Manfred's idea to speed up games - limit relief pitching changes

Don't like it. Something like that is dictating too much about the in-game decisions and warping the flow and demands of games. It's also going to probably lead to a rash of fake injuries so they can get someone else in there before whenever the rules say a change can be made.

Every conference with a pitcher even those only by the catcher or infielders should count as one of the 2 visits. I am sick of catchers making numerous trips to the mound to discuss signals etc.

Hate it.

To Kimmi:

before trashing replay, try giving the managers 15 sec to decide if they're challenging.

This hemming and hawing while some coach eyeballs the play is ridiculous.

Well, I don't like replay period. I want it trashed regardless of the effect it has on the length of the game. But I can agree with your point about giving managers a time limit to decide. They should also limit the actual review to 45 seconds.

In the Angels game 2 nights ago, a challenged call easily took 10 minutes, probably closer to 15 minutes. Scioscia 'argued' with the umps for a good while before they finally agreed to review the play. The review itself took over 6 minutes. Then after the call on the field was upheld, the umps took more time to explain the ruling to Scioscia. Ridiculous.

Yup, that is way too much time wasted.

Baseball games don't need a damn time limit. I can't remember ever walking out of a ballpark thinking the game went too long.

Next thing you know they'll want to cut down on extra inning games. Do it like hockey does -after 10 innings, if you're still tied, the game is decided by a mini-home run derby. Now that's entertainment!

Well, at least with replay the intention is to get the calls right.

But this is a whole separate discussion that deserves its own thread. :)

LOL That's actually an interesting thought about the 'sudden death' HR Derby.

But I agree 100%. Baseball does not need a time limit. There are so many discussions about games being too long, but I've never had a problem with it.

I completely agree. I don't think replay should be used to split hairs on guys coming off the base by 1/2 an inch. The plays on the bases are almost always called correctly by the umpires. If the call looks wrong to the managers naked eye, that is when he should challenge. This waiting for video confirmation before a challenge wastes time unnecessarily. Give the manager 10 seconds to challenge so they don't have the time to be communicating with a video booth. Replay should be used to correct the obviously wrong calls -- not too split hairs.

I respectfully disagree. Safe is safe and out is out. Pedroia was out on the steal attempt last night. Ump got it wrong, replay fixed it-quickly, because it was obvious.

and if the managers go back to coming out of the dugout to "stall" while the guys in the clubhouse check the replays the Umpire should start the 10 second clock the second he steps onto the field.

The 10 seconds should start to run from the conclusion of the play whether or not the manager comes out of the dugout.

Ah hell, they should just show porn clips while the replay is being reviewed. People get bored sitting on their hands, I get it, but there are remedies for these things.

that's good with me. if there is this new 10 second rule put in place would you be ok with each team having 2 reviews per game? (and a 3rd if one of the 2 is overturned).....
