The catch wasn't the issue. It was misplaying a single into a triple. Regardless there was no excuse for not having a defensive substitute for Ramirez

The lack of defensive replacements is certainly something Farrell should have been asked about after the game. If anybody can find any comments from him about it please post them. Drives me nuts when you don't get any sort of explanation for things like this.

Koji blows it. f***!!! Not scoring those extra runs bite them in the end. This team still stinks with risp.

People tend to want to blame a loss on a single player or on the manager. Craig, Koji, and Farrell have all been blamed for last night's loss. Last I checked, baseball was a team sport. Where was the offense during almost that entire game last night? Cy Chen retired the last 13 batters that he faced. Really? What about Hanley getting thrown out at the plate?

There are far too many plays in a game to blame a loss on one play or one player/manager. There were plenty of opportunities where the Sox could have won the game earlier. That doesn't even take into account all the randomness that usually affects a one run game more than talent does.

Let me also say that lost in all of this "blaming" is the fact that Masterson pitched a very solid game. Good job by him. No loss is good loss, but his effort was a good one and something to be positive about.

But of course, it will take three more blown saves for Farrell to even contemplate it.

Koji is not the closer that he was a couple of years ago, but he should still be very effective. At any rate, it is too early to give up on him in that role. I, for one, am glad that Farrell is not at reactionary as some of the fans are.

If Craig keeps Jones to a single, they still lose. Loss is 100% on Koji.

I have to disagree with this. If Craig keeps Jones to a single, the entire dynamic of the inning is different. Perhaps Davis grounds into a DP. Either way, the loss is not 100% on Koji.

Every time I think of Farrell I can barely contain my utter rage at that moron. Craig should NOT have been in there because we needed decent defense that last inning and anyone would be better than Craig---who in my opinion anyway, does NOT want to be in Boston and never has. Get his ass out of town. As for Farrell, sit Napoli down tomorrow. After all he went three for four tonight and you did the same thing to Holt this evening.....with another disaster move you miserable puke. Well all we can hope for is that the team overcomes this imbecile and wins tomorrow despite having him in the dugout. And Farrell, you play Holt tomorrow, the next day, the day after that and so on.

Fred, perhaps you should start a thread entitled "Games Farrell Has Cost the Team" so that you can keep track. Then, at the end of the season, when Farrell has cost us about 17 games, and the team has won about 88 games, we can all acknowledge that we really had a 105 win team and that Ben did an outstanding job this offseason!

I agree. I still love Koji. My remark was more of a sarcastic snark than anything else.

Or Victorino. Incompetence by Farrell.

Victorino is on the DL. However, for all of the Victorino bashers, this is a reason why a healthy Vic needs to be in right field. IMO, he makes that play.

While there should have been a defensive replacement, Craig is still a goat for diving. If you go for a diving catch in that situation you better f***ing come up with it. Cost us big time.

In hindsight, Craig should have played that on a hop, and held Jones to a single. That said, that's easier said than done. He thought he had a beat on it, and he went for for. Had he caught the ball, no one would be saying that he shouldn't have dove for it. He was being aggressive and going all out. Bad decision, yes, but I can't blame him for it.

Ah, okay. I often miss sarcasm in posts. :)

I still haven't figured out if MVP really hates Pedroia or if he is being sarcastic.

Dang, you broke my streak of consecutive posts. ;-)

I have not seen any comments regarding this. I am guessing that being one short on the bench (Barnes replaced Victorino) might have something to do with it? Not that that is a very good reason.

Koji flat out lost the game, but you still need to blame the manager.

Maybe by the ASB you'll actually watch the games and see that his stuff isn't there anymore?

If Holt has played we most likely wouldn't have had to go into extra innings. Go ahead and praise Farrell.....that's your prerogative but he sucks as a manager. There was no excuse for sitting Brock down last night and not making those defensive changes late in the game.

Amazing Elk!!!! We still have people here who insists on giving Farrell a free pass on his moronic managing this season. Thank God it isn't this way elsewhere if you know what I mean.

Sorry Kimmi but maybe you should be the one to keep track of that so it would sear you from pollyannish support for a manager who is not big enough for the job. The fact that he sat Holt down when he's our hottest hitter and responsible for our win Friday is absolutely off the wall. Yes, a lot of people helped lose that game but Farrell did nothing to help win it. Holt should have been in that lineup and Craig should not have been in the field in the tenth inning. PERIOD!!!!! Let's see if Brock will be in the lineup today. If so we have a decent chance of winning the game.

I love Koji too. But the problem in the few games I've seen so far is that too many of the sinkers are up, and when that happens, last night is the result. When he keeps it down, it seems both irresistible and unhittable, exactly as two years ago. I hate to see any athlete get old and ineffective, since it reminds me ... oh never mind.

Koji has been pretty lights out other than the past couple of nights. I've seen a few pitches the last few games from him that look dang close to being right over the plate and with nothing on it and no movement. I just read his velocity is down and if the split isn't doing what it needs to he is in trouble. He's 40 also.

Hopefully this was just a blip. You gotta stay with him anyway.

Our bullpen has pitched the second to most innings in the league, and is around 8th in ERA. As scary as it is, they are doing alright.
