My take on the Yankees is that they have an excellent lineup , strong bench, outstanding bullpen and a well stocked farm system. The starting pitching is somewhat questionable. The success of the rotation will either make or break their season. And is Cashman willing to part with prospects if pitching help is needed ?

Banged his elbow against the wall and whacked his ulnar nerve. He's been having some numbness since. It's good enough to hit, but throwing is problematic

He has always had a noodle arm.

DFA Layne, call up Bryan Mitchell or Ben Heller. I'd like to see Judge and Castro get a rest tonight.

LF: Gardner

RF: Hicks

C: Sanchez

CF: Ellsbury

1B: Carter

3B: Headley

SS: DiDi

2B: Torreyes

P: Tanaka

Tuesday I'd like to see Torreyes as SS with Didi getting a rest and Hicks sitting down for a game.

Fun to watch these guys right now for sure. I hope Tanaka can go at least 7 tonight.

You're a sexist if you point out how terrible of an announcer Mendoza is.

Listening to her announce reminds me of watching the game with my girlfriend.

Getting back to the team, we need to stop talking about a lack of SP. Aside from Sabathia, our starting pitching has been solid. The fact that our ERA is bolstered by Severino, Montgomery and Pineda and pulled up by Tanaka and Fat Sab is interesting. Regardless, Severino looks like an ace in the making. Montgomery looks like a young Pettitte. Pineda finally has put it together in his walk year. Tanaka is Tanaka. I think Fat Sabby is likely headed for the pine. Our pen is death, even a morning after our best guy blows it. I think our biggest question mark is turning into a strength. Our lineup is deep. Our defense is good. Our team speed is great. Our offense is both powerful and consistent. We have 4 true outfielders with a top prospect behind them. Our infield sans 1b has been excellent. Our C, even with Sanchez out, has been a position of strength. The fact that we are in first with almost no contribution from Didi, Sanchez or Bird is amazing. And the fact that we have reinforcements on the way either via trade or promotion makes this even more exciting. I love this team right now.

It's not sexist. She brings literally nothing to the broadcast. She makes me long for the days of Joe Morgan

No, it is not sexist to voice objection to inferior performance from an announcer or color "person".

I think that she sucks. Plain and simple.

I do not and will not long for the days of Joe Morgan, however.

I think that he too, blew goats.

Was I being sexist then?

yeah. michael kay is better than her. right?

perhaps we can just listen to paul oneill tell us all over and over how he never saw a 3rd strike against him or maybe ken singleton can spend 4 innings every night talking about how great things were playing baseball before free agency.

I was being facetious. She sucks and almost everyone who I've heard that has an opinion about her also thinks that she sucks. Not because she's a woman, because she sucks at announcing. But society will call you a sexist if you say so. End of point.

As for Michael Kay, not even his mother likes listening to him speak. I have to disagree with you on Paul O'Neill though, he's a bit of a dolt but at least he's entertaining.

I'd happily take Michael Kay over Gary Thorne any day

Yup!

I'm even at the point where I'd take Hawk Harrelson over Thorne, and I never thought I'd dislike any announcer more than I dislike Hawk.

As far as Mendoza goes, I agree that she's not very good. However, I've heard a lot worse.

@Harmony - The Mariners guy is bad too. Annoying.

I'm not sure I've ever heard Thorne but if he's worse than Hawk, I don't want to.

Yankees bludgeon the key piece of the Chapman trade. Tanaka got out of a few jams and gave up an uncharacteristic amount of hits. He wasn't dominant, but he also wasn't giving up a lot of hard contact after about the 2nd inning (prior to Votto's HR).

Our offense continues to roll. Aaron Hicks is a bad man. Holliday has been an asset. Sanchez got rolling. This team can beat you in a number of ways. 6 in a row!

We could play .500 ball for the rest of the year and still finish with 87 wins, which would likely be good enough for a WC spot. Obviously not thinking WC at this point in time, but it's pretty wild how well they've set themselves up for the remainder of the season. Polar opposite of last year.

Exactly. Its crazy what happens when you play your kids? Sometimes they suck and other times they flourish.

The insane thing is that we arrived early. Our farm system is stocked with practically everything one could need. We have the stash to make deals without harming our system or make major blockbusters as well.

Maybe we need some new analytic metric system to determine the value of announcers. WAM - Wins Above Morgan? It is traditional for Sox fans to bash other team's and national announcers. We have that ingrained in us. To be honest, Dave O'Brien is nothing to write home about.

I am sure that I am biased when it comes to our announcers. Much of my dislike for other teams' announcers comes from the fact that they are pulling for the other team! We can't have that! ;)

That said, there are some really bad ones out there. At the same time, there are some pretty good ones too. The Twins crew that I had to listen to in the last series was not bad at all.

The Yankees are playing over their heads. I've said that many times. That said, even when they come back down to earth, they have set themselves up nicely for a playoff berth.
