The Porcello haters. No one hates me.

Wait a minute....... you were a Porcello hater. Who is a Porcello hater on this board.........? Not now..... not after this magic turn around he has had. How can you dislike the guy........ he's amazing this year......... he can come at a batter with any angle and any spin and works fast.......... there shouldn't be one Sox fan that is a Porcello hater this year....

I lost betting on Porcello last year.

......... Maybe I was thinking of myself then......

weren't you one of the over over 4.0 and only a number 4 or 5 slot people?

oh well....... what does it matter........ the guy is on this year. After last year I had thought if he was a 4 slotter we were doing well..... I never envisioned this........... he's my favorite pitcher to watch now on this team......... he has balls and comes at hitters now....

I did think that he was a 4/5, but that doesn't make me a Porcello hater. He has always been a solid 200 inning 4 ERA guy. A valuable rotation guy -- just not a star. This season he has been a star. I hope it continues.

I just want to know what happened to all of those people who were complaining about the extension he got "before he even throws a pitch in a Red Sox uniform".

I would have been one of them but honestly was reluctant to second guess the FO. I certainly never expected Porcello to be this good.

Oh, they'll still tell you we should have waited, and extended him for less after his value went down.

That's 4 out of 5 games Gausman hasn't been scored on.

I whined a lot during the game, but I have to say that fastball, which he used a lot, gave everyone fits. Then he would throw a slider in the dirt for the 3d strike. The worst time was when we had men on 1st and 3d and Ramirez K'd on 3 pitches. Our 2, 3, and 4 hitters were hitless. I'm not sure, but I think Bogaerts hit the ball hard twice but Machado made solid plays on both of them. Also interesting to me: we have 5 righties in the lineup and they had 3 of the 4 hits/singles.

i blame JF for this loss. he should have had Kimbrell in to face Trumbo in the top of the 2nd. any real manager would have known that porc didnt have his good stuff and that was the most important AB of the game.....

I always liked Farrell. Great game tactician.

Honestly, me neither. And I'm prepared to call ******** on any poster - or maybe even anyone in the FO - who says he thought Porcillo would win 20+ in 2016.

How many games he wins is irrelevant, as that is team-dependent.

Gausman has reverse splits; righties hit him better, and that has been the case his whole time in the big leagues. The two seamer/split finger that goes down and away from lefities is downright nasty. If he adds a breaking pitch he can throw to righties, he could become a perennial Cy Yong candidate type pitcher.

If you look at Gausman overall this year, he has pitched better than his 8-10 record. 3.43 ERA. He's been tagged for 5 losses when where he has given up 3 or fewer runs (4 where he has given up 2 or less). He's the guy the O's aren't scoring for this season.

He was the #4 overall pick in 2012; there's a lot of talent there, and he appears to have started to harness it.

Well, to a point. Wins isn't the be-all, end-all but I'll take a pitcher with 20 wins over another pitcher with 10 wins and take my chances.

I did not expect him to pitch quite as well as he is pitching this year, but I did think at the time that we signed him that he would improve a little over his 2014 season in 2015 and beyond. I supported the early extension all the way, and even after a terrible season last year, I thought the extension was a good move and that I'd do it all over again if I had the chance.

Even if Porcello craps out for the remaining 3 years of his extension, it was still a good move to make at the time.
