Although I do have to say, people they have brought up and put in the bull pen like Noe Ramirez, Jonathan Arro, and Matt Barnes have been pretty horrendous.

No one can disagree. We can't even develop middle relievers.

And you know where Robbie Ross came from, right? We traded Ranaudo for him.

One guy we did develop was Alex Wilson.

So naturally we toss him in on the Porcello trade, and this year he's got a 1.76 ERA and a .94 WHIP in 56.1 innings for the Tigers.

Yup. They traded away all of there prospect starters last year for Wade Miley and Robbie Ross.

Alex Wilson was very solid in 2013 if I remember correctly. They sure could use him now.

I despise everything about that trade.

Owens was good - got twice through the order nicely. Deception is real and so is the junk. Quite a bit to build on. Third time was dicier - but that is the case for almost every starter these days.

Fielder has an 897 OPS and is leading the majors in hits right now so it's kind of a funny time to knock that signing.

$215mil for a designated hitter with a weight problem was obscene. To be fair I wonder how much of this was Dombrowski's doing versus the owner wanting to open the checkbook for a big FA name.

Hanley Ramirez has 8 doubles. 8! How is this even possible.

Is it too soon to get on him about his bat as well as his fielding? Because since the hot start, he hasn't been too good at the plate.

Daniel Nava claimed by the Rays after being DFA by the Sox. Any thoughts?

Yes - I remember Nava's first hit. Nice job - good luck in your new digs. That's it.

Barnes should have been allowed to continue as a potential starter.

Good riddance. Too slow to pulled that trigger. Now send more their merry way.

How does work when a player is DFA and a team claims him? Doesn't the Red Sox still get something back in return, or can they just give him straight to them, or if the Red Sox pull him back he has to go on the 40 man roster I never was really sure how it worked

No. DFA players are 'claim' without any returns except salaries relief for former club.

Good claim for the Rays - Nava is limited but he does one thing very well - hit righthanded pitching. For a team chasing a playoff spot it's not so bad - a bench bat who will be especially handy if they can force their way into a playoff game.

He is not hitting this year. He is hitting Right handed pitching for a .155 batting average.

Over 67 whole PAs. .372 OBP last year vs righties, .377 career. Strong candidate to bounce back.

When you pick up someone to help you out for 2 months down the stretch drive, you have no time to wait for the guy to bounce back. He'll get a week or two of AB s and if he continues slumping, he'll be released by the Rays.

This is the Rays though. Even if he starts cold they could keep him around for a longer look, with the expanded rosters in September, and the distinct possibility of them dropping out of it. If he shows any signs of life they might have a place for him next year because he'll still cost very little. If you're the Rays you need some bargain players.

Oh that's obvious. But if Nava suddenly looked like a .377 OBP guy over THESE two weeks, nobody should be surprised. His non-performance most likely would have been fixed by just getting regular burn.

Based on what we have seen this year, it is just a guess as to what Nava will do. If all indicators seem to say that he should hit , maybe he will. It is just a calculated risk - low budget - that they are taking. Good for him and good for them.

I'd be surprised. He stinks this year because of his thumb injury. The Sox don't think it'll be healthy until next ST.

Happy trails Nava. Glad to be watchin the tube when you hit a grand slam on your first mlb at bat. You were also reliable after that, cheers.

Check out this tweet from Brian MacPherson during last night's game:

Cherington did not sound like the plan is to move Ramirez or Sandoval to another position in the second half. His words: "We're more focused on how we continue to help guys in the spots they're in show us what they can do, figure out what their ceilings are."

I'm shaking my head trying to comprehend this. He's talking about $183 million of talent here. We're helping them, seeing what they can do and figuring out their ceilings?
