Theo's Cubbies are an incredible 40 games over .500 and have a 16.5 game lead over the Cards, with an 87-47 record. And, they are 4 games worse than what their Pythagorean W-L record says they should be.

They are under a lot of pressure to win it all this year. After this tye of regular season, an NLCS or league pennant would be a huge letdown.

It wouldn't be so surprising, though. It's happened way too many times before. Even the best regular season doesn't guarantee a WS win. Hell, look at the 2001 (or was it 2002?) Mariners. I would like to see the Cubs win one of these days, but I'd rather not have it be this year. After this regular season their damned fans would just be way too smug about it.

I don't necessarily disagree with that, but the playoffs really are more or less of a crapshoot. You get there and you give it your best shot, but anything can happen. It would be a huge disappointment for them if they don't win it all, but it shouldn't be viewed as a failure.

The team that wins the World Series is often not the best regular season team.

If it's not our beloved Red Sox, I hope it is the Cubs.

I hope they fold in the first round. Theo should suffer for ditching his beloved Red Sox. Screw him. I hope that he enjoys all the fan letters that he is getting from SCM.

I don't see it as Theo ditching the Sox. I see it as ownership more or less showing him the door.

For me it goes Sox, Pirates, Rockies, everyone else, World Series cancelled due to weather, World Series cancelled due to alien invasion, Cardinals, World Series cancelled due to complete destruction of the planet and extinction of the human race, Yankees.

I agree with you on the placement of the Sox and the Yankees.

A Cubs-Giants playoff series could be a good one. Bumgarner is a major factor all by himself.

Giants would have to hit better than .107 though.

If it's not the Sox, then I don't really care who wins. If the Cubs or Yankees win, it doesn't change my life at all.

The Yankees winning is the only thing that really sours things for me.

If I worked with Yankees fans, it could be annoying. Fortunately, I don't have many Yankees fans in my life. Honestly, the most annoying Yankees fans I ever had to deal with were in CA.

No, it can't be the Yankees. Anyone but the Yankees.

the complete destruction of the planet and extinction of the human race will also happen if the Cubs win.

There is no scenario under which I root for the Yankees. If the Yankees were playing a team of aliens for the fate of the planet, I'd be pulling for the aliens. We had a good run.

I really really like how the Cubs look like just a week to start the season. I had my doubts regarding Theo as GM since he left a mess in Boston, but IMO he has learned and matured a lot since then. Good for him and the Cubs.

I see a great combination of proven super stars and high caliber young players, I see a balanced team all the way; great pitching and good bats. Also they have arguably the best fan base in baseball and a lot of money.

They have all the pieces together to win. On paper, they must be the fav to win it all this year. Imagine a WS between the Red Sox and the Cubs, would be epic.

You my friend called this s***!!!!!

Congrats Cubs! What a hell of a series!

Lester and Lackey are three time champions. Some guys are just winners, and it is nice to have them in your rotation.

I don't miss em. We got a healthy Allen Craig this year and a nice long reliever in Joe Kelly.
