a few people, I won't be pulling for him to get shelled or for the team to lose. I certainly would never wish injury upon a player.

Exactly.

Nothing will win over the crowd and the media faster than good performances and winning. In an ideal situation, Price would pitch like the ace we thought we were getting. If he can do that, much of this controversy would go away.

The media is gone. He attacked 2-3 of their own. He could put up Pedro numbers and they will still be on him. When it comes to criticism, the only thing more thinskinned than the players is the media.

Today I entertained a foolish daydream whereby we send Price to the Dodgers in a three-team deal that nets us Gray. We pay most of his remaining contract unless he opts out. Would never happen of course, but it would be money well spent (and I know Gray has his own injury history).

tbh, not sure I can blame them.

I would replace Price with B.Johnson. It sounds like the Red Sox are gong with Fister.

I think the Red Sox could win a championship without Price but they would need guys like Rodriquez and Porcello to step up. In the playoffs, the Red Sox might need a Madison Bumgarner-like performance from Chris Sale, but Sale might have that in him. . . .

OTOH, when they write crap like this, I'm not sure I blame the players:

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/columnists/2017/07/borges_let_the_boos_rain_down_on_phony_david_price_tonight?utm_campaign=bostonherald_trending_stories&utm_source=bostonherald&utm_medium=trending_stories

Yes, Eck was wronged. There is no defending what Price did. But if it was such a big story, why did it take a month to surface? And who is feeding the flames now?

Both sides need to grow up.

BTW, I loved the comment after article citing Borges being fired from the Globe for plagiarism a decade ago. (Edit - comment appears to have been removed. Too bad, it was a link to an article about the firing).

I posted last week that we should move him before he goes down. I knew this was coming, and nothing would surprise me. I believe he is really hurt, but not 100% in on it. Like I said before, it's not going to end good for him in Boston..

I get the biggest kick out of the people here who post that this story represents such an egregious affront to mankind. I like Eck but I don't know him. I don't know Price either. This is between them. They are big boys. If Price is as good a teammate as players say that he is then what about it? We keep Eck and let Price go? I don't like the media in general and they are primarily responsible for this silly story gathering steam.
