Doesn't really mean much now, but I wish someone on the team would have blew up. By blow up I don't mean playing good, but either smashing a phone in the dugout like Ortiz or yelling at a player, etc. When you look at this team on paper, you couldn't have projected them to be this bad. I love my Sox and will cheer them until the day I die, but it's just heartbreaking to see them play like this. Thank god I was born in 94' and didn't have to go through the struggle before 2004. I can't imagine how fans felt. The feeling I get right now makes me sick to my stomach.

I don't give a s*** about the clubhouse, what do you do on the field?

Therein lies the rub for me. Every stathead, every scout, and just about everybody else felt and many probably still do feel that a good team was assembled on paper. I know that it is cliche to say and that the *******s will blast me, but the game is played on the field and not on the paper. They just aren't nearly as good as everybody thinks that they are. I'm more concerned that the farm system has been over rated as well. Take a good look at both Pawtucket and Portland and tell me that what you see there really gets you excited. I say ********. I am a Red Sox fan for life, but what really is the plan? Do you really think that they have one? I don't. I think that they are just as screwed up as the rest of us. I will keep following them in hopes that I see a little light for the future.

Some of us have been saying - since before the season started - that they'll be lucky to finish third in the division. But fanatics on fan forums just don't listen. Even now there are some here who will swear up and down that the Red Sox will finish in first place or a close second.

What would you be saying if they were in first right now?

Explain how you can build a good team without players who can put up good stats. The "*******s" will blast you because your assertion is senseless. 2004 was a team of mercenaries with good stats.

I'd be saying oh well, I was wrong about that. Same as I was wrong about the Orioles floating to the top of the pack simply by virtue of the fact that they have their s*** somewhat together. I'd still throw a dollar down that the O's have a better chance of finishing first than the Sox do of finishing third or better, though.

I agree. I'd like to see them become sellers and shop Ramirez and possibly Sandoval. Who knows we may see a 2012 type reset.

I don't think I said that. And what was my assertion? I had a hunch you might chime in. Did I really use the A word?

I was responding to Spudboy who said they are talented, but a poor clubhouse. Chill out.

I'm not attacking you. I'm attacking the notion that clubhouse nice guy is ultimately particularly important. There's not a player in reason history that wouldn't want Bonds on his team if they're being truthful.

no stats were needed to know that the pitching and D would be a problem, just some knowledge of the personnel.

On paper this was a very unbalanced team. I said that over and over again. I even predicted the worst rotation in the last 10 years lead by Rick "easy money" Porcello.

You should have started a discussion thread about the rotation. That would have generated a good deal of spirited friendly debate.;)

I was tempted to start the 2016 offseason thread some weeks ago, but I didn't want to hurt susceptibilities LOL.

I think you meant "sensibilities" above.

The off season thread will start much earlier than last year.

86 was really a tough one to take. In 67 and 75, we had two outstanding teams, but I was just happy to see us have a chance. We played 2 very good teams. Because of the hype and the buildup, this one has been tough to take. I just want them to compete and have a chance. I will continue to cheer them on but I don't see them competing without major changes. I wish that there was a restart button to push.

That too but mostly susceptibilities haha

This is what I found about. n. pl. sus·cep·ti·bil·i·ties

1. The quality or condition of being susceptible.

2. The capacity to be affected by deep emotions or strong feelings; sensitivity.

3. susceptibilities Sensibilities; feelings.

86 was heartbreaking. The mid 90's were soul crushing. 2001 made me want to burn my Sox hat. 2003 made me want to drink a 30 rack and beat on my car with a bat. 2011 was child's play for me.

Both words are kind of the same. I think that the second definition explains pretty well what I'm trying to say LOL! :)

Anyways... the 2016 offseason thread should've been begun already, we were already done several weeks ago.

Nice to see somebody talking real s*** here. At 10 games out of first as of today, the Red Sox are on pace to be 19 or 20 games out at season's end. That is the real s***.

Last year we had no meaningful baseball after the opening weekend, but we spent half the season basking in the glow of the 2013 championship. This 2015 team is worse than last year's team. We have had no meaningful baseball for more than one and a half seasons. Enough already! You are boring your fanbase to death.

No one on here said they'd be below .500.

Lots of chest pounding from people here regarding predictions they didn't make. That's the "real s***" right there.

Posted
I said you'd be fighting for the playoffs but miss out and finish around .500. I can't really puff my chest out about 2/3 of that prediction, but I love the part about missing playoffs

If the sox make the playoffs it is because of their bats. Everyone aside from the rosy glasses wearing pink hats knew the sox rotation stunk. It isn't a surprise

I would like to at least throw some evidence behind my predictions here

Posted

UN, I believe a sig bet was made, IIRC. October will be an interesting sig for you.

I think where the wagon derailed was basically ignoring what made the sox win in 2013. A s*** ton of that was luck. But you had good chemistry, great starting pitching, and a lot of guys who got on base. Instead, you brought in known cancers, fringe SP's with the hopes (cheerleading anyone) of having them play above realistic expectations, and offensive firepower without any OBP potential. Your pitching has sucked, your offense has stagnated and the chemistry is absent.

We also made a sig bet in the predictions thread about the Yankees being a top-10 offense. They're sitting at fourth, but let's wait until the season's over so we can see if both our sigs have to change.

2013 was a perfect season. Everytime someone made a mistake, some one else picked him up that season. The timing of that team was unbelievable. Many of Farrell's bonehead moves were covered up by his team that season/

For the record ( since you came on board after I said my pieces regarding how the should be built, what they did wrong, and predicted 3-4 place ) I never expected this team to sniff the playoffs this year. I do agree that there is talent on this team. Especially with the position players.

Talent is not enough. I think that along with a lousy pitching staff, this team has too many players of questionable character. Not enough heart.

Overall, this team just does not have enough of anything to be a playoff team regardless of whether the team construction was a good idea / poor execution or not. The entire org fell miserably short of anything that should have been reasonably expected for a team of such resources.

As usual, this is just my opinion. People can say what they want about how Fat Boy and the Dredded One have underperformed. That is a cop out. I'd much rather have Gomes / Nava in left and WMB at 3rd now. I never once thought that those guys were not giving their best.

I can not say with any real certainty or even conviction where the disconnect is. But I say the cream is sour at the top.

I am honestly not seeing the questionable character that you speak of. I think Pal summed it up nicely in his subsequesnt post.
