I have no idea how the Red Sox pulled this off without trading Eduardo Rodriguez - you'd think the ChiSox would want some major league help coming back. Moncada could be that help - but it is an open question - though he is an excellent prospect.

Great trade as it stands; however, I have given up on JBJ and would have prefered he be in there rather than Mancada.

I was just thinking to myself earlier that if we could do it for Moncada and some lesser pieces, I'd be pretty tempted, but every rumor or estimate seemed to include guys like Bradley, Rodriguez, etc., which would have felt like robbing Peter to pay Paul to me.

 

They are obviously putting a lot of eggs in the Sandoval (2017 3B), Devers (3B of the future), and Groome (last SP prospect of note) baskets, but man does our roster look stacked now.

People really think we traded Espinoza for Pomeranz just so we could put him in the bullpen, though? Would not surprise me to see him or Buchholz shipped out now and possibly Wright to the bullpen in the swingman role he was intended to fill last year.

We could use ERod and another player to get back a couple more prospects to replenish the system. We have too many MLB starters now. And Four LHP...Buch could be salary relief now.

I dont think any of the last 4 have surefire spots in the rotation. I imagine we trade at least one of them and let the remaining 3 battle it out for the final 2 spots with the odd man out going to the BP. I think of Buch, E-Rod, Pomeranz and Wright, E-Rod probably has the most value in a trade and could get us a pretty nice piece to fill out the roster.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I haven't posted in quite a long time but this certainly warranted it!!!!! This is a CRAZY good deal!!! I was as high on Moncada as others......loved his speed a TON and his power potential but he just seemed to have too many question marks in terms of consistency at the ML level at the plate and in the field. I actually hate to see Kopeck go because young fireballers like him are not a dime a dozen........but to get a REAL TOR starter......it's an absolute no brainer.

 

When I saw the deal originally I thought that one of Bogey, JBJ, Betts or Benni would have been included.......in which case I would have been sad...... But to keep that young core intact is absolutely CRAZY awesome!!!!!!

 

The amazing thing is......Price is our 3rd starter!!!! He's an ace on 3/4 of the clubs out there!! HAHA!!!!

 

Sale, Porcello, Price, Erod, Pom???? with Wright and Buch as 6th starters and spot starters??? Crazy good. In all honesty though, I actually would be shocked if they broke camp with Wright,Buch and Pom on the squad. I can see once of them being traded for some quality BP help or depth in the IF.

Yes, they are. He's ranked the #1 prospect in baseball for a reason. If you don't get the #1 ranked prospect to headline a deal for an ACE who do you get? They also got a pitcher who has TOTRS potential as well. They also got a toolsy CF prospect and a lower level pitcher who throws in the high 90's and has touched 100 (I'm 99% of this unless I'm thinking of someone else)

 

It's a really good deal for both teams.
