IF everything holds up, Orioles would be 1 game up on Toronto and 1 1/2 up on Detroit. O's and Jays have 2 games left; if Detroit is ahead or behind the second wild card spot by 1/2 game on Sunday night they will have to play a make-up game with Cleveland on Monday

Wow that's wild. Detroit will likely sweep the Braves if Jays don't win tonight their future may be in serious jeopardy

Before he hit the RBI single, I asked my son how a guy can retire after putting up 37 HRs and 125 RBI. H e still has a lot in the tank.

Absolutely !! He's definitely going out on top and on fire. Ugh I still think he's retiring too early but he might regret it if he came back another year and sucked

I don't see that at all. He's just frustrated with the offense as of late which is understandable. Yes they had a long road trip and yes they're likely tired but with how slow the offense is starting games lately and going into the playoffs it's a concern. ..... He's frustrated and at the end of the day it's a bit worry some especially playing a team like Texas who scores early and often.

With that said this is a crazy inning

You will note he has disappeared from posting since the Sox took the lead.

Lol fair point I can be guilty of this at times too. I'm glad they have come alive though .

Also is it just me or does there seem to be a ridiculous amount of Jays fans there tonight

Kimbrel with the walks again!

Didn't see it....... but isn't that always the story with him.

I like him closing the 9th. But other bad ass closers could come in with a couple people on and shut the door in the 8th. Kimbrel is the least versatile closer you can have...... and it's a huge detriment in the playoffs......

he also gives me a heart attack....

Same old same old. Two BB's, 1 WP but "he got the job done". Maybe his NOT getting the job done would be the best thing that could happen to this team in the long run.

ahaha...... I think your argument is getting stronger every outing......... hell, I'd like to see Koji take the roll, I love that guy. But....... I almost think the 8th inning is more important than the ninth......

Seriously....... I think you guys saying put your bat on your shoulder against Kimbrel may be right....... I had been thinking that also.....

Hanley with a nice pop up grab...

I'm a Bill James disciple and James has always said that the best reliever shouldn't necessarily pitch the 9th. He should be used in spot situations to get important outs whether it's the 7th, 8th, or 9th.

Of course I wouldn't want to bring OUR closer in during any situation with people on base because he can't be trusted to not walk people. If he's going to be the closer he NEEDS to start with a clean inning and that limits the Red Sox as to who else has to be used in the high leverage situations. Fortunately Zeigler and others have been up to the task, leaving Kimbrel to pick up the "all important" save even though someone else most likely saved the win.

He got robber on the Tolowiscki call for the walk....

He did. But not on the other three ball calls that got him into that mess to begin with. Those were balls.

Just roughly a month or so ago, I was sure the Jays would win the division and that we'd be fighting for one of the wildcard spots. Now the Jays are fighting for their playoff lives. How quickly things can change in this game.

Hanley has made some nice plays on popups tonight. He has come a long way from Spring Training in that regard.

Basically the only inning I've watched this week was the 7th, and what a beautiful inning it was to watch. I thought PB was going to start crying he got so excited.

I'm guilty too. I was mad as hell last night, then thrilled by the comeback, then somewhat frustrated with the bullpen even though they gave up no runs. I think last night's was a pretty important win for the Sox because I thought they were headed for six losses to end the season.

52 innings, 29 BB's, 1.096 WHIP

Let's just say that it looks a lot better in Baseball Reference than it does on the field.

He's been giving up an inordinate number of walks lately, there's no question about that.
