"Dumbass play by Sandoval"

Wish I had a dollar for every time this was posted. You, JBay, and Spudboy would make me a millionaire haha.

I hate to sound redundant so I have pretty much stopped pointing out the obvious.

People will see what they want to see.

Speaking of lousy defense, did anyone see the bonehead move Mr. All World made in left for the Mets two nights ago? I walked in on the highlights and only saw it once.

While fielding a routine single to left Cespedes chose not to get down on the ball or to keep the ball in front of him. The ball glanced off his his glove and went rolling back toward the wall. Three runs scored!!!!!

This is yet another example of the poor execution of fundamentals that the Cuban players display.

At least Castillo is getting good coaching and is catching on.

Yep, I saw it. It put the Mets in a 7-1 deficit. I thought they were toast, but they came back to win. Everything is breaking right for them.

Edit: I have seen a lot of Cespedes since the Mets got him. To put Hanley in context, Cespedes has looked like Willie Mays out their in comparison. Also, he has played some CF for the Mets. Go figure.

BTW, Castillo has looked great in LF. I think he should be the Left Fielder with Bradley in RF. Last night, Castillo made several good plays in LF. He threw out Donnaldson by 15 feet on a line drive off the wall. He held runners at first and second on another wall ball. There were abut three plays that Hanley would have turned into a tour around the bases with the Toronto thrid base coach windmilling runners around. People think that LF is no big dea in Fenway, but if you put a bad fielder out their it can wreck game after game. Hanley may be the biggest cause for our terrible season right along with the terrible pitching.

I only saw the throw Castillo made to gun down Donaldson, but that was pretty f'king impressive. We might have ourselves a great outfield next year.

I couldn't contain myself yesterday. I seriously have not said a peep about Sandoval other than plate discipline for months. In fact I've been in the camp of believing he was better than his first half.

I can handle people not making a catch or throw or something. But mental errors or bad judgment bugs the heck out of me at the pro level.

That play was something I would say most high school players would have played correctly.

GTs have been neglected lately which is surprising to me since this is the best baseball that the Red Sox have played in almost 2 full seasons.

Just wait till we are only a couple games back from a .500 winning percentage...... then you'll see everyone come flocking back trying to catch the ride to glory of being mediocre......

I long for mediocre as I am entitled.

Can't we all just get along? LOL!! We're playing winning baseball. Let's enjoy it. We haven't had this brand of baseball since 2013. If we had a bullpen, I might be onboard with Pedroia, Thunder and Kimmi about making the playoffs.

Even I have to say that Castillo looked pretty good in left last night.

Castillo had a good instinct for how to caroms would come off the wall. They showed some footage of Castillo taking instruction from one of the coaches on playing the wall. I don't recall seeing any footage of Hanley getting such instruction.

I do. Lots of it in ST and April.

This "no gamethread until after the game starts" s*** needs to stop.

It really does. I would have started it, but my run just ended. Come on people!

Please don't trade Mookie or Xander... I don't care what kind of pitcher we could get, don't do it

I know you have to give up good players to get good players, and I know we need pitching, but I would hate to see any of our current big league kids get traded.

Do you not see an improvement in Sandoval's defense the 2nd half?

Castillo has looked good in LF. I agree that Castillo in LF, JBJ in RF, and Mookie in CF looks like our best alignment. That being said, I think we could go with just about any alignment of those three in the OF and they'd be very good.

I've decided I'm too much of a softie to be a GM. I wouldn't be able to part with some of the youngsters on the team....... and my motto is I'd trade for pitching any day of the week...........

I guess I'm glad is isn't up to me.

He has. It almost had no where to go but up.

Wasn't he kicking around a negative WAR around the half?

He still does some of those things that really solid players just don't do, like last night. But Sandoval has made some really good plays also......

Overall, yes.

However, he can not make plays that require him to go more than a crossover to his left.

Take it from a fat guy, quickness and mobility are hampered by the excess weight.

I still think he is very average and not worth the money and hype.

Oh I know I wouldn't make a good GM. I get too attached to the players. I would never be able to let anyone go.

He was never worth the big contract that he got. He also was never a gold glover on defense. However, there was no reason to expect him to be as bad as he was the first half. He is coming around now to play more like the player that the FO expected when they signed him.

I'm in the obvious minority here but I was Ok with the Sandoval signing. Too much money for sure but we needed the third baseman. I was opposed to the Ramirez signing. There really was no natural fit for him. To pay that kind of money for a player you knew would have to play a position that he had never played, only told me that they must have had money to just throw around. I was stunned that they did not add a top of the rotation pitcher. All that being said, Sandoval's appalling fitness level is helping to create a back issue that won't go away unless he does something about it.

Somehow I am not consoled by this.

Well, it should offer some consolation going forward if he plays up to expectations for the rest of his contract, provided that he is not traded. Even without his postseason numbers, he's always been a pretty good player. Maybe not worth his contract, but a good player nonetheless.
