That's not the same as anyone suggesting Wright should lose his rotation spot. As of right now, Buchholz is the odd man out.

They were asking the question if Wright should be the man out. The problem with Clay is that he can't really be trusted in the pen, but there's really no other options if they are to take him out of the rotation. So the other options were Kelly, since he would be a much better fit coming out of the pen, or Wright. I agree that Buccholz is the guy who should lose his job, whether it means going to the pen or just getting cut. He simply isn't ever going to put it together to be a consistent, TOTR kind of guy, and his injury history makes him basically useless as a middle/back of the rotation pitcher.

Is that TOTR acronym really going to stick? I hope not.

As for the rest of the argument, they can and will phantom DL Buch. They've done it before, and they're all-in on winning right now, so they're not going to remove a hot pitcher from the rotation to protect CB's feelings.

They were discussing it on weei this afternoon after the Smith injury and inevitability of E-Rod returning. They basically were curious who should be put in the pen.

Well, after this start Wright is not going anywhere. Seems like he is becoming a surprising and nice reality.

He just need to train bit more with whoever is going to be his regular catcher. Vazquez seemed better behind the plate than Han.

Btw, Bal is losing again. Sweet.

Again.... anyone stating that Wright should lose out to E-Rod doesn't know his ass from his elbow. Wright's has been our best pitcher all year.

I'd trust Kelly out of the pen more than Bucky......

How much longer for E-Rod. I thought a couple more starts after the set back last week. Aren't we looking at a about 10 days at least?

I know he had a good outing today/yesterday.

I just noticed others using TOTR. Don't really mind either way, so long as we all know what it means.

I think sending Clay to the DL would be the best choice as well. Either way, Wright shouldn't go anywhere, nor should Kelly if he continues to pitch well once the time comes.

If Clay shits the bed badly tomorrow, it could be his last start in Red Sox uniform.

Somehow I thought that Colorado was a potent offense but they are 25th in wRC+ in all baseball, so Buch will not have excuses.

Sorry.... when I said I'd trust Kelly out of the pen more than Buchh....... right now I'd also trust him more as a starter. I guess right now I just think Kelly is a better pitcher.

What would be best is if Buch gets two more starts and goes on a tear and starts a good run..........

I've said this a dozen times already, but I have to say it again: Every day this team reminds me more and more of the 2013 team. 2004 and 2007 were a deep team full of guys you expected to play at the level they are playing. But 2013 and 2016 were/are teams that are full of a lot of guys performing far beyond what we could have hoped for. They also both have that tendency to never seem out of games until the final out. I love it.

@redsoxstats In 11 of his last 13 starts Wright has allowed 0, 1 or 2 runs. 3 and 5 in the other two.

The entire bullpen better band together and buy the guy a fruit basket or something. He's single-handedly saved them probably a collective 15 innings worth of arm use.

Wasn't able to see the game tonight, but damn, Swihart with two triples? I know he's not currently catching but he has to be one of the more athletic, faster catchers I've ever seen.

I agree with your enthusiasm, but not with the comparison. I think this team is not playing way over their heads or our expectations. We knew all along Bogaerts could hit, ditto Ortiz and Betts. Shaw and JBJ both started hitting really well last August and September. Pedroia and Ramirez are actually below their norms. Ditto LF and C. The 2013 team had superb pitching with Lester, Lackey, and Buchholz, until his injury, all having excellent seasons. This year the pitching is subpar. Ramirez at 1b is a surprise, granted, but he should not have been. The 2013 team, absent Ellsbury and Salty, collapsed in 2014. I don't see that happening to this team. One other correlation is valid--same manager. But the consensus among talksox posters is that Farrell was lucky in 2013 and proved his lousiness in 2014 and 2015. I disagree, but that's because I'm obnoxious and other things.

I do not disagree that no one predicted this team would be 12 games over .500 on May 25. That is indeed astounding, but 2014 and 2015 made it hard to see anything good in 2016.

Johnny Gomes retired today.

Many here made fun of him when the Sox picked him up. And still many s*** on him when he helped win a championship.

I liked the guy. Even if he looked too much like Charles Manson.

He is the type of player that this team is filled with. He was a great contributor.

I could not be happier for Swihart here Spud. I'm all in on him in left (particularly if he hits!).
