Ben after being the nbr 1 guy in Boston didn't interview for jobs where he would be the GM working under a VP for Baseball Operations. I understand those were the positions for which he was invited to interview That was the situation he could have had in Boston. Like I said before we will know what baseball owners really think about Ben if and when he returns to baseball.

One of the jobs for which Ben declined an interview was with Seattle. I am pretty sure that the GM is the top dog in baseball operations for that team. Also, things might have changed in Philly recently, but the former GM, Ruben Amaro Jr. handled the baseball operations for that team. Ben did not turn down the interviews because he wouldn't have been the number 1 guy.

I don't think (actually, scratch that, I know) that none of us on TS can say why Ben did or did not do things, because we are not him, nor were we present when he discussed his reasons for declining the interviews. Until he comes out on camera and says "I declined the job interview because _____ ", it's all just speculation.

Anyways, Dombrowski is the GM now, and he's doing an excellent job, so let's just focus on that!

The position with the Yankees was not for GM. Oh, I forgot, Ben would rather teach than be a GM.

I realize that the Yankees position was not for GM. It was Cashman who tried to hire him. But it is interesting that Cashman tried to hire Ben soon after Ben was 'fired' from the Sox. And look now at the direction the Yankees seem to be headed in - the same direction the Sox have been in the last few years, which is trying to stay competitive while getting younger and building the farm.

Why is it so disturbing to you that Cherington would rather teach than be a GM?

But this is the Dead Horse thread. Hello? That kind of defeats the purpose.

That said, Dombrowski has done an excellent job so far, thanks to the position that Ben left the team in. ;)

Technically speaking, I'm not sure Dombrowski was fired either. Officially, he was 'released from his contract to pursue other opportunities'. :D

So technically speaking, neither GM was fired.

What about Duquette? Is he a bad GM? He sure got a lot of credit over Theo for 2004.

Disturbing? Not at all. It is just evidence that no one was beating down his door to give him a GM job.

DD was released from his contract to pursue other opportunities. I realize that this could be a save face explanation provided by the Tigers, but the Red Sox hired Ben's replacement while he was still with the Red Sox. There is no plausible cover story for that. He'd been displaced (if you don't like the word "fired").

No, Dombrowski is not the GM. He is not the GM at all. You have clearly not been paying enough attention to the Dead Horse Debates!

Folk are using the term GM to describe the Chief of Baseball Operations which what a GM's job used to be. Dombrowski is President of Baseball Operations and has the person with the GM title Mike Hazen working for him.

Duquette was not a bad GM, he procured some great players, we had some good years under him. But ultimately he failed us. He couldn't finish the job. Also from what I understand in his latter days he had somewhat of a mental breakdown and became something of a paranoid creep.

He also reportedly shunned the team's legacy and didn't want players from the past anywhere near the park.

Oh I know...it was an attempted joke.

In fairness to the Duke, ownership was very dysfunctional in those days.

If you read most of the reporting on Seattle it was a major shakeup and Dipoto was the number 1 candidate. He of course got the job. There is every indication that Ben probably knew he wasn't a real contender for that job. Moreover Seattle had already committed to their manager.

Ben could have had the Ass't GM's job reportedly in LA and there was of course Cashman's comments.

I wouldn't completely rule out the possibility that Kimmi is Ben.

Has to at least be some sort of psychic connection at the very least.

Hanley should never have been signed - Porcello should have had to earn the extension - fatso is just just just whatever

Daniel Bard should never have been a starter.

I personally think Bard was a lost cause before he was ever converted to a starter. Remember he fell apart not in 2012 but in the last month of 2011.

How can a guy go from one of the top set up guys in baseball to out of baseball? The problem has to be between the ears.

I will not be relegated to discussing topics in this thread. If the mood strikes me to bring up Wily Mo Pena for Bronson Arroyo, I will do it in one of the other threads. This will be my first and last post in this thread. Down with censorship.
