None of Dombrowski's moves would have been possible if not for Cherington.

Thank you Ben.

He also would not have needed to sign Price, because we would still have Lester, but for Bumbling Ben.

I guess I am the only one who is not all warm and fuzzy about this deal.

Dombrowski is taking the Sox down the same crappy farm system path that he took the Tigers down.

Yes, our team got better for the short term. It got a lot worse for the long term.

I just can't agree with the 'win now' philosophy.

That said, welcome aboard Sale. I am happy (I think) to have you on my team.

To be fair, that is on Lucchino. He is the guy who made the insulting lowball offer to Lester. Not a fan of Cherington, but he wasn't the guy who blew the Lester deal.

You are not the only one. I am also ambivalent about it. I would have preferred other prospect than Moncada and Kopech.

But then you wouldn't get him. This is a top 5 pitcher at age 27 who makes around what Buchholz makes and we have him for 3 seasons. He wasn't going to be had for some lottery tickets. It was going to take a bue chip can't miss player in return.

And I'm not even sure Moncada is a can't miss player. Guys who cannot hit big league breaking balls can take some serious time to develop. Look at Cespedes. He was good in Oakland, but it took him 4-5 years to master major league breaking balls and reach his potential

True. I think the Sox FO still viewed Moncada as farther off than some ppl might think despite his call-up.

His call up was just a cup of coffee that ended quickly when it became apparent that he could be trusted to even run the bases.

I am nervous about the trade with the object of winning now. Trading away 4 talented prospects for an ACE could help us in the short term provided Sale can hold together for a couple of seasons. He has a lot of innings on him during the last 5 years and the deal would look bad should he get injured this year. Meanwhile, we gave away a potential top of the rotation type guy and a potential star position player along with a good young outfield prospect and another quality pitching prospect.

DD made a decision to use our minor league riches to try to win now. Hope for our sake it doesn't backfire as the risk is seemingly high. Some of you would say no risk no reward. We shall see.

I don't get the anti "win now" thinking.

I understand that we traded away some promising talent.

This team is pretty stacked to win now with the young guys under control for a few more years.

If the Sox don't go for it now, when should they go for it? Why wait? And for what?

The idea is to win. I don't believe winning now and winning in the future have to be mutually exclusive.

If Betts, Bogaerts, Bradley, or Benintendi, were Traded then I would be angry. Your Farm is in the Majors, and proven Major Leaguers, what Minor Leaguer are you 100% sure they will make an impact in the Majors?

Minor Leaguers never a sure thing. Had to do it. Cant believe any Sox Fan doesn't like this Trade.

Kept E-Rod, Swihart, Betts, Benintendi, Bogaerts, and Bradley, Vazguez, Travis, Groome and got an #1 Starter with these kids. Wow!

Now we are with the Cubs as far as Major League talent. And didn't give up a #1 pick in the Draft, one good Draft your back in the race again. You got 3 more before Sales contract run out. And its one of the best Team friendly contracts there is, makes as much as Buchholz this year.

Well, trading away a dozen prospects in a year certainly lessens the chances of winning once the three years runs out on Sale & Kimbrel.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I haven't posted in quite a long time but this certainly warranted it!!!!! This is a CRAZY good deal!!! I was as high on Moncada as others......loved his speed a TON and his power potential but he just seemed to have too many question marks in terms of consistency at the ML level at the plate and in the field. I actually hate to see Kopeck go because young fireballers like him are not a dime a dozen........but to get a REAL TOR starter......it's an absolute no brainer.

When I saw the deal originally I thought that one of Bogey, JBJ, Betts or Benni would have been included.......in which case I would have been sad...... But to keep that young core intact is absolutely CRAZY awesome!!!!!!

The amazing thing is......Price is our 3rd starter!!!! He's an ace on 3/4 of the clubs out there!! HAHA!!!!

Sale, Porcello, Price, Erod, Pom???? with Wright and Buch as 6th starters and spot starters??? Crazy good. In all honesty though, I actually would be shocked if they broke camp with Wright,Buch and Pom on the squad. I can see once of them being traded for some quality BP help or depth in the IF.

I agree 100%! Best post ever!! Thanks for your contributions KingFace!!!! Please stick around more and give us all some VERY MUCH needed wisdom!!!!!! You're a pretty handsome guy too.......just saying'.

There will be other prospects coming. And your statement is just your opinion. It doesn't merit a "certainly."

If you have a chance for Sale without giving up any of the B's you do it. They are the Red Sox . They should balance both a good farm system and a big payroll. That includes going over the tax for the right player. IMO
Posted
Price and Sale are nice, but when are the Sox going to go the cheaper route and develop an ace from within?
In my 50 years of following them, they have developed 2 -- Clemens and Lester.

I am glad that I wasn't eating anything when I read this.

Lol. Well . They picked up his opt.

Good or Bad development was not required. Lol. I knew I was getting hammered for that. I Can handle it. Trust me. Lol

How many teams have fared much better? Developing TOTR potential is the hardest and rarest thing in this game.

We could go around in circles all day with this argument. But farm systems are there to supplement the club, and sometimes that means trading from where you're strong for where you're weak.

Overall, I think the Sox have done pretty damn well to assemble this team.

That's why you trade away potentially good position talent for an ace pitcher under control.
