My thoughts exactly. 5th starter, shmh. I'd be quite happy with our 1 through 4 If Price is indeed healthy the rest of the way.

Porcello is getting bombed tonight and Pomeranz wasn't effective in his last. Outside of Sale, E-Rod and Kimbrel our rotation and relief has looked sick indeed. My view of Price is that at this point in his career he is not much better than and 3rd or 4th starter. We haven't seen him in action as yet so it is hard to know he will return to acceptable form or not. I think you are being optimistic.

The Rays have a history of hitting Porcello pretty well. Yeah, I would consider Pom out 5th SP. Hence, I love our 1-4. I might be being optimistic on Price, but I'm going by his overall track record, which is fair for me to go by I think.

For those who'd rather listen to Price pitch than watch Pom pitch;)

Overall record for a pitcher with a lot of innings may not be the best view of present and future capability. The track usually is downward in velocity and effectiveness. If he can be reasonably effective as a #3 starter and eat a lot of innings he will help the team. Doing that is by no means certain for a guy coming back from arm issues. He is our $30 mil a year man and will be for years to coe so I hope he can still be effective.

Thanks.

That last link doesn't seem to work, but you can get there from the first link under 'Other Links' > MiLB Gameday Audio. I'm not trying to advertise for Tunein Radio, but I just put the app on my phone to try it out. I X'd out of the premium promotion screen and it looks ready to go for today.

Do we skip Pom if it rains out today? Monday is day off (presumably no need for our #5). Go directly back to E Rod, Porcello and Sale? Why not? I'd skip every chance I get our #4/#5.

I would for sure. i would think that most teams would. As for our team, what do you think? think JF will give us the old - extra rest - keeping them fresh- don't want to over work anyone this early - it's a long season don't get concerned about outcomes right now - ... speeches?

Well, they seem to have been treating Price's injury with kid gloves (and that's fine by me). Not sure I'd read too much into his timetable or how long it's taken for him to come back. We do have an Ace in Sale, so I think the Sox have taken advantage of that, I'll assume. Am I totally certain Price will come back and be our 2nd Ace or something close to that? No. But I'd say I'm around 80% confident he could.

If Price comes back and is healthy, he still will pitch the equivalent of what should be a regular season's work. Assuming the Sox get to the second season - which really does seem to add enough innings to seem like a mini second season.

E-Rod loves day games.

Entering the season - there was a reasonable (30% or so) probability Rodriguez would end up this team's 2nd best starter - so far so good.

Before today's game, Pom is averaging slightly over 5 IP and 95 pitches. He's becoming irritating to watch.

All slow workers are irritating.

Rotation:

Sale

Porcello

Price (soon)

E-Rod

is really good.

But we got the bottom of the barrel juggernaut of an offense that scares nobody.

it is a damn good thing that we made the trade for Kimbrel. it at least gives us a chance when Sale pitches and when somone else might be having a good day.

nothing that a few balls finding gaps won't fix. Generating tons of baserunners - not giving away outs. Essentially a middle of the pack offense with the underlying performance of a much better one, Really poor luck as much as anything right now.

Even if they are a middle of the pack offense, which currently they are bottom of the pack, DD should have made some moves to keep the offense from falling from the top of the pack to the middle.

I think he felt a full season from Beni, and a platoon of Moreland and Young would be enough. So far, we seem to be lacking, but the season is long, and a few players have yet to warm up.

I hope this isn't like 2014 or 2015 where nearly everyone seemed to have an "off year" at the same time.

If just JBJ was hitting like 2016, we might not be in such bad shape.

In 2015, the Red Sox finished 4th in runs. I would kill for that this year. The problem isn't too many off years with this bunch. With this bunch, we need no off years imo to make up for losing Ortiz.

This 4 hour ESPN love affair with Jeter is disgusting. Yes, it is a boring game for Yankee fans, but it seem like they have talked about Jeter for 3 1/2 of the 4 hours. Enough already. Even when they talk about the players on the field like Aaron Judge, they mention how much his demeanor reminds people of Jeter.

Things haven't worked out so far, but maybe with the return of Price, we can start playing much better than .500 ball. Of cource, Price alone cannot do it by himself. The offense will have to improve.

I do think it wasn't far- fetched to think the addition of Sale, Moreland and Thornburg along with more games from Beni and C Smith, it would be enough to make up for the loss of Papi... on paper, anyways.

I still think we should be better than a .500 team, even without Price, Smith, Thornburg & Wright.

And EE went for cheap.

By accident I discovered the ESPN broadcast of the Skanks game tonight. Those three dufuses would not stop bag lapping Jeter. It was nauseating.

This was compounded by being forced to listen to Miss Softball display her tremendous repertoire of baseball catch ( no pun intended ) phrases to dupe the masses into believing that she knows anything of which she speaks. It was almost as embarrassing as listening to Dennis Miller do color for Monday Night Football.

At least the Yankees lost. The fact that Odd Job got torched was a bonus.

I think DD jumped the gun signing Moreland, not expecting EE to end up signing the contract that he signed. It was a big miscalculation.

She adds nothing to the broadcast except to stroke Boone's ego. At one point desperately looking to say something to add value to the broadcast she commented on Starling Castro fouling off a 3-1 pitch that was well off the outside edge of the plate. She said that showed his ability to spoil pitches that are pitcher's pitchers and gave him kudos for being able to go outside of the zone to do that. She had no idea that with less than 2 strikes there is no need to spoil a pitch and that Castro had cost himself a base on balls in a game where they needed lot of base runners because they were down several runs. She replaced Schilling who could analyze pitching with the best of them. There isn't an ounce of insight among the three announcers. Thank goodness Boone is not doing that stupid bit on imitating player's swings. That was embarrassing.
