Have they launched Buchholz into the Gulf with a catapult yet? Asking for a friend.

Well they are in Florida next, they can strap him to Cape Canaveral and we never see him again.

Not sure I agree dumping Buchholz is a no-brainer. He was actually pretty good innings 2 thru 5. And the first inning was mostly a bunch of singles. The Sox also hit the ball hard in the first inning, but right at someone. I think Buch gets into trouble when he assumes he can get by on his fastball, especially in the first inning. When he mixed up his pitches, he was fine. The other problem is more serious and might merit letting him go: control. He gave up 5 walks. Bad as Buchholz has been this season, he is better than the alternatives we have seen so far.

In response to remarks like this throughout the years about pitchers, I answer with a question. What do you call a pitcher that has only one bad inning (3-5 runs) each game? A bad pitcher.

Why are people still trying to sugarcoat the fact that Buchholz f***ing sucks?

Nah, he doesn't suck.

He is an enigma.

Because the alternatives are not much better.

And most fans would rather see him try to earn that 13 mil, instead of sitting on the bench.

Yeah, the solution is to keep rolling Buchholz and pick your #5 turd twice each time through through the rotation and hope for the best. We can continue to watch Buch and the the turd of the week keep taking an ax to games. That sounds like a recipe for fun and success.

Buchh has to go to the Pen. He is not a SP anymore.

Clay gets one more start. If he stinks again, he should be done for the year as a starter.

Also, I need to start the game thread for his next start (provided we do not win the game prior to that). There's just too much negative Clay mojo from the rest of you guys.

But what if HE ONLY HAS ONE BAD INNING? Or just ONE BAD PITCH? I hope you would give weight to the overall numbers and just move on from him after another bad outing.

Note: snark not directed at you, Kimmi.

Anything. Even Elias.

Right. Elias. The FO has not hesitated to bench nonperformers this year, including Buchholz (who actually wasn't bench but went to the bullpen, which pissed him off) and Buch came back only because the other options, including Elias, were/are demonstrably worse.

First off, let me clarify my stance on Clay. I did not not say, nor did I mean to imply, that Clay had a decent outing last night. I have not really defended Clay's pitching this season, outside of defending one outing where I said that he did not pitch as poorly as most of you made it out to be. I have defended picking up his option last offseason, and I stand by that. I have not defended his overall body of work this season. He has pretty much stunk.

If we had someone waiting in the wings that we know would pitch better than Clay, then I might be willing to move on from him, but we don't. I know many of you would rather see anyone else besides Clay. I still think Clay has more talent than most of the other options that we currently have. I also have way more patience with struggling players than most people have. I'm willing to give him one more start.

Don't look now, but O'Sullivan was named the International League Pitcher of the Week.

Does he get another chance?

5.1 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 12 (!) baserunners.

At this point, why not?

You want a bad start? Check out ERod tonight. 9 runs, 2 dingers. 11 hits in 2.2 innings.

You are so obsessed with condemning Buch you can't see the forest for the trees. Right now he is the Sox 4th best starter.

Despite popular opinon, it can get worse than 5.1 IP, 5 R (4 ER).

And I'm not even referring to last night's diaster. How about 2.1 IP, 6 ER 12 hits from the highest paid pitcher in baseball?

Which is why it is a complete s*** show right now. Buchholz shouldn't be starting for any MLB team right now. The problem is that the Sox have struggled year in and year out to develop young pitching. Now the rotation is: highest paid FA from last offseason, downgrade from Lester, flash in the pan knuckleballer, hollowed out shell of Buchholz and trash bag of AAAA starters trying to earn a 5th spot.

Is Buchholz the only problem in this rotation? No, and I've never said he was.

All along I've stated the following: the Sox needed to grab 2 FA pitchers in the offseason, move on from Buchholz and trade for a third starter once ERod got injured. The rotation should be: Price, FA #2, Porcello, SP trade and Wright.

...who had reeled off 8 QS in a row. When was the last time Buchholz (or ERod for that matter) pitched a QS. Defending Buccholz is flat-out stupid. He just plain flat-out sucks. With Erod, there's at least a glimmer of hope because he's young and coming off injury. Buch can't throw strikes and his stuff is diminished. Time to accept reality.
