Trading Miley for spare parts will be a mistake. There better be actual value coming back to the Sox.

I'm not a big fan of Miley, but I completely agree. He's pretty much the definition of mediocre, but there is definite value in 200 IP of medocrity.

I am seeing Smith is a power arm and Mariner fans aren't happy to see him go. Elias looks like a pre arb lotto ticket with upside. Not a terrible trade imo

Getting Carson Smith for Miley seems like an impressive move by Dombrowski. This is going to make the back of the bullpen good and you cut a lot of money off your payrole.

Scouting reports on Smith/Elias: Power deception w/heavy ball from Smith. Impact late inning reliever. Elias versatile LHP w/a feel to pitch - Speier

Looks like the trade results in an upgrade to the bullpen and a downgrade to a potential starter in the rotation. It appears to be an even trade in that respect. One has to wonder if Miley was traded in part for showing up Farrell this past year.

Once again, it looks like a move that attempts to address a real need. Hate to see Miley go, but we have arms enough to give us we we got from him. Maybe not just one, but a combination for sure.

Miley had the greatest value ( IMO ) among himself, Buch, and Kelly.

Sorry to see him go as he was useful now and likely would continue to be so.

I hope the relief arm they grabbed is worth it.

Mariners needed a starter after losing Iwakuma to LA. Obviously they think more of Miley than Elias

And that would be a good reason to make the trade. Miley is serviceable as a 4 or 5 in the Seattle rotation.

Is Smith any good? Has he been consistent?

In one season, his numbers look like this: 11.8 K/9, 2.32 ERA, 1.00 WHIP.

We won't know if he's consistent for a few years. He's controllable for 5 years, and that's his value.
