Lester and Pettitte are phenomenal comps. I think Lester at his best reached a higher peak because his stuff was more dominant. I think Lester has a LOT to prove to beat his consistency, though.

Jeter and Rivera are obvious, so I wont even state their cases. Posada is a borderline HOFer who won 5 titles, 4 as a starting catcher for us. He was 10th all time in HR, 13th all time in RBI, 7th all time in OBP, 7th all time in SLG, and 4th all time in OPS for catchers. He was an all time great catcher who deserves mention for the HOF. He also deserves to have his # retired. He won, he put up the counting stats, he was a leader. His defense was definitely sub par, but the other stuff outweighs that significantly

I didn't say anything about any specific players, let alone Posada. You just had a three-consecutive-post argument with invisible, hypothetical Red Sox fans.

Perhaps your impassioned and completely unprovoked defense of Posada is a sign that deep down, you know he's not really a "borderline" HOFer? Yeah, he's 10th in HR, 13th in RBI, 7th in OBP...for the Yankees. Not for baseball. In baseball, he's a slightly-above-average guy whose stats benefited from durability and longevity.

I'm not sure what else there is to say that I didn't make clear with my first post. I can probably give you at least one person who is above him in every one of those stats who isn't in the HOF (Lance Parrish comes to mind). Posada was good, but so were hundreds of players over the course of history who didn't make the cut. As someone once said, it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Very Good or the Hall of Above Average. By all means, he belongs in the Yankees HOF, the same way Varitek or Wakefield belong in the Red Sox HOF. But none of them belong in the Hall of Fame for baseball. Mariano, yeah. Jeter, yeah. Posada, Williams? No.

YOTN, my retort wasn't aimed at you. I said Posada is a borderline HOF case. But Parrish doesn't sniff Posada's overall value offensively. Parrish's career OPS was nearly 100 points below Jorge's. Parrish was a great defender, though, which closed the WAR gap, but Posada still had him by 3 wins over his career. Bleacher report did a top 10 catchers of all time and had him 10th, right behind another HOF snub in Torre. The only other guy on the list who isn't in the HOF isn't eligible yet (Pudge).

Williams was HOF worthy for 7 seasons, which isn't long enough, IMO to warrant a Hall Plaque. It is long enough, especially with 4 titles, to warrant a number being retired.

Yeah Pettitte shouldn't of had his number retired. Last night game, I didn't get to see but I'm glad I didn't. We won, but that was a s***** game. Nate's really been doing well though.

We're such a streaky team. We got through 10 day offensive runs unseen in these parts in decades then go in the bag for a month. I am hoping our offense is coming back for the stretch run. Time to bring the lumber to the Bean

The Yankees have called up Andrew Bailey.

It’s been a long road back to the big league mound for Bailey, 31, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2013. He’s had good results at Triple-A since joining New York on a minor league deal over the winter, throwing 35 innings of 1.80 ERA ball while putting up 10.8 K/9 against 2.8 BB/9.

Severino looks great for a 21 year old, but he's not an ace yet. He needs to adjust and learn more. Looks like he's learning a little but still needs to refine stuff. He's not pitching all that smart, trying to hit corners on POS hitters who he should attack. I know that is easy to correct though. It will be interesting to see where he slots in a play off rotation.

The Yankees are holding their breath on Nathan Eovaldi‘s elbow, as noted earlier today. Rosenthal notes that the team was aware there was some risk given the relatively young age at which the now-25-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery. Interestingly, he adds that one motivating factor in acquiring Eovaldi was that New York noticed significant splits between the righty’s work with poorly-rated framer Jarrod Saltalamacchia (4.85 ERA last year) and the well-regarded Jeff Mathis (3.58 ERA).
This is very bad news for the Yankees as Eovoldi has been very good for more than a month.

No tear, but any time you hear elbow inflammation, you hold your breath. He has been really good the last 2 months, so this is definitely a loss. Warren is being stretched out to handle the loss. We have enough starters not to need to stretch out Warren, but we don't have a solid 4 for the playoffs without Eovaldi, and Warren definitely was solid in his turn the first half

Drew spit the bit last night. That play changed the whole game. He makes that play and you see Betances in the 8th and Miller in the 9th and we win 3-1
The one where the ball hit him in the face?

He dropped a throw from Headley to second base. The throw was low but it was off the ground...it was a clear muff by Drew.

Oh,I didn't see that. I know Headley hs been having throwing problems. There was a play on a throw at 2nd that local sportscasters were blaming on Headley.

Mark Teixeira Out For Season With Fractured Leg

By Jeff Todd [september 11, 2015 at 3:22pm CDT]

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira will not return this season after tests showed that he has a fracture in his right shin, GM Brian Cashman told reporters including Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News (via Twitter). It’s expected that he’ll require three months to recover, Jack Curry of the YES Network adds on Twitter, meaning that he should be ready to go for the spring.

They will have to rely on Bird the rest of the way.
