Speaking of John Lackey, Allen Craig is getting 5 million a year to play in AAA. Thank God, the Paw-Sox have been desperate for a Jeff Bailey replacement for a while!
Jeff Bailey had better power.

Sadly, you are wrong. We are paying Craig 9 million this year and 11 million next year, plus a 1 million buyout on the 2018 option.

Koji has destroys Papelbon stats every year since he arrive in Boston. Get over the Papelbon sensation.

mmm... Which ones?. Papelbon still closing at high level.

For instance, Koji isn't a closer anymore. Koji isn't durable anymore. Koji isn't 2103 Koji anymore and won't be again.

Again. I like Koji but his track record as a closer is not even close to Papelbon's. Papelbon's durability and consistency as closer are making a case to Cooperstown.

No. He's unlikable. The media won't vote him in.

Don't forget Rusney Castillo and his 7 million too! Actually Baseball Reference says 11 million.

Are you aware that Koji isn't a closer anymore? Are you aware this team has a new closer?

This Koji vs Papelbon is inane. Koji has performed great for the Red Sox. Now they have a new closer. Koji has a different role. Why are you still debating this non issue?

This sentiment of Papelbon you attach to is bizarre.

This team doesn't need Papelbon as THEIR closer even IF you feel he can still perform. He is only getting by these days IMO.

The fact is the Red Sox does not have a closer issue since Koji join them. They don't either right now.

I don't remember him having a problem with the media when he was in Boston.

You mean besides the several times (this happened in Philly too) he blew a game then essentially told the media he pitched just great, only to be called out for whatever reason then pouting about it? If that's the case, then no.

I want to take this post, frame it, and hang it on my bedroom wall. Seriously people, don't you get tired of the Papelbon ********? Goddamn.

More than that, the Hall criteria for closers is pretty - well high is not the right word, but specific.

Early guys have gotten love, Gossage, Sutter, Fingers (and Sutter was a very shaky pick). Since it has become a 9th inning job, the bar has gone up a lot higher. Eck and Smoltz got in, but also had a lot of good starting years to back it up. Papelbon right now is in the Lee Smith, Jeff Reardon soup - which is not getting a sniff right now. Really outside of Rivera and maybe Trevor Hoffman, it will be very hard to make the Hall doing that job.

Lol!

I think you are not following the thread Station or at least how this came up.

While I think just like you that they are not comparable -Papelbon has way a better track record as closer than Koji -I didn't started this hahaha. I just put an example of a durable pitcher like Papelbon among several, then u said that Koji has been better than Papelbon since he arrived here in every stat -which is a falacia - and I asked like which ones.... The rest is history.

With all this money invested in the Paw-Sox, they better win the AAA championship this year!

Yep, 11 million is the correct number. We don't pay our AAAlbatrosses chump change.

i don't know what happened in Philly, but I don't remember a negative relationship with the Press in Boston. He pitched very well in Philly without too many blown saves. Philadelphia had a lot to gripe about with their team. Papelbon wasn't one of them.

i get tired of pointless Papelbon hate. You do it to get under Iortiz's skin, but there is zero reason for Red Sox fans to hate him. He was great for us and durable. Opinions to the contrary about his time in Boston are unsupported by facts and just stupid. So, yeah I get tired of it. No one is saying that we want him back. We have Kimbrel now in his prime.

Honestly, I don't recall the Boston press getting after Pablebom for anything more than his post series celebrations and some other childish s***.

Boston fans around here have nothing bad to say about him. He was pretty f***ing good most of the time in Boston.

Now when he got to Philly he started to talk s*** like Philly fans are more knowledgeable than Boston fans. Then he kept on saying stuff that made in unpopular in Philly.

He's a dope. But that's it.

If he had stayed in Boston, maybe he'd be more beloved. However, he went to Philly where everyone hated him. He developed a s***** attitude. He brought his s***** attitude to DC and tried to choke out one of the most popular players in the game.

Any shine he had while in Boston is now long gone. He's turned very unlikable, which is my only point about him not getting into the HOF.

Don't take wrong, I like the Kimbrel-Koji-Taz set up. It is arguably one the best in MLB.

On the other and looking the whole thing in a retrospective way it was a mistake letting Pap go, considering what we have paid for other busts and what he have posted in Philly. He has earned every penny of his contract.

How long is he going to last at this level? 40? I think so.

I dislike the Papelbon worship no matter who it comes from. See, my issue with Papelbon is the same issue I have with Brady and Kobe (and I have stated as such many times.) They play for my favorite team, but I hate their guts because they are douchebags. Now that Papelbon no longer play for my team, no reason to put up with his BS. iortiz is not that important. He needs to get over himself, and I've had this same argument with you during periods where iortiz is not posting. As you often like to say: "Don't try to tell me what I'm thinking". I dislike Papelbon, full stop.

Hopefully Kimbrel fills what Pap did here.

Btw A+ post, as usual.

You don't know the guys and you hate them? Man, that's sick. (Not meant as an insult).

You should not believe all that the media say. I have heard that the guy outside the game is a great human being, but you know what? I don't care.

I don't care their attitude/personal life as long they perform and get the job done, and Pap is still one of the best closers in the game, and that's not debatable.
