Absolutely no run support ugh

There comes a point when one of the highest paid pitchers in baseball needs to start earning that money and pitching like he was expected to... An Ace should be able to win a 1-0 game against one of the worst offenses in baseball, I mean, at least once maybe?

This team can't afford to lose to crappy teams. Gotta take advantage. And there goes the lead... Price is way off tonight.

Edit: I won't lie, I'm still frustrated with Price. It's the middle of July and we are still waiting for that "Ah, now THERE is a $30 million pitcher" performance... I want a dominant start already. Weak sauce.

So his last start before the ASB wasn't good enough?

They got cocky with Lester, plain and simple. They thought they shat rainbows and unicorns when they offered him a terrible contract prior to 2014 after winning an improbable and insanely lucky title in 2013. That destroyed the trust. Then the trade happened, which moved him from Boston and destroyed any lingering thoughts of coming back. Then they lowballed him again in free agency. They tried to right the wrong with Price, but Price is not the kind of guy mentally to handle the pressure in the bean

This offense needs to wake up now and make this interesting.

Agreed. Most of the runs this series have been on homers, almost no stringing hits together.

Fair enough. But he needs to dominate in the playoffs. His 5+ ERA in October is just... well... What the hell is that... Until he proves it's just bad luck small sample size, he's going to be defined as a good regular season pitcher who can't handle the pressure and good lineups in October. The regular season means jack if you can't win when it matters.

I actually completely agree with this. Although Price has been good this year he hasn't been absolutely amazing and he is known for playoff failure. Until proven otherwise this year I completely agree with Price. He isn't exactly doing anything to make me think this year in the playoffs will be any different.....

Then again.... we have to make the playoffs still... this game sucks so far

He has a long way to go to be in a class with Curt Schilling or Josh Beckett. That is for sure

He can go 8 innings and give up 3 runs but he's expected to do better then that. He has these blow ups

Yep. I'll admit I forgot about the great game against TB, but then he follows it up with this trash. At least the bullpen is rested from the AS break...

No offense tonight

Becoming an all too familiar theme with Price on the mound. Since June 1, the Sox have scored 2, 1, 2, 2, 8 (the game at Texas that Price was absolutely brutal in), 0, 2 and 4 (with 1 tonight). Even Kershaw would have trouble winning a lot of games with support like that.

Edit- career wise Kershaw is 22-43 when the Dodgers have provided him 0-2 runs. Baumgarner is 10-48 for the Giants.

IMO Price needs to pitch inside more (not just tonight). Teams are sitting on everything being away.

You might have a good point there.

This guy has given up a ton of hits tonight. He needs to get his act together

Yup against the Yankees with a bad offense as well..... not sure about Price at all.....

Price gave up 3 runs in 5 2/3 innings. It's time to open a vein.

The only concern that I have about his outing is that he had only one k.

He wasn't atrocious but far from good... the Yankees are not a very good team so it's concerning. :(

It's just the continuing theme. It's the Yankees and it's not being able to hold a lead. A lack of run support also goes with the territory being the #1 starter. You are generally lined-up against the other teams best pitcher, so you need to be able to win a low scoring game. #1 pitchers are paid to dominate and win low-scoring games, not just put up quality starts (QS are great for the middle/back end of the rotation, but a 4.5 ERA is not doing your job at the top...) Just like the top corners in the NFL are paid to shutdown the top receivers. Yep, their job is tougher than the #2 or slot corners facing lesser competition, but that's why they are paid the big bucks...

As for his stuff, his command was definitely off and his curve was flat. That is a bit of a concern.

700, we don't strike out much. 4th lowest in the majors. But we also don't score much at all. 23rd in baseball. Also 23rd in BA and 23rd in OBP. Tonight, we were 11 for 28 vs Price with a walk and 3 doubles. Our line vs Price today was .392/.413/.500. We have murdered him all season.
