What else is he going to say? He's not going to throw them under the bus. This is 2015, pitchers have a game plan prepared before the game, and it's the coaching staff and catcher who call the pitches.

And this makes things even more strange for me. If it is the coaches decision, and yes they have a game plan and the catcher is making most of the calls, why aren't they out there taking the blame.

If I'm Porcello, and someone is messing with my game. And my game is my paycheck, and that person wont fess up to messing up my game and I have to take the blame. Then I'm going to be pissed at the at that person.

Something doesn't make sense.

It is pretty clear that this is on Porcello, but U? does not like listen the true even when it is evident.

The pitcher controls what he throws and when he throws it. Any speculation otherwise is a desparate attempt to find an excuse. Edited by a700hitter

Porcello has no one to blame but himself. He has lost command. How else do explain the number of batters he has hit or the number of gopher balls he has thrown. How many times has Porcello failed to have a shut down inning after the Sox have given him the lead. He loses focus. He hasn't been just a little bad he has really sucked. He may be another Erik Bedard, a pitcher with great talent but one who lacked the mental toughness to be a consistent big league starter or he could be another Daniel Bard. One day you have it then you don't. It happens.

I'm sick of all the Porcello talk.

He is under performing for whatever reason and the Sox look stupid for having faith in him enough to extend him.

Big f***ing deal. The Sox waste more money than anyone I have ever seen. And they make some questionable decisions like Castillo, Moncada, Hanley, and Fat Boy.

It is not the end of the world. It is still interesting to watch these guys. It's entertainment!

I still like the Hannigan signing!!!!!!:P

P.S. : My "O" key is malfunctioning.

But...we're not done with all the excuses yet!!!

Yup, while everybody here is talking about baseball (regardless you agree or disagree), he always starts s*** up. Hopefully the mods are taking note.

I don't see it being any worse than labeling someone's posts as "excuses" or "BS", simply because one doesn't understand them.

I do love high K/9 pitchers, who doesn't?... but when you look at a guy like Mark Buehrle, you have to consider him even with his low K/9 since he has a good command and excellent BB/9. He has a 3.82 career ERA over 16 SEASONS in which most of them he posted 3+, 4+ and even 5+ WAR numbers; and not to mention that he has been durable. In my book it is called consistency. I love consistency and durability regardless the stuff behind, reason why I like Lester, Shields, Buehrle, Papelbon, etc.

Look, He is 36 YO and he is under 4 ERA these days. He is probably one of the most underestimated pitchers ever. Bring me 4 Buehrles' career numbers pitchers and I sign them anyday.

Porcello's best WAR number is 2.8 through 6 seasons LOL!. Buherle posted 4 WAR in his second year of service, so... comparing him with Porcello just because both have low K/9 (Buehrle even below) is stupid.

The discussion has been civil, no one has been offended as long as I know, until U? appeared.

Hopefully you do not make excuses, sorry you do not get offended, when it is time to pay me the bet.

That's your opinion.

The money is no big deal if I lose, but I admit having to give someone like you money will bother me.

I usually don't bet with someone I have no respect for, but it's my own fault for being hasty.

And, I wasn't the one trying to weasel out of the bet at the beginning of the season. That would be you.

And quit crying to the mods. You sound like a little girl.

I was trying to be polite and fair, trying to make sure that you and everyone else got the conditions of the bet. Nothing more, nothing less. If you took it in the wrong way it is up to you.

Said that and hasty or not you have to pay.

I think he is on U.N.'s Whaambulance.

LOL!

We had had a civil discussion with Kim, sk, bell, etc. I do not think we have insulted them; sure we have disagreed in some points but as long as I know it has been civil.

That is right. You and I had disagreed about Porcello and other things, but it has been civil.

From Scott Lauber's column today:

It’s premature to label Castillo a bust. But it’s also fair to say the Sox expected he’d make a more immediate impact after signing him to the largest contract ever for an international free agent, especially after the nearly instant big league success of Cuban countrymen Yoenis Cespedes, Yasiel Puig and Jose Abreu. It’s also worth noting that third baseman/outfielder Yasmany Tomas, who signed with Arizona for $68.5 million in December, is batting .315 with three homers and a .780 OPS through 53 games.

The Sox were drawn to Castillo primarily because of his athletic ability. One team official who watched his workouts last year in Florida even compared his raw athleticism to Deion Sanders. Castillo showed flashes of promise last September and in winter ball in Puerto Rico. Former Sox infielder Alex Cora, who managed Castillo in winter ball, said he believed that Castillo was ready to open this season in the majors.

Deion Sanders....seriously? I think our scouting department needs an overhaul.

What is interesting about Buehrle is that his WAR is wrapped up primarily in his durability. His best seasons he was hanging 240 IP a season, which is immensely valuable - but also very different from how baseball teams operate now. I am not sure if it is a great apples to apples comparison. That said, Buehrle is a solid comp for Porcello for two guys who have often outperformed their FIP fundamentals.

iortiz didn't understand the age part of the equation, why they're similar, or the point of the comment. Just terrible. Stick to your day job, iortiz.

It is not a good comparasion by any means. Their track record says it all. MB was/is way far a better pitcher than Porcello.

Did they scout him while he played in Cuba, or just working out on his year off? Because working out is no f***ing way to judge someone's ability to play baseball. Everything I hear about this kid is he doesn't get/do the fundamentals. How is this even possible?

Castillo has played 26 games in the majors this year. We probably shouldn't worry about him quite yet.

Except for, as I said, I have heard from multiple sources that his fundamentals suck, and even Farrell admits he's struggling to make adjustments at the plate.

And just to add to this - he ain't no f***ing kid. This team has literally spit money into the air without anything to show for it. We now have 3,4, or 5 centerfielders in our system who are clones of one another. From a pitching perspective we have Rodriguez and then we have the rest of them. Any and all could be traded. Power bats are a long ways away. I am a Sox fan for life but what they have done really does suck. We will get through it and maybe they will get lucky.

Fundamentals are the one part of a player's game you can fix. You can't teach talent, you can teach fundamentals.
