I started typing that, then you made me sad.

Jonathan Imabum.

I'm sad that Fred's not here. He'd have way better nicknames then we would come up with.

VMart wasn't traded.

Fine, shouldn't have let him go.

Not sure what you're doubling down complaint was though. You seem extra touchy lately. Have a Molson.

Sorry man, I thought it was a joke on your part.

You're correct though, I am a little touchy lately, and I apologize. Part of it is I'm getting too old for this personal tax season crap.

As a CPA, I feel your pain. I got out of public accounting a few years ago because the hours were silly. I'm very happy to be in private industry now. I have 6 weeks of vacation, sick time, 12 holidays and get to waste time on here in between reviewing the work of my staff accountants.

Nice. I need to find a job where I can goof off all day.

If they had looked after Lester maybe Lackey would have been more agreeable to everything. The Lester joke offer may have contributed to losing both of them. That's quite a bungle.

They offered Lester less than they ended up paying for Rusney. That was one of the craziest lowball offers made by any baseball team in a long time.

Ouch, that's Papelbon's 2nd 'BL' of the season, the dreaded letters that mean you not only blew the save but lost the game.

You guys are ridiculous. Papelbon can still pitch. His results will be there at the end of the season. Kimbrel also has 2 Blown Saves. I don't think he is toast either. I spent years hoping that Rivera was toast when he would have early season blown saves with diminished velocity. You need to give it a rest unless you want this Dead Horse topic to resurface each time he saves a game -- which will be quite often.

Kimbrel has not been great so far. But the strikeout rate is outstanding and the homerun/FB rate is unsustainably high. Papelbon is the opposite. And moreover, really the question is whether Papelbon is an improvement over a name drawn from a hat - and there is not a ton of evidence in his corner.

The guy is still good and I think it is delusional to believe that a name could have been drawn from a hat that would have put up the numbers that he has in the last couple of seasons. The other advantage with Papelbon, and it can't be overstated is that you know what you have with him year in and year out. Names out of a hat don't provide that.

...........if Paps came back to the Sox I would not be upset. The guy can deal and would be a great 7th inning guy. You can never have too many solid arms in the BP!

Can't disagree with this. Although I can't see the Sox paying his tab with the current payroll.

He may be a total DB but he is still a productive reliever.

I can disagree. I don't believe he can "deal" anymore. His velocity is down and the contact rate is up. He's also never been a 7th inning guy and there is a transition there (uncertainty of when he'll pitch, come in with runners on, etc.).

Paps has come in plenty of times with runners on so I doubt that would be any sort of issue. His numbers were very solid last year (he was an allstar) so it's not like he's far removed from being able to 'deal'. Sure, he has not been great so far this season but his stay in Washington has not exactly been without controversy. A change of scenery and back to his 'roots' could very well add to the fire a bit.

With that said though, Spud is right......most of this is moot since there is no way we pick up that contract for a 7th inning guy.

Paps has always been able to get his standard numbers in good order by the end of the season. But his numbers since joining Washington are not so good. 3.53 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Poor for a closer.

He seems to be trying to transition into more of a command and control pitcher. It would be an exceptional pitcher who didn't encounter a few speedbumps in that kind of transformation. Let's wait and see how he finishes the year.

He has logged 35 innings with the Nats since the end of last year. His numbers will be there at the end of the year like they are every year.
