The sox are gonna have a dilemma soon with there starting pitching prospects, due to the fact that all of their pitching prospects are lefties (Trey Ball, Brian Johnson, Henry Owens, Eduardo Rodriguez). I could see them having at most 3 lefties in their starting rotation. It's going to be interesting to see how ben is gonna handle this.

only one is in the bigs, only two are above single A. These things iron themselves out.

I wouldn't call it a dilemma by any means but at some point you have to at least take a look at Johnson, Owens, and Wright once again. I don't think that Trey Ball is even in the conversation. It is a good problem to have I guess.

Owens just isn't ready. He'd be Bard 2.0 with his control issues.

Might be right although he has been pitching better lately. I don't know how an early move up would affect him. A steady dose of Porcello, and Masterson is only going to last so long. The Red Sox have no issue when it comes to moving players from one position to another. Leon throws harder than Masterson - maybe he could pitch.

I don't buy any BS cover story by a Boston writer who is always willing to carry the water for the FO to get access. Behind the scenes, JH is probably livid with Ben, but we will never know.

Oh, so now the same writers who are always ready with the pitchforks to s*** on the Sox FO "Carry their water" when it's convenient. God you're f***ing annoying.

And lets ignore that Steve Adams writes for MLB Trade Rumors and not a local rag and is based in NYC.

I'm sure that if he quoted Shaunghnessy, it would be considered totally legit.

Looks like the Jays gave up a pretty strong package to get Donaldson. Graveman is pitching well. Lawrie has a 1.8 WAR. Don't know much about the other 2 guys the Jays gave up. I highly doubt Billy B. would have been interested in WMB.

Herald writers carry JH's water now? What? Lauber has been going after the Sox all year.

Yep, pretty much all of them carry their water except for DS. They will go after guys after the FO has parted ways with them. Then the gloves are off. Who is the ultimate source of this information-- Sox FO. Nuf sed. Lauber wasn't there for the conversations.

All I know as fact is that the Jays got a stud like Donaldson and we got a human donut to play third. I am not interested in having Congressional hearings as to who knew what and when did they know it-- that is all meaningless spin and excuses.

The A's got rid of a guy who is a young star on the upswing for very little. Toronto should name a holiday after their GM/

What is the flavor of the koolaid that you are drinking?

I don't think they'll be doing that until they make the playoffs for the first time since 1993.

That's nonsense, I haven't been drinking koolaid at all. I've expressed plenty of unhappiness with Cherington's construction of the 2015 team. But sometimes there are reasonable explanations for why things happened or didn't happen. It's easy to just say 'Ben f***ed up' without even trying to look into it, and just dismissing any explanations that are presented as ********.

The Donaldson part should get the armchair GM's to rest their case.

I always thought the Donaldson thing was basically analogous to Beane owning a $200,000 house and then Anthopolous one day bullshitting on a phone call that he'd pay $500,000 for that house.

Beane: "You'd give them up? You serious?"

AA: "Well, whatever. Not like Donaldson is on the market. That'd be stupid."

Beane: "Sure, yeah. I gotta go." (click!)

Just poking you Bells. I know that you have been very critical. As far as what Ben knew and when, we will never know, and I really don't care. The Jays have Donaldson and we don't. Everything else is BS and excuses.

It's probably as accurate as anything else we have been reading about the acquisition of Donaldson.

Nonsense is his thing.

Obviously no one here knows all the details about the deal.

I do find it interesting that the Greek God Of Suck was able to swing a deal for a player that the Sox needed when the Sox apparently did not know that he was available.

It's particularly curious to me as Beane and the Sox have been partners in many deals over the past several years.

The Sox made a massive over pay for Fungu while a division rival scoops up the best power hitting 3rd baseman in the league for a comparative song.

Maybe it was all just unfortunate timing. Maybe it was someone being negligent.

Really, you think Beane said he was available and the Cherrington just said, "nah"?

Anyone here ever heard of Occam's Razor?

I think what's being overlooked is that the Jays were the team that matched up perfectly with what Beane wanted - a decent third baseman who is a few years younger than Donaldson, an MLB-ready young pitcher, plus other prospects.

Lawrie has a 13.9 WAR in 420 MLB games.

Maybe Beane wanted Bogaerts and E-Rod from us, who knows.

I think your first sentence makes the most sense.

Beane wanted him gone and he saw a chance to get a young replacement, plus other players.

Charrington hasn't made enough mistakes?

We have to make them up now?

No I do not. I don't know what happened. But I am surprised that Ben did not know. If that is the case.

The BL is that other GMs always find a way to get good players and we don't. Said that, BC has to go.

We only know that the Jays got him and we did not. Everything else is speculation, excuses and BS, none of which mean anything to me. I was council to the ERISA Committee responsible for overseeing a large pension plan. We got quarterly reports from the investment managers. The investment managers performing in the top quartile, just told us that. Those in the bottom two quartiles had such hard luck stories -- no one expected this sector to tank or that sector to tank, or the fed raised interest rates, or the bonds were downgraded etc. etc. They were given a three year period to prove themselves and then as fiduciaries the committee had to tell them to stuff all of their hard luck stories and move on. Sorry, but to me all that matters is performance. Process matters, but we wouldn't even bother to review their process if their performance was rock bottom. We reviewed the process of the successful investment managers to see if their good performance would be sustainable as opposed to getting lucky throwing darts at a dart board. That's where I come from-- if your performance stinks, I am not interested in your excuses. If your performance is good, I still may find things wrong with your operation. That is how a fiduciary behaves. Edited by a700hitter
